Screener Squad: Havoc
HAVOC MOVIE REVIEW
A good house is built on a solid foundation with primo materials and a foreman that knows that hard work and honest labor with no cut corners will create not just a home for one generation but a domicile for future generations. What if that foreman was a crooked, backstabbing politician whose platform was to clean up all the rot and mold in the foundation of that house. Only, the rot and mold is permeating from his own soul. Written and directed by action super-director Gareth Evans (The Raid), Havoc puts us alongside a crooked homicide cop named Walker (Tom Hardy) who owes the sketchy politician Lawrence Beaumont (Forest Whitaker) a favor. When he calls it in to have Walker save his son from gang war retribution, it’s not going to be an easy task. A major crime family and his cronies have been gunned down during a cocaine and cocktails party and homicide detective Vincent (Timothy Olyphant) is hot on the trail of suspects Charlie (Justin Cornwell) and Mia (Quelin Sepulveda). Charlie, the son in question, and his girlfriend must elude the police and avoid the bullets of the gang with the help of Walker in order to reveal the true mastermind behind the Havoc! Bradly, Nate, and Rae put on their best funny voices to discuss Tom Hardy’s new and familiar acting choices, discuss and compare the writing talents of Mr. Evans juxtaposed against his eye for gore and mayhem, and name drop a couple of other movies that may or may not be much better than this one.

Bradly Martin (Screener Squad, Eye on the Prize, Breakfast Pub)
Bradly Martin was born in the united states and grew up on a healthy diet of sports, films, and books. A rather shy lad who kept to himself, Bradly soon discovered the best way to know a person was to know what people liked. Throughout the years Bradly became a fan of many things and a fanatic of none. From Doctor Dre, to Doctor Strange and the who’s who of Whos. From Playstation to the Dreamcast and Marvel to DC. From LeBron James to James Bond and Lord of the Rings to Lord Palmerston (or Pitt the Elder if you agree with Wade Boggs) and is a huge fan of dad jokes and randomly obscure Simpsons references. Armed with a vast knowledge of comics, films, and pop culture. Bradly traveled the world making friends and sharing takes. As a young man Bradly married the love of his life young and grew older every year with each new child brought into the brood. If trends continue, Scientists predict that .2% of Canada (where Bradly and family reside) will be populated by Bradly’s children by the year 2029. You can hear him leading and listening to his favorite critics on the Screener Squad and Eye on the prize and maybe even provide some comments of his own.

Screener Squad: Andor Season 2 – Part Two
ANDOR SEASON 2 – PART TWO
The One Of Us Rebellion gathers once more under the cover of darkness to dive into the second triptych of episodes for the final season of the prestige Star Wars series. The Empire has begun to upset the Ghorman population, Cassian evaluates the growing totally not French/German mashup resistance, Syril Karn continues to prove himself a complete tool of ISB and Dedra Meero, Bix “adjusts” to her and Cassian’s safehouse on Coruscant, Saw Guerra plans an explosive attack with Wilmon, and Mon Mothma attends another party. Melina, Lewayne, Marco, and T.C. gleefully praise this series for being a political thriller with a level of spycraft espionage that would make John Le Carre proud, while also digging into the deeper, important, and poignant themes of the rise of a rebellion that is destined to topple a fascist empire.

Lewayne White (Screener Squad)
Lewayne’s earliest memories are of watching movies and reading comics, which instilled in him a sense of wonder, a vivid imagination, and unrealistic expectations. It also means he spends a lot of time watching movies, writing scripts for them, and trying to get them made. Highly Suspect Reviews: Thunderbolts*
THUNDERBOLTS* MOVIE REVIEW
The final film of Marvel’s Phase 5 (is anyone keeping track anymore) follows a group of d-listers gathered together reluctantly because of forces arrayed against all of them. No, this isn’t The Suicide Squad, it’s Thunderbolts*. Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) is our central character and first point of contact, as we watch her take on a mission destroying a laboratory, with great ennui, at the behest of CIA director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus). She’s tired of being the new (sorta) Black Widow and taking on these shadow ops and wants to be more public facing. Valentina assures her that if she does just ONE more mission, then they can change her her job duties. Unfortunately for Yelena, Valentina is under impeachment proceedings because word is starting to leak out about her more clandestine and illegal activities and it’s time to burn the proof. Said proof includes Yelena, as she discovers when she shows up to her “last” assignment only to find out it’s a death trap, not only for her, but for John Walker/US Agent (Wyatt Russell), Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), and Ava Starr/Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen). Oh, and also Bob (Lewis Pullman) a seemingly normal guy who no one, included Valentina, is sure how he got in there. After a near-death escape, the team, eventually with the help of Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian (David Harbour) and Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) will have to survive Valentina’s desperate attempts to kill them before she gets busted, and to solve the mystery of Bob. Chris, Wright, Drew, and Frank decide how this places in the quality list of Marvel’s recent films and Chris realizes sometimes you can hate a character so much that it’s impossible to even have any appreciation for a good new take on them.

Christopher Lawrence Cox (Founder, Da Boss, Digital Noise, Highly Suspect Reviews, Screener Squad, Deliberations of Doom)
Born in the wilds of northern Virginia, Chris managed to put all of his survival skills to use and barely escaped with his life to Austin Texas in 1992 where ever since he’s dabbled in everything from plumber’s assistant to sandwich maker, from band to bar and theater management. An opportunity to see theatrical release films for free by becoming a critic on a local public access show called “The Reel Deal” turned into a full-time job when Chris and his friends decided to take it to the internet. They built the site Spill.com, adding multiple podcasts and animated features, to no small amount of success. During this time, a fortuitous friendship sprung up between Chris and young Brian Salisbury, who was also a local film critic, and they merged their forces of will, and their laundry list of ideas for shows, to eventually build this community of critics. While Brian eventually followed his heart to a new family, Chris continues on with a cast of colorful folks from all over the country (and a few others).

Highly Suspect Reviews: The Shrouds
THE SHROUDS MOVIE REVIEW
David Cronenberg does not make normal movies. This is a given. But the question always is going into one, what KIND of abnormal is this gonna be? With The Shrouds, Cronenberg directs one of his most personal films, perhaps a conduit for his grief after the death of his wife. Vincent Cassel plays Karsh, a widower who runs a cemetery with monitoring systems built into the headstones, and accessible through private web links, so that the bereaved can watch the decomposition of their loved ones anytime they want. And yes, while this does seem like a business model with limited range, this is Cronenbergia where you just go with it. It’s been long enough since his wife Becca (Diane Kruger) died that her decay is advanced, but he still tunes in regularly, although he has begun to try dating again. His brother-in-law Maury (Guy Pearce) who seems a little unhinged, but who helped him initially build the gravetech, seems concerned that Kruger might try to get with his wife’s sister and Maury’s ex-wife, Terry (also Diane Kruger). Nonetheless, he’s there to help when Kruger enlists him to try to find out who broke into his cemetery one night and desecrated the technologically enhanced graves. So, while this is an odd premise, just wait. Cronenberg’s gonna Cronenberg. Chris, Wright, and Drew take on The Shrouds and agree while it’s certainly not a Cronenberg all-timer, it’s one of his better recent efforts.

Highly Suspect Reviews: The Legend of Ochi
THE LEGEND OF OCHI MOVIE REVIEW
While A24’s latest release The Legend of Ochi may be a film directed at children, the review Chris, Wright, and Marco did for it is decidedly not (despite Marco’s best efforts to keep it on track). While discussing this little injured cryptid creature the film centers around, it was impossible not to make comparisons to Grogu (Baby Yoda). It was possible to keep from making about fifty dick jokes and overly-sexualizing Baby Grogu, but we took the path less traveled. The story follows Yuri (Helena Zengel) a young girl living in the Carpathians of Transylvania with her monster-hunting dad Maxim (Willem Dafoe). She is taken along with Maxim’s adopted son Petro (a barely utilized Finn Wolfhard) and a group of young boys on her first ‘hunt’. The Ochis, orangutan-esque cryptid creatures in the mountains, are blamed for livestock deaths and more, so Maxim has taken up the mantle of the hunter and destroyer of the beasts. Yuri realizes quickly that these creatures, while odd, are not necessarily her enemy, and she certainly feels some degree of enmity towards her overbearing father, and sense of loss for her missing mother (Emily Watson). When she discovers a baby Ochi injured in one of her father’s traps, she frees it, makes peace with it, and decides the time has come to leave home for good and also return the baby to its family. Certainly, first-time feature director Isaiah’s film seeks to capture of the feel of children’s adventure films of the 80s, our critics felt there wasn’t all that much new or interesting on offer here, aside from music composer David Longstreth’s (from The Dirty Projectors) fantastic score and some reasonably solid, albeit CG altered, puppet work. Which is probably why this review descended into NC-17 silliness. Well, at least we had fun reviewing it.

Highly Suspect Reviews: Sinners
SINNERS MOVIE REVIEW
Up until now, Ryan Coogler has written and directed several successful films based on either a true story, or pre-existing IP, but Sinners marks his first time crafting a completely original work on his own terms. Michael B. Jordan, in a dual role, plays Smoke and Stack, identical twin brothers from the Mississippi Delta who fought in WWI, and made their fortune working for Al Capone. Now they’ve come back home with a bag full of money, a truck full of liquor, and a dream of opening the best juke joint in town. Over the course of a single day, the twins recruit their friends and family to work at the club, and provide the musical entertainment, notably master bluesman Delta Slim (a scene-stealing Delroy Lindo) and their guitar playing cousin Sammie (Miles Caton in a star-making debut). In addition, the twins cross paths with the women they left behind; Stack’s former lover Mary (Hailee Steinfeld) who passes for white, and Stack’s estranged wife Annie (the always reliable Wunmi Mosaku), a healer with knowledge of the supernatural that will come in handy later. Despite the restrictions of the Jim Crow South, and the looming threat of the KKK, Coogler packs that day full of joy, passion, and music as his large ensemble cast weaves their way through a sprawling, Altmanesque exploration of black music and southern culture. But then night falls, and the goddamned vampires show up. Needless to say, our critics were excited to check this one out, but the studio chose not to screen the picture for Austin critics. Nevertheless, we trekked to the theater to see the film for ourselves. Unfortunately, one of our reviewers was attacked by vampires right after the screening, so it’s only not-so-identical non-twins Marco and Nathan on the review. Despite having fewer voices to compete with, our two reviewers couldn’t begin to cover half of what they wanted to talk about regarding Coogler’s jam-packed, genre-twisting film, but trust us, this is one you definitely want to watch!

Screener Squad: The Pitt
THE PITT SERIES REVIEW
Noah Wyle is back in the scrubs with latex gloves covered in blood in this new Max medical drama about a day in the lives of an emergency room crew in a Pittsburgh hospital. The Pitt is a 15 episode series shot dramatically in real time. Each episode is approximately one hour of a shift in which the staff needs to fill a bed, help a patient, release the patient, and repeat as much as possible. Doctor Rob (Noah Wyle) is the veteran doctor, keeping things moving as efficiently as possible with the least amount of mistakes that could cost the least amount of lives also while maintaining his staffs’, and his own, emotional and mental health. Resident doctors include: Dr. Heather Collins (Tracy Ifeachor) who’s getting through morning sickness. Dr. Frank Langdon (Patrick Ball), a handsome & confident doctor with a couple of vices. Dr. Cassie McKay (Fiona Dourif) who has turned her entire life around to help save the lives of others. Dr. Melissa King (Taylor Dearden) whose social awkwardness is both enduring and inspiring. Dr. Trinity Santos (Isa Briones) An over confident and arrogant young student who’s loving the experience of hands on medical oddities. And LOTS more. Bradly, Nathan, and Dogget discuss the earnest and serious tone the show sets like a broken bone that may or may not heal correctly but at least the doctors have done all they can. From TV critics to actual medical staff across the country, The Pitt is being praised for its emotional storytelling and gruesome realism but what say One of Us’s trio of critics? Don’t just let them drag you in with vague platitudes. Take your audio experience further by getting all the gory details in the Spoiler Discussion review for Brown Coat Subscribers and above.

DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN SERIES REVIEW
Daredevil: Born Again has kicked, punched, headbutted, and billy clubbed its way into placing Matt Murdock where he’s always rightfully belonged in the MCU: in more than just a cameo. In his own series and returning with the subtlety of a flaming confession booth and the fury of a thousand Catholic guilt trips, Hell’s Kitchen’s favorite blind ninja-lawyer is back in this dark, brutal, and season four in all but name series. Wilson Fisk is now tightening his vice-grip on the city in his most criminal position yet: Mayor. Matt must confront his broken faith, his fractured alliances, and the terrifying question: Does New York need Daredevil? Jordan, Lewayne, and T.C. gather in The Screener Squad Counsellor’s Chambers to reach a verdict on whether this is a triumphant return for the Man Without Fear, or if Disney has filed the horns off of our crimson crusader.

Jordan Cobb (Screener Squad)
Born with a comic book in one hand, a camera in the other, and in front of the television as WrestleMania played out, Jordan Worth Cobb was thus birthed into this crazy world. A Digital Filmmaking major from the University of Central Arkansas, Jordan has done it all in film from directing, writing, editing, and producing in addition to skills involved in film and TV criticism, journalism, and years of podcasting experience. On any given day, her ADHD riddled brain bounces focus from film to pro wrestling to TV to superheroes to noir to video games to espionage and yes, even to sports. She played little league you know. For more of this eccentric nerd, you can follow her on Twitter here and read her original writings on Deepest Corners of My Notebook.

He lives in the middle of middle America after landing there as a child, and has remained there mainly because he hates packing.

Screener Squad: Invincible Season 3
INVINCIBLE SEASON 3 REVIEW
Over encumbered with the weight of a possible dead villain on his soldiers, a death caused by his own hands, Mark, who set out to be a shining beacon of hope and light to a violent and dark world, promises to never kill again. Can a young man with the powers to punch with the force of a megaton bomb live by such a creed? With Robert Kirkman, creator of The Walking Dead, as mastermind behind the story? I don’t think so. Amazon Prime Video presents Invincible Season 3, with eight episodes spanning across major events from the comics, and minor events that really flesh out the characters we’ve come to know and love. Mark (Steven Yeun) has taken on a young ward, his little half brother Oliver (Christian Convery) and has his heart set on teaching him the sanctity of life. Unfortunately, lil’ Ollie feels that life would be better protected if villains were killed before they could kill people. Mark’s love life has also taken quite the turn when his feelings for Eve (Gillian Jacobs) are suddenly reciprocated. Two superheros falling in love, a tale as old as time. Like many relationships with high stress jobs looming. Mark and his employer Cecil (Walton Goggins) butt heads; Mark’s altruism is tested when he finds out Cecil believes and practices a method in which the ends always justify the means. After losing Omni-Man (J. K. Simmons) Cecil isn’t about to let another Viltrumite go on a rampage. Meanwhile Allen the Alien (Seth Rogan) is putting together a team to try and rebel and stop the Viltrumite empire from conquering more planets. Their next target? Earth. Bradly, Dogget, and Kim discuss what elevates a hero above the rest in current new TV content, and how Invincible has set itself apart from Marvel and DC. Also, they get sassy by discussing all the wonderful and cringe relationships and hookups.

Screener Squad: Devil May Cry
DEVIL MAY CRY SERIES REVIEW
From arcade cabinets to your prefered console system in the living room, Capcom has brought hundreds upon thousands of hours of entertainment with video game classics like Mega Man, Resident Evil, Monster Hunter and the 2000s combo-juggling, demon-themed, first-person, sword-swinging, pistol-pulling, action-adventure, Devil May Cry. 25 years later Netflix is proud to present an eight episode anime adaptation created by Ari Shankar and animation studio Mir. Dante (Johnny Yong Bosch) is a gun for hire caught between a terrorist themed after the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland (Hoon Lee) and a devil hunting organization led by Chairman Baines (Kevin Conroy). Both sides want Dante’s help and an heirloom his mother betrothed to him before her untimely death. This amulet could be the key to piercing the veil between Earth and Hell. Dante must decide whether to team up with a special task force agent of these devil hunters named Mary (Scout Taylor-Compton) or step through the looking glass and discover just how deep the white rabbit’s hole goes. Bradly, Dogget, and Kim show no sympathy for the devil in this fast-paced, well-animated, take down of a capcom adaptation. Will this be the end of the line for Dante and his adventures or does the show earn the right to keep roll’n roll’n roll’n roll’n.

Screener Squad: Make Me Famous
MAKE ME FAMOUS MOVIE REVIEW
Writer/Director Brian Vincent presents the story of an artist community in the East Village of New York in the 1980s. Make Me Famous is about an artist community coming together and supporting each other in the pursuit of notoriety, fame, and the capability to keep buying paint and sharing their work. The primary subject of this community was a starving artist named Edward Brezinski. Peter McGough, James Romberger, Frank Holiday, Claudia Summers, Eric Bogosian, Sur Rodney Sur, and archived footage of Jean Michel Basquiat, are few of the many voices discussing Edward’s pursuit to paint and survive in the heart of the art scene dominated by experts praising Warhol and Haring. Edward’s talents go beyond the brush as he brought other artists into the community and exposed their work to the world. His passions, friendships, loves, and losses are explored in his pursuit of opportunities to create works that may one day make him a legend. Bradly and Frank duo up to discuss their own experiences with the art world, the eighties, documentaries on obscure figures, and the meaning of expression through colours on canvas.

Highly Suspect Reviews: Drop
DROP MOVIE REVIEW
Remember when everything was “Die Hard on a _____”? No? Ok, you may have been too young for that but trust me, it was incessant. With the streaming success of Carry-On when seeing what the plot of Drop was, I couldn’t help but think “Carry-On but in a restaurant”. Violet (Meghann Fahy) is a widow with a young special-needs kid. Since her husband died, she hasn’t gone out much. She runs her therapy for abuse survivors over Zoom calls. But it’s time to get out into the real world again, particularly because the guy she’s been chatting with on an online dating site is Captain McDreamy-pants. She agrees to meet with him on a first date, at a sky-high fancy restaurant while her sister (Violett Beane) babysits for her son. Upon arrival at the date, everything seems perfect. Her date Henry (Brandon Sklenar) is hot, compassionate, interesting, and even has a cool job as a photographer for the city government. What could ruin such a perfect evening? How about her starting to get messages on her phone from a mysterious party who can see and hear everything she does insisting she kills her date or they’ll kill her sister and child? Yeah, that’d do it. Chris, Wright, Kim, and Marco discuss the Hitchcock-esque ambitions of Drop, how they work and don’t, and why Christopher Landon probably took this one on as a last minute work for hire gig.

Highly Suspect Reviews: The Amateur
THE AMATEUR MOVIE REVIEW
Imagine yourself as CIA cryptographer Charlie Heller. You look like Rami Malek, you’re decidedly a huge dork, and somehow you land Sarah (the stunning Rachel Brosnahan) as a wife. If she was on a trip to London and terrorists killed her, and then your bosses at the #1 spy agency in the world seemed like they were doing nothing about it, well, you’d pretty much be forced to go rogue. Revenge is on Charlie’s mind and even though he certainly wasn’t trained on operations, he’s going let his genius IQ do the work for him as he hunts down overseas the four terrorists and kill them one by one. Unfortunately, his CIA bosses have skin in the terrorists game and they have sent their own man to kill Charlie, Henderson (Laurence Fishburne). What you end up with should be a ‘smartest guy in the room’ thriller with a lead that constantly surprises the audience with his inventiveness. But what you get is a film lazily not even bothering to suss out how he achieves what things he does, which except for one deeply implausible kill, are not particularly that interesting. Chris and Frank don’t mind a spy film if it’s silly, but it should at least be fun, which The Amateur decidedly is not. Check out their review here.

Screener Squad: The Luckiest Man in America
THE LUCKIEST MAN IN AMERICA MOVIE REVIEW
In 1984, an unemployed ice cream truck driver named Michael Larson went on the game show Press Your Luck and broke the record for most money won on an American game show. That true story is the basis for The Luckiest Man in America starring Paul Walter Hauser as Larson, and frankly, that’s really all you need to know before watching the movie. While this isn’t a spoiler review, it’s all but impossible to assess the film’s merits without discussing the publicly known facts of Larson’s legendary winning streak, or talking about some of the creative decisions that co-writer/director Samir Oliveros made when adapting this decades old story for the screen. Our reviewers Ryan, Lewayne, and Marco all agree that the less you know, the more likely you’ll enjoy the movie. So maybe watch the movie first, and then come back and listen to us talk about it. We still haven’t been forgiven for accidentally spoiling the ending of Lincoln so we’re not gonna make that mistake again!

Highly Suspect Reviews: Warfare
WARFARE MOVIE REVIEW
While working on his previous film Civil War, Alex Garland got to be friends with the military advisor on it, Ray Mendoza. They decided to write a script together based on an experience Ray had gone through in his experiences in the Iraq War. Initially Garland was going to be sole director but then he announced that his role on Warfare would be more of a supporting role with Mendoza actually helming the film. Certainly, the marketing doesn’t reflect this (Garland puts butts in seats). The film follows a platoon of Navy SEALS on a mission into insurgent territory in 2006. They hole up in an apartment only to find that they are surrounded by a steadily growing group of people who know where they are, and plan to attack. Chris, Wright, Marco, and Ben got to see this projected in IMAX and boy…it is loud. While they all certainly express nothing but respect for the soldiers actually involved (although most chose not to be directly identified, their images during the end credits overwhelmingly blurred) and the incredible toll that this must have taken on all of them, it’s not exactly a pleasant watch.

THE BALLAD OF WALLACE ISLAND MOVIE REVIEW
Imagine you had more money than you knew what to do with that came upon you like unexpected manna from heaven. After you had traveled the world, bought your perfect house on your perfect island, what then? If you’re Charles (Tim Key) you make an offer to your favorite musical duo of all time to come play a private concert just for you. Unfortunately for Herb (Tom Basden) and Nell (Carey Mulligan), they haven’t seen each other in nine years and they left their relationship and musical partnership on not the best of terms. AND Herb didn’t know when he agreed to come out that Nell would be there as well. Their host Charles, as he also is putting them up in his house, is enchanted with them being there. Nothing it seems can quench his excitement, but Herb is a grumpy gus with deep trauma leftover from the former collaboration and in doesn’t help that Nell is newly married and has brought her new husband along for the trip. Chris, Beau, Wright, and Marco take a look at the The Ballad of Wallace Island and reflect on the effectiveness of simple charm when it’s being doled out by a British rural comedy.

Under the severed program, a mental division is created so that while at the office,  an employee has no memory of their outside life and vice-versa. The idea is that top secret information will remain as such and the stress of the grind will be a thing of the past. Helena (Britt Lower) has discovered that her outie is not some kind of 24/7 gardening hobby enthusiast but rather one of the top administrators for the Lumon corporation. Dylan (Zach Cherry) has found out that he has a wife and kids and his outie is a bit of a sad sack with not much going on. Irving (John Turturro) has discovered his innie has been documenting and hiding sketches of weird Lumon behavior. Seth Milchick (Tramell Tillman), the new manager of the floor, must navigate the best way to keep the employees happy but break any rebellious spirit, so they will finish the grand and glorious works of the founder of Lumon, a cultish figure named Keir. Bradly, Neil, and Nate step through the looking glass and discuss the successes of season 2. They hand out a couple of Emmy predictions to the stellar cast while having a very in-depth discussion about the problems with water cooler mystery box shows that juggle too many toasters while standing in your mother’s childhood bathtub. If you think that’s weird, check out Severance on Apple TV+, but wait there’s more! Brown Coat subscribers and higher can access a Season 2 Spoiler review in our forums, use the link right here to access it.

Screener Squad: Ash
ASH MOVIE REVIEW
Steven Wright once said “Right now I am having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before”. Now imagine this hilariously terrifying scenario in space, where no one can hear you reminisce! From musician and director Flying Lotus with a script written by Joni Remmler comes the SXSW Sci-Fi horror thriller sensation ASH. Riya (Eiza González) has no memories of the past couple of days but does remember her and a small crew were sent to a foreign planet to prepare the harsh alien terrain for a new colony of humans. Unable to access the logs and suffering from fuzzy memories of the gory deaths of her colleagues, Riya must put the pieces of her mind back together in order to solve the mystery of her mission’s purpose and find justice for her fallen friends. She meets a resident of the space station named Brion (Aaron Paul) who claims to know her but is also in the dark about what happened to the mission and what’s been unaliving the shipmates. Riya is reluctant to trust this mystery man and to be frank, he isn’t sure he can trust her. Bradly, Jordan, and Drew pierce the heavens to see the face of madness in Flying Lotus’ experimental mind trip with a far out score to accompany the space madness. It’s suspect or be suspected, remember the pain or forget the joy, kill or be killed… for science!

Highly Suspect Reviews: A Working Man
A WORKING MAN REVIEW
Say what you will about this new found collaboration between David Ayer and Jason Statham, but they really know how to turn b-movie action plots into ridiculous and eccentric flicks. Jason Statham stars as Levon Cade who works as a foreman on a construction site run by mild mannered Michael Pena. Pena’s family is a part of the business as well and his daughter Jenny, played by Arianna Rivas, takes a shine to Cade’s “no bullshit” approach to tough situations. As Jenny is about to graduate high school and head off to college, she has one last hurrah with her girlfriends in downtown Chicago. They are stalked by a creepy couple looking to sex traffic young women and Jenny is snatched up. Pena pleads with Statham to save his girl, because of of course…Cade has a certain set of skills that can help save and bring back his daughter…he’s an ex-commando. With a script co-written by Sylvester Stallone & David Ayers, it’s hard to place when would’ve made sense. It reads like a dumb fun action movie from the 80’s, but it’s based on a book written in 2014; you can’t help but wonder why they made any of these weird plot decisions. As Cade tortures, beats, and kills his way through a slew of bad guys to find Jenny, you ultimately become bored with the mundane and uninspired action. You do get some flourishes of quirky weird characters, but it doesn’t add up to a satisfying experience unlike their previous collaboration The Beekeeper. Listen as Wright, Marco, and Ben try to make sense of Nathan’s defense of the movie and understand that they are all working men.

Wright Sulek (The Other Boss, Trash in the Can, Digital Noise, Highly Suspect Reviews, Screener Squad)
Wright hails from the northern suburbs of Dallas, Texas. His passion for filmmaking brought him to Austin to study and make movies. Since then he’s had his hand in acting, writing, and directing his own short films with numerous like-minded film geeks he’s met along his journey. His newest interest has brought him into the podcasting world. He co-hosted a few different movie related podcasts such as ‘And Now This’ and ‘The Match Cut’. He currently co-hosts with longtime friend, Eric Samaniego, where they talk shop about the grimiest, trashiest, lost gems of movies on their show, ‘Trash in the Can’. Wright also guests and hosts reviews on Screener Squad and Highly Suspect Reviews as well as co-hosts Digital Noise with Chris Cox.

Nathan Flynn (Screener Squad, Highly Suspect Reviews)
Nathan Flynn is the resident goofball of One of Us. Net, often found overly caffeinated, slightly stoned, and ready to unleash the hottest takes imaginable. As the resident Letterboxd Lunatic, his movie opinions are as bold as his love for Top Gun: Maverick — a film he considers less of a movie and more of a religion. When he’s not passionately defending his latest cinematic obsession, Nathan manages a comedy club in downtown Austin, where he’s somehow avoided being heckled… so far. Around here, he’s usually the punching bag, but hey, someone’s gotta do it.
