The era of Zamorins came to a tragic end on April 27, 1766. As his palace was surrounded by the invading army of Hyder Ali, the Zamorin had no option than to commit suicide. He filled explosives in the palace and triggered a blast to put an end to an era of pride and wealth.

Even though the Zamorin of Calicut acquired the status of presiding ruler of Mamangam festival, a group of young warriors refused to accept his supremacy. They were the personal warriors of Princes of Valluvanad. They had vowed to kill the King Zamorin and during each Mamangam festival they unsuccessfully performed a bid on the King's life only to turn martyrs.
