Today, we interview Kevin who was diagnosed with ADHD well into adulthood. Kevin explains the challenges he faced as a child and young adult, how medication has helped him, and how he navigates and excels in a world built around the neurotypical brain.
Today, we interview a parent of a special needs child, who is concerned about cutbacks to the special education program. Learning Centers that previously supported special needs children have been eliminated in favor of "inclusion" into general ed classrooms, without the funding of a sufficient amount of para educators to support this initiative. Many special ed parents are very upset about these changes, and worry that their children aren't receiving the education they are entitled to.
Join us again, with Coach Sheri, to explore the new mental health paradigm of our kids, including romanticizing mental illness, diagnosis identity and diagnosis parenting, asking kids to identify themselves in pronouns at very young ages, and revisiting a child-focused society.
"Nurse Nelly" leads us through the highs and the lows of being a high school nurse. With funny stories and also heartbreaking ones, we are able to hear what it is like to be on the frontlines of what our high schoolers are going through. A nurse practitioner who graduated from an Ivy League school on the East Coast, Nurse Nelly practiced in cardiology until she had kids and pursued a career as a high school nurse. The stories she tells give us pause for assessing the well being of our own kids as well as hope for their generation.
