Collab with Low Ancestry
In this special collaboration between the Low Ancestry and Haunting History podcasts, Karyn Harding of Low Ancestry shares the compelling story of her third-great-granduncle, Edward Hargrave. Born in London's Shoreditch neighborhood, Edward emigrated to the United States and enlisted as a Union soldier during the Civil War. His service led to his capture by Confederate forces, resulting in imprisonment at both Libby Prison in Richmond, Virginia, and the notorious Andersonville Prison in Georgia. These prisons were infamous for their overcrowded and harsh conditions, with Andersonville alone accounting for nearly 13,000 Union soldier deaths due to disease, malnutrition, and exposure. Cat of Haunting History delves into the dark histories and reported hauntings of both Libby and Andersonville prisons. She explores the harrowing experiences of prisoners subjected to overcrowding, disease, and malnutrition, leading to high mortality rates. Cat shares the enduring legends and paranormal activities associated with these sites, where visitors and staff alike have reported unexplained phenomena, suggesting that the spirits of those who suffered may still linger. Can one of them be Karyn's ancestor?

Andrea Perron’s Book, House of Darkness, House of Light: This three-part memoir, written by Andrea Perron, chronicles her family’s real-life experiences living in the haunted Arnold Estate (now known as the Conjuring House). The memoir explores the decade-long haunting in vivid detail, focusing on the paranormal events that the family endured from 1970 to 1980. The book provided key inspiration for The Conjuring movie, although the film takes creative liberties. Perron’s book delves much deeper into the family's encounters with spirits, including her belief that not all the entities were malevolent. Source: AuthorHouse AuthorHouse . The Movie The Conjuring and Its Connection to the Perron Family: The Conjuring (2013), directed by James Wan, was largely based on the Perron family’s experiences as documented by Ed and Lorraine Warren. While the movie heightened certain aspects for dramatic effect, like the intense exorcism scene and the portrayal of Bathsheba Sherman as the main antagonist, it was directly inspired by Andrea Perron’s accounts and the Warrens' investigation of the home. Perron has acknowledged the film captures the emotional essence of their story but maintains that the real events were even more terrifying than what is depicted on screen. True Story of the Haunting In Connecticut
None of the photos on this page belong to Haunting History Podcast. No copyright infringement intended and are only used as enhancements to the story told. At times when reporting facts regarding a true crime, (and photos) multiple sources use the same wording. Every effort is made to avoid any copyright infringements and no single work was intentionally plagiarized when reporting the facts of the crimes. Below is a list of resources used during the research and telling of this story. (partial) "In a Dark Place: The Story of a True Haunting" by Ray Garton, Ed Warren, and Lorraine Warren This book is a primary source for much of the detailed information about the Snedeker haunting. It provides insight into the experiences of the family, as well as the involvement of Ed and Lorraine Warren in the case. "The Haunting in Connecticut" (2009) - Directed by Peter Cornwell The film, while dramatized, is based on the events that the Snedeker family reported. The movie offers a cinematic interpretation of their experiences and the subsequent exorcism. Interviews with Carmen Reed (formerly Snedeker) Carmen has given numerous interviews over the years, discussing her experiences and the impact the haunting had on her family. These interviews often cover her decision to work in the paranormal field and her views on the events depicted in the film. Example: Carmen Reed's interview with The Hartford Courant (2009), where she discussed her experiences and the differences between the real events and the movie adaptation. The New England Society for Psychic Research (NESPR) Founded by Ed and Lorraine Warren, this organization provides details on many of the cases they were involved in, including the Snedeker haunting. It offers additional context on the methods they used in investigations and exorcisms. Documentaries and Paranormal TV Shows Programs like A Haunting (Season 1, Episode 2: "A Haunting in Connecticut") have featured the Snedeker case, providing re-enactments and interviews with those involved. These sources are helpful for understanding the broader public reception and interpretation of the events. Obituaries and Public Records Information on the Snedeker family, such as Philip Snedeker's passing in 2012, can be found in public obituaries and records, which offer details about their lives after the events in Connecticut. "The Demonologist: The Extraordinary Career of Ed and Lorraine Warren" by Gerald Brittle This book provides a comprehensive overview of the Warrens' career, including their approach to cases like the Snedeker haunting. It helps to contextualize their involvement and methodology in such cases. https://www.nbcnews.com/id/wbna29895615 The True Story Of The Terrifying Events Behind 'The Haunting In Connecticut' https://www.terror29.com/blog/haunting-connecticut-real-story https://people.com/celebrity/inside-story-the-real-life-haunting-in-connecticut/ and of course Ancestry.com, MyHeritage.com, Newspaperarchives, FamilySearch.org This presentation is protected by US & International copyright laws. The Isabella Gardner Museum Heist
The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum heist is one of the most infamous and largest art thefts in history. On March 18, 1990 two men dressed as police officers gained entry to the museum by deceiving the security guards, claiming they were responding to a call. Once inside, they overpowered the guards, tying them up, and proceeded to steal 13 works of art. The stolen pieces included works by renowned artists such as Rembrandt, Vermeer, Degas, and Manet, among others. The total value of the stolen artwork is estimated at around $500 million, making it the largest-valued theft of private property on record. Despite extensive investigations by the FBI and multiple leads over the years, none of the art pieces have been recovered, and the case remains unsolved.
