I chatted with Emily Morrison, of Wise Women Witchery, for her podcast the Witch Next Door. We came together to talk about my upcoming class "Making Your Own Magical Herbal Apothecary" for the 4th Annual Season of the Witch Virtual Conference October 6th and 7th. But, in our usual style, we meandered through nourishing topics from herbal jar spell, plant communication, moving beyond the fear of herbs, importance of community, and more.

I'm growing more and more uneasy about using these kinds of word: "invasive", and "alien invaders" when referring to plants. It indicates that these plants are somehow not natural. I explore this topic in this episode.
These are words used to describe the purpose of meditation. In Priestess training we practiced of “empty presence”. These skills are useful for honing intuition, plant communion, and memory recall.

In this episode I speak with author Wendy Makoons Geniusz about Anishinaabe botanical knowledge in terms of how colonization affects the Anishinaabeg botanical teachings. Makoons provides examples of how colonizers usurp indigenous botanical knowledge to continue to fuel their imperialistic efforts, even to current times. Also, learn about efforts currently taking place of indigenous people reclaiming botanical knowledge.

Why am I the “Photographer for the Stars” . . . I mean the JARS? I happened upon an estate sale, went to the basement, and there they were - lonely, dirty, and large jars! And there’s more! Each one had a matching lid. You feel me now? After they sat on the counter drying and of course, sparkling I had the funny idea to give them a photo shoot. Lol! Most herbalists I know would have felt the same about a large-inexpensive-jar-find. Learn some tips on where to find inexpensive jars, how to clean, and ways to store herbs.
