Asha Sunil Kumar is acclaimed as a creative artist whose work reveals the infinite spaces within the traditional form, She bases her dance on the principle that Bharatanatyam is a superbly evocative language,where the dancer who has mastered and internalized the idiom can write her personal dance poetry.
Recipient of numerous awards, she has the honor of being the National Scholar for a continuous period of ten years. In 1983, the title of Srinagar Mani was conferred on Smt. Asha by the Sur Singar Samsad Mumbai. In 1987 Smt. Asha topped Mumbai University in the Bachelor in Fine Arts stream and was the recipient of the ‘Sri A. Nageswara Rao Scholarship’. As a dancer, she has toured extensively all over India having performed at all major cultural venues. Besides participating in several dance ballets, Smt. Asha has proved her mettle as an ace choreographer too. Karnacharitram, Dashavataram, marasambhavam, Mary Magdelene, Rutusamhara, Namami, Meradha, Atmavaloka, Navarasa to Ramarasa, Stree Shakti and Ujjivanam are some of the dance drama presentations which have received critical and popular acclaim wherever performed. Onam Ponn Onam, a special program choreographed by her for Doordarshan was aired consecutively for four years on popular demand.

She decided to provide a good environment for her daughters who had already seen enough darkness and then took a decision to move to Auroville with them and start a new life of healing and growth.
She has worked in many sectors in Auroville as a volunteer, including as a teacher, mentor, administration, waitress, and gatekeeper.
She had the opportunity to explore many new fields with skilled practitioners.
On discovering Watsu, She realized that this was something that is a good fit for her. It came at a time when her daughters were slowly growing up and she missed holding her babies in her arms. She was able to channelize that energy of motherly care towards her clients.
