Holy Cross Connection, #8: Fr. Patrick Viscuso and John Margetis - An Introduction to Answers to Liturgical Questions

Welcome back to Holy Cross Connections! After a long hiatus (thank you for your patience with us), we could not be more excited to roll out a new episode for you all. This week, we have an episode with Fr. Patrick Viscuso and John Margetis, the esteemed editors of Answers to Liturgical Questions by Iōannēs M. Phountoulēs.

The Answers to Liturgical Questions series has long been recognized as a preeminent resource and gold standard in Orthodox liturgical studies. Until now, this monumental work was only available in modern Greek with numerous quotations taken directly from the primary sources. With the release of the English translation, the series is now accessible to a broader audience seeking reputable, practical, and valuable information on liturgical practices and theology in the Eastern Christian world. The over six hundred answers and questions address an expansive range of topics, including liturgy, canon law, scripture, and theology, through historical context and diverse original source materials. Over almost forty years, Professor Phountoulēs sought to make the development of liturgy and ecclesial life comprehensible to the faithful, clergy, and laity so that they could understand and find spiritual meaning in worship.

We hope you enjoy this conversation between His Grace Bishop Anthony, Fr. Patrick, John, and Nicholas. If you want to hear more about the work of Professor Phountoulēs, join us on Friday, 02/21, at 2:30 pm for an exclusive Answers to Liturgical Questions event with Fr. Patrick and Mr. Margetis. Attend in person at the Maliotis Cultural Center or join via livestream!

You can purchase your set of Answers to Liturgical Questions on our website. Buy the first 5 volumes and automatically receive the 6th for free!

Christ is Risen! Today on Holy Cross Connection, we are delighted to welcome Doctors Ann Mitsakos Bezzerides and Jenny Haddad Mosher to the podcast for a conversation about their brand-new book, Find Your Telos.

Stavros Akrotirianakis, in discussing his new book, Unto the Healing of Soul and Body: Encouragement for Restoration and Reconciliation in a Broken World. Fr. Stavros’ work focuses on the great need for healing in the modern world and how the Church, through the sacrament of Holy Unction, is in a position to offer this healing. Unto the Healing of Soul and Body explores the spiritual richness of the Holy Unction service and how this service offers holistic healing for mind, body, and spirit.
