The Irish Government announced that it was dropping plans to introduce hate speech laws, The Bill was passed in the Dail in April 2023 with 110 TDs voting in favour and 14 against.
I believe that now more than ever, is a time where we need such laws in place. Hate speech is used to hurt people, it can incite violence, drive division and people should be held accountable for what they say in these situations.
