Episode 032: Nick Monaghan - Insect Macro Photographer - HIKE OR DIE Outdoor Adventure Podcast
When Nick Monaghan enters the Australian wilderness, he moves at a different pace to what you and I would. Hiking to him is not about the destination, the distance or vast mountain ranges. It's about discovery in a much smaller world. Nick is a macro-photographer of insects, focused more on what's hiding behind a leaf or within the bark of a tree and it's surprising what he can reveal from within a relatively small area of bushland or rainforest. Nick has had his work published in several books and papers and in this episode we're lucky enough to have him join us and reveal all the secrets and rewards of his work in the tiny world of insects. Episode 031: Paul Barach - Hiking the Shikoku Pilgrimage - HIKE OR DIE Outdoor Adventure Podcast
Paul Barach is able to undertake (and complete) enormous tasks including writing his own book (Fighting Monks and Burning Mountains: Misadventures on a Buddhist Pilgrimage), hiking the PCT and cycling across the United States. The list of Paul's amazing mental and physical feats is long but probably the most unusual to the general hiking community is his completion of the entire 1,200 kilometres (750 mi) journey of the Shikoku Pilgrimage in Japan. Paul reveals to us his passions, what motivates him to start such challenging adventures and his approach to completing them. As with any big adventure, Paul's journeys do not always go smoothly and in this podcast format we were able to explore those in detail with him. Episode 029: Ross McGibbon - Dangerous Snake Photographer - HIKE OR DIE Outdoor Adventure Podcast
Ross McGibbon is without a doubt the most qualified guy I can think of to photograph dangerous and deadly snakes. Yes, he knows his way around a camera, but it's his previous experience as a snake catcher and his love for this reptile that makes him the perfect candidate. In this episode, Ross expresses his appreciation and fascination for snakes and other reptiles. It's hard to talk to him and not take some of that enthusiasm onboard, but on top of that, he removes a lot of false fears associated with snakes and their behaviours and exposes them for the beautiful reptiles that they are. If you can't stand snakes, you need to listen to this episode and if you love snakes, well this one's for you.
