Abraham call on his elder servant to find a wife for his son. He has him taken oath and promise him that he’ll bring back a wife but not bring Isaac out there to marry.
I did forget to mention one important aspect, which is the fact that Abraham tells his servant that he will send a messenger (angel) ahead of him and he’ll take a wife for his son.
This is pure confidence that Abraham has that God is going to help us servant and lead him to finding a wife who will come back with him that he can bring back for his son! He believes God is going ahead of the servant to prepare and make that message clear. This way the wife and her family will have a soft heart that’s ready when the proposal from the servant comes!
Abraham’s wife Sarah passes away, Abraham approaches the head tights who he has good relations with two acquire property for a burial site.
Another genealogy! Abraham gets word that his brother Nahor has had kids back in Haran/Aram.
I wonder if there’s a reason for this “randomly placed” genealogy!?
Hint: pay attention to the female in the list!
The Binding. This is one of the pivotal stories of faith in the Hebrew Scriptures and the life of Abraham.
God asks Isaac to sacrifice his son. His God, a child murderer; why would He ask such a request especially since he promised Abraham descendants rule his son he was asking him to sacrifice.
To God, intense for him, the sacrifice Isaac, or did he intend to not only test Abraham‘s faith, but also show him the exact opposite of what he asked, showing him that he is not like the other gods and hates human sacrifice and bloodshed.
Something really important to listen and look out for is all the connections that prophetically parallel, the life of Jesus!
Abraham & Abimilech meet again!
When’s the last time a 90 year-old with menopause gave birth. There is only one on record, and God prophesied it in advance.
King Abimilech of Garar (a city-state of the Philistines) takes Sarah as one of his women. God watches over Abraham and Sarah and protects them, though despite a repeated mistake.
After God, saving Lot and his two daughters. They moved from Zoar to the mountains, where they stayed in a cave. What transpired from there?
As unfortunately, this is a story about incest, so many legalistic and religious people may be quick to judge and crucify the two daughters. It’s clear by the story that their actions are not being promoted. However, this shows how we should be slow to judge them. They must’ve been aware of the disgraceful nature of what they were doing, however without their father leading and helping them as the man of the house, he’s partially to blame, especially back in that culture of semi arranged marriages. He failed to lead his family and left his daughters ina vulnerable situation.
although the times are different and a woman would be hard press to fall into a similar situation nowadays it’s clear that all of this resulted in curses and blessings. Blessings because God still loved and cared about them. He saw their faithfulness to listen to him and leave saw them, and they were eventually blessed with children that became great nations. However, with the daughters’s deception of their father, they also become enemies of God‘s people, our curse and are themselves one day taken out.
A Lot had just escaped to Zoar, Abraham wakes up that morning, looking over the planes and sees the region destroyed and smoke rising from the land.
Everything in the story of Abraham and the Dead Sea Valley has been leading up to this point: the tragic end of Sodom and Gomorrah.
When it comes to Sodom and Gomorrah, there’s a lot of historical and archaeological conversations and research surrounding it. Here are some links to further learn and investigate:

In addition, I forgot to add at the very end that some people speculate they have found Lots wife, there’s a small pillar in the shape of a person found in one of the potential sites and some people believe that it’s her. Of course, if she was buried and caught up in the rain of minerals this could be possible. It’s clear nonetheless by scripture that even if not even locked in his daughter‘s experienced, what happened to her that she was still buried in the raining, sulfur and mineral debris falling from the sky if this truly did encapsulate her and was on the outskirts and not burning up instantly, it could actually be the preservation of her.
Just like the story of the garden and the fall, God gave positive instructions and told them everything to do and ask them not to do one thing with that one thing is the very thing that they did. In the same way the only thing that lots wife was asked not to do was turned back , but she did. The act of not listening to God and disobeying his instructions results in our own death.
It wouldn’t be fair, not to address the topic of homosexuality and LGBTQ related matters in relation to talking about the topic of Sodom. Many times both sides are afraid to address the real issues of the passage of Sodom and what really was occurring and taking place, so we dive deep Into a fair examination of what was going on in scripture and what God has to say on the topic.
Here’s a link to the clip that I used at the beginning of the episode:

The two angels/otherwise known as the two men which they were referred to, as by both the people of the city and by lot, we’re staying with a lot at his home, while a disturbing event transpired with the Sodomite community… they showed up to r**e the guests. Thankfully, God has a plan through the two messengers to rescue a lot and his relatives out of Sodom.
Two angels show up to Sodom, which is ironic since there were three men who visited Abraham just the chapter before and they said they were going to Autumn, and two of them went ahead. Ironically, one of the men was God himself, so it seems as if the other two men who went ahead as scouts and messengers were the two angels.
It’s beautiful how a lot takes them in hospitably and is concerned for their safety and well-being!
After seeing off two of the men that were visiting Abraham the third who was God himself stuck around, and Abraham dared to stand up and question God about destroying the city of Sodom. He questioned whether God would destroy righteous people along with evil people. God reassure them that he wouldn’t.
We also discussed the importance of the number 10 and it’s legal significance and being the number of minimum required in order to engage in public and legal affairs. If there weren’t even 10 people it’s essentially saying that there’s not really anyone.
However, Abraham may or may not have still been curious what God would say in his evaluation whether Autumn was or wasn’t worthy of being destroyed. However, he knew that this very well could’ve been the case since he came straight out and asked God why he would do so. At the end, Abraham is silent and seems to trust God and his answer. He’s at least reassured that God wouldn’t destroy those who are truly good in a mass destruction. We also see there’s much similarity in the story of Sodom and the story of Noah. Even using the same language of destruction and wiping away.
This section of the passage contains a few different elements. It begins with the three men looking out over Sodom as Abraham sees them off. Then God has an internal debate with himself whether or not he should tell Abraham what he’s planning on doing. He decides to and reveals that he’s going to visit and check out Sodom because he’s heard That it is an evil and sinful place.
Here is a link to The Move podcast with Justin Khoe:
After finalizing the covenant, Abraham was sitting at his tent door when God appeared to him, but when he looked up, he had three visitors. He prepares food for them and God and one of the visitors confirm that they would come by again in a year when Sarah has her kid. Considering her age Sarah thought this was a joke.
Our Shortest Episode Yet! The end of Genesis 17 covers Abraham’s follow through in performing the sign of the covenant that God had asked him to do to show he and all his house were committed.
Abraham and God are finalizing their covenant. Now God finishes the conversation with him by telling Abraham that he’s going to have a son with his wife Sarah even though they are 100 years and 90 years old respectively.
God is finalizing the covenant with Abraham. The sign is circumcision.
God appears again to Abram. Who wants to fully get the covenant up and running because they had some unsettled business. God re-promises people in land. He also a name change. From now on Abraham is Abraham.
