Do Moringa leaves do any good to control hair loss or help in controlling baldness? Are they really good for hair growth and baldness control as is being touted?

This educational video by Dr John Watts, noted dermatologist & trichologist and one of the Best Hair Transplant Surgeons, explores the miracle nature of Moringa leaves and Moringa oil.

Special Features: Moringa

Moringa leaves come with several benefits that are known to boost hair growth and prevent hair fall. “It has both anti-ageing and anti-oxidant properties that are hair-friendly,” says Dr John Watts.

This is not all as the nutrient-rich Moringa is known to be enriched with essential amino acids and contain 7 times more vitamin C than oranges, 4 times more calcium than milk and 4 times beta carotene than carrot.

Endowed with vitamin A and vitamin B, Moringa is known to make hair cells stronger and promote its growth cycle. “It is a rich source of vitamin C that helps in not only countering the damaging effect of free radicals but also repairing the damage,” said Dr John Watts.

The Moringa is also a good source of iron that helps in carrying more oxygen to the hair and zinc that promotes hair growth and controls hair loss.

Moringa Oil: Benefits

Moringa oil is derived from Moringa plant/leaves that contain zinc, silica, vitamin A and antioxidants. “The oil keeps the hair shiny and conditioned,” said Dr John Watts, adding that the zinc, silica and vitamin A prevent clogging of the sebaceous gland and help in the continued production of sebum.

Often one notices how deficiency of vitamin A make the scalp dry but regular use of Moringa oil to massage the scalp and prevent this problem. “Moringa oil can keep the scalp tissue soft,” informed Dr John Watts. He added that vitamin B, C, E and iron-rich Moringa oil also help in maintaining blood circulation to the hair roots.

Moringa Oil: Application

The best way to use Moringa oil is through regular massaging the scalp twice or thrice a week. “Once the massaging is done, one can tie a towel or a cloth on one’s scalp for an hour and then rinse it with shampoo. It will ensure the scalp absorbs the oil,” informed Dr John Watts.

Regular use of Moringa oil also helps keep dandruff away, control split ends and the scalp smooth.

In his concluding note, Dr John Watts, however, mentioned that the use of Moringa oil cannot help one to regain hair at baldness spots. “The only solution for baldness is a hair transplant,” he said while urging the viewers to share the video among their friends for awareness.

Does Hair Gel & Hair Wax Damage Your Hair? | Know from the Best Trichologist in Hyderabad | Dr John Watts

We have become too visually conscious these days sporting trendy beards and uber-cool hairstyles, thanks to the selfie culture popularised by Instagram.

In this craze, many youngsters get tempted to experiment with various types of chemical-laced hair gels and hair wax brands available for men to get that perfect look to click those jaw-dropping selfies.

But does such use of hair gels and hair wax damage your hair? Does it lead to hair fall or eventually lead to baldness?

In this educational video, noted hair transplant expert in Hyderabad Dr John Watts, who has performed over 1800+ hair and beard hair transplants, explores these questions in detail and tries to provide scientific reasoning on their usage and adverse impact.

“The treatment for baldness in a hair transplant. That’s the only option for those who are bald but those who still have hair need to be cautious and resist the temptation of using whatever hair gels or hair wax available in the market,” urges Dr John Watts.

Alcohol-based Hair Gels:

In the video, Dr John Watts mentions that most hair gels available in the market are alcohol-based. Though it does not directly lead to baldness, excessive and unscientific use may indirectly hasten hair fall, resulting in patches of baldness on the scalp.

When it comes to the way one applies hair gel, Dr John Watts says that direct application on the scalp and hair roots can be counterproductive. “There are chances for hair damage if hair gel is directly applied on the scalp. One has to apply them carefully on the hair using two fingers,” he explains.

The adverse impact one can notice through excessive use of hair gels could often lead to drying up of the scalp and build-up of flaky substances, making one’s scalp rough and frizzy hair.

“If the hair gel contains minoxidil as an ingredient, they are good for your hair as they lead to hair growth. However, using purely alcohol-based may lead to hair breakage in course of time,” explains Dr John Watts.

Is Hair Wax Better:

Use of hair wax seems to be comparatively better than hair gel, says Dr John Watts, who is known for his straight and plain talk on matters of hair transplant solutions among his followers.

“If you are determined to use hair gel and hair wax for enhancing your visual aesthetics for an important event or occasion, then opt for the latter as the best possible option. This is because hair wax comes with minimal alcohol percentage and cause less damage to hair in the long run,” says Dr John Watts.

However, hair wax brands are known to be costly when compared to hair gels and their effect does not last long.

Hair Dryer as Alternative:

Instead of hair gels or hair wax, there is one more alternative that one can still use and get more or less the same visual impact using a hairdryer and a comb, points out Dr John Watts while signing off.

“Using a comb and hairdryer combo one can style hair. However, always try to maintain 15–20 cm distance while using a hairdryer,” says Dr John Watts.

Is Whey Protein Good for Hair? | Best Hair Specialist in Hyderabad Explains Why

Is Whey protein supplement good for hair growth? Can it prevent hair loss? Does it do any good to women’s health or does it affect men’s sexual health?

👉Hair Transplant Result — Before & After Photos👈

👉Watch Full Video 👈

👉Get consultation with Dr John Watts — Hair Transplant Surgeon👈

These are some common queries encountered by doctors, nutritionists, gym trainers and hair experts’ hair experts from different people ranging from health fanatics and hair loss patients.

In this educational video, well-known trichologist and dermatologist Dr John Watts — one of the Best Hair Transplant Surgeons in Hyderabad — simplifies this confusion and tells viewers what they need to know about Whey protein.

General Advisory:

Before going into the details, Dr John Watts cautions viewers not to take nutritious supplement consumption lightly as doing it without consulting either a nutritionist or an expert would be counterproductive.

“If you have health goals, that’s good. But do not consume supplements without first consulting your nutritionist or your doctor,” says Dr John, who has performed over 1900+ hair and beard hair transplants successfully.

Who needs Whey Protein?

In general, bodybuilders need supplements to grow lean muscles or those looking for weight gain. But it is also regarded as good for hair growth as this protein helps prevent hair loss.

“Whey protein comes from milk. It is extracted from the watery liquid found in the milk. Whey protein is of three types,” adds Dr John Watts.

Whey Protein: Types

The three different types of Whey Protein are:

Whey Protein Concentrate

Whey Protein Isolate and

Whey Protein Hydrolysate

Of the three, Protein Hydrolysate is regarded as the best one with 95% protein content while Whey Protein Concentrate is known to have the least protein content ranging from 58 to 89 per cent.

“In research studies, Whey protein has not been linked to hair loss in any way yet. It is just a myth,” he says, adding Whey protein to be good for hair.

Skin Elasticity

Whey protein may make your skin get that shine and help keep it young and strong as collagen, the structural tissue that gives skin elasticity, may get a boost with a protein supplement. The scalp skin too would benefit from making it healthy and ensuring blood supply to hair follicles.

Whey Protein Overuse: Disadvantages:

While it has several benefits, excessive intake of Whey Protein above the Recommended Daily Allowances (RDAs) of protein may backfire.

“Two servings of Whey Proteins (which can be mixed with water or milk) is generally considered normal but taking it above the requirements may bring a lot of disadvantages,” warns Dr John Watts.

That’s why he insists on nutritionist advice for fixing the quantity of Whey protein that one may take based on one’s body weight.

The following are the adverse side-effects one may experience if one consumes excess Whey protein:

“It is ok for other health goals but not exclusively for hair,” he says, while urging the viewers to share the video among their friends for awareness and leave their valuable feedback in the comments section.

Can Adivasi Hair Oil Prevent Baldness & Regrow Hair? | Best Trichologist Explains

Can you get dense and long hair on bald spots using Adivasi or tribal hair oil? In this educational video, Dr John Watts — noted dermatologist & trichologist and one of the Best Hair Transplant Surgeons — demystifies Adivasi hair oil for the viewers of his popular YouTube channel.

He has successfully performed over 1900+ hair transplants.

Special Features: Adivasi Oil

In his introductory note, Dr John Watts tells the viewers that castor oil is the main ingredient in what is usually referred to as Adivasi or tribal hair oil that has been traditionally used in the tribal region. So, what’s castor oil so special? Here are its main features:

Healing Properties:

The main ingredient found in castor oil is Ricinoleic acid, which is known to have healing properties that help in hair regrowth. “The oil is usually sticky and helps in clearing the toxin deposit on the scalp,” said Dr John Watts.

Castor oil has both antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It also helps in unclogging clogged pores on the scalp

Omega Fatty Acid:

Castor oil also contains Omega Fatty Acid that helps in hair regrowth. The Omega Fatty Acid also repairs hair cells, repairs it, provides nourishment and makes the hair thick & strong.

Soft & Shiny:

Castor oil helps in making the hair soft and shiny as the oil has the unique ability to absorb moisture from the air. “This helps in coating the hair and it becomes soft and shiny,” explained Dr John.

How to use Castor Oil?

There are two ways of using castor oil. One is plain oil that can be used for gentle massaging. The second way is to use it by adding further elements to castor oil that can be homemade.

“Take two spoonfuls of castor oil and add an egg yolk to it. Add a cup of honey and one spoonful of water. Mix them well and apply them to the hair and scalp. Keep it on the scalp for 30–40 minutes and cover your scalp with a shower cap,” informed Dr John Watts.

After the waiting period, he tells the viewers that the scalp has to be rinsed with a proper shampoo. “Use this mix once a week and it would make your hair healthy,” said Dr John.

This oil mix nourishes the hair properly as it contains vitamin A & D along with pantothenic acid that helps the hair to become shiny and soft.

Which Castor Oil to Buy?

For best results, Dr John Watts suggests the viewers buy cold-pressed castor oil and not go for regular oil that is processed and produced using high temperatures. “Always prefer unrefined castor oil that is cold-pressed as nutrients are destroyed in castor oil prepared using high temperature,” informed Dr John Watts.

Can Washing Hair with Hot Water Cause Baldness? | Dr. John Watts Explains

#AskDrJohnWatts

Many viewers following Dr John Watts’ popular YouTube channel videos leave several queries related to hair transplant, hair growth and hair loss for him to answer. While it is not possible to answer all the questions, Dr John Watts picks up a few questions in this educational video.

With over 1900+ hair transplants, Dr John Watts is a noted trichologist, dermatologist and one of the top hair transplant experts in Hyderabad known for his straight talk on different aspects of hair transplants.

PR Rooster asks: I want to use hair fibre, but can it be the cause of hair fall or damage my existing hair? Are there any side effects to its use?

In general, the use of hair fibre is meant for those who have thinning hair. The hair fibre gives perfect cover for those with thinning hair but is not known to leave any adverse side effects. “Allergic reactions to using of the hair fibre is very rare. Generally, they are perfectly safe,” informs Dr John.

However, Dr John Watts urges hair fibre users to follow certain safety cautions. “If one has used hair fibre all the day, it is always better to wash it in the evening as unwashed hair fibre can block the pores of the scalp and affect the blood supply. They also accumulate the oil,” says Dr John Watts.

Naveen G asks: Sir, in one video you said we must consume eggs for hair growth, while in another video you said one should avoid eggs. Which is correct?

In his response, Dr John Watts reiterates that eggs are good sources of protein and protein is good for hair. “What I might have said is that one must avoid eating raw eggs,” clarifies Dr John.

Known to be a fad among bodybuilders, Dr John Watts informed the viewers that raw egg whites contain a protein called avidin that is regarded harmful for hair growth. “You can consume boiled eggs or egg curries, but try to avoid eating raw eggs,” he informs.

PMD V asks: Sir, will there be any difference to my hair if I use hot water using a heater or geyser?

Whether the hot water is from a geyser or a heater will not have any kind of impact on the hair “However, ensure that one should not use very hot water on the scalp. Use only lukewarm water for a head bath,” informs Dr John.

Shinchan asks: Sir, I am using Minoxidil lotion. While taking a head bath I get a rough feel to my hair. Why is it so?

Minoxidil lotion/oil is good for hair growth. It ensures adequate blood supply to the scalp and helps in the growth of baby hair. However, while taking a head bath, one may get a rough feel to one’s hair.

“This is perfectly normal,” clarifies Dr John.

Nagadurgamma K asks: Sir, Can I do heavy workouts in the gym while using Minoxidil? Can workouts lead to hair fall?

There is absolutely no connection between hair loss and one’s workout in a gym. “If one is noticing hair fall after joining a gym, one must consult a dermatologist. There could be other reasons but gym training has nothing to do with one’s hair fall,” informs Dr John.

With regard to the use of Minoxidil, he added that while using it one may engage in heavy physical exercise. There is no bar.

What is the best shampoo for hair loss care? Mild Vs Harsh Shampoo | Dr John Watts

#AskDrJohnWatts

The market is flooded with dozens of hair shampoo brands but there is a lot of misconception about the right hair shampoo one should be using.

Should one use mild shampoo over chemical-laced shampoos that use some catchy brand names and is widely advertised by celebrities that often claim to control hair fall or promote hair growth?

These are some questions that noted dermatologist & trichologist and one of the Best Hair Transplant Surgeons in Hyderabad Dr John Watts demystifies in this educational video for the viewers of his popular YouTube Channel.

Mild Vs Harsh Shampoo:

He makes it a point to differentiate the milder shampoos from the harsh shampoos available in the market based on the ingredients they contain. Hair shampoos that do not cause irritation or damage to the scalp are classified as mild shampoos as the ingredients leave a minimal adverse effect.

“In particular, people buying shampoos should read the label carefully and watch out for ingredients containing sodium Laureth sulphate, sodium laurel sulphate, or sodium lauryl sulphate and paraben. They should avoid such shampoos with a harsh surfactant,” he informs.

The harsh shampoos can be easily identified with the presence of the above chemical ingredients but besides them, they may also contain strong smells and strong colouring agents.

Mild Shampoo: Benefits

The mild shampoo uses hair-friendly ingredients that not only provide cleansing for the hair but also cause the least irritation and damage to the scalp in the long run.

“The purpose of a shampoo is cleansing and the mild shampoo does a good job on this. People should not believe if any shampoo claims that it can control hair fall or promote hair growth,” advises Dr John Watts, while batting for an only mild shampoo.

Unlike mild shampoo, harsh shampoo can drain away excess oil from the scalp and lead to itching. Gradually, such itching and scratching can lead to skin erosion and the protective skin barrier on the scalp can break.

This can provide easy access for bacterial attacks by the likes of staphylococcus bacteria and damage the hair, leading to hair fall.

While advising herbal-based Volumizing Shampoo brands that use Acacia concinna or Soapnut or Reetha or Shikakai or kunkudukai as examples of mild shampoos, Dr John Watts, however, has a word of caution.

“You cannot use mild shampoos in excess either. The volumizing shampoos add volume to the hair and are safer comparatively but overuse can drain excess oil and damage hair cuticle,” warns Dr John Watts, while recommending head wash with mild shampoo for not more than thrice a week.

Diluting Harsh Shampoos:

For those who prefer to use harsh shampoo brands or are unable to dump their stock of harsh shampoos, Dr John Watts urges them to use a very small quantity of such shampoo by diluting them with water.

“It is better if one immediately washes away such shampoo on the scalp within 20–25 seconds of application on the scalp,” he suggests, while urging the viewers to share the video among their friends for awareness.

Can Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) have any connection with baldness or lead to hair fall in any way? Can someone battling an STD get a hair transplant done? Will there be any adverse consequences?

These are some questions that Dr John Watts — noted trichologist, dermatologist and beard/hair transplant in Hyderabad — tries to enlighten the viewers of his popular YouTube Channel in this educational video.

Sexually Transmitted Diseases: Causes & Symptoms

In his introductory talk on the subject, Dr John Watts first explains how one may contract STDs. “When one engages in unprotected sexual activity, there are chances of contracting STDs,” says Dr John, while blaming both viruses and bacteria for the same.

The notable bacteria transmitted STDs include Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and Syphilis, while viral STDs include HIV, genital herpes, genital warts (HPV), and hepatitis B.

The symptoms of STDs range from burning sensation while passing urine, genital discharge, testicular pain and lower abdominal pain.

“The best way to prevent STDs is to have protective sex. It is always best if one gets their condition diagnosed on time as symptoms of STDs often overlap with urinary tract infection,” informs Dr John Watts.

STDs & Hair Loss:

Some Sexually Transmitted Diseases like Syphilis and Chlamydia are known to lead to hair loss but not baldness. “STDs cannot be said to be responsible for baldness but they can trigger hair loss condition or hair thinning,” says Dr John Watts.

Even in the case of patients who may be taking drugs for the treatment of HIV, Dr John Watts says that there could be drugs induced hair loss in some patients.

Conclusion:

If one has baldness and is battling STDs at the same time, is it reasonable to get a hair transplant procedure? If there is such a scenario, Dr John Watts advises in the negative.

“Your life is more important than battling baldness. One’s priority and focus should be on getting the STD treated. For baldness, though hair transplant procedure is an alternative solution, it is still a secondary issue,” advises Dr John Watts, while urging the viewers to share the video for awareness among people.

When Can You Wear Helmets or Caps After a Hair Transplant?

#AskDrJohnWatts

When is the ideal time to wear a helmet or a cap after a hair transplant? Can wearing caps or helmets damage the grafts if it is done soon after the hair transplant procedure?

How can one safely wear a helmet or a cap after the hair transplant? Are there any specific techniques to do so? Will it affect the hair transplant results?

In this educational video, Dr John Watts — a noted dermatologist, trichologist and hair transplant surgeon in Hyderabad — demystifies everything about wearing helmets or caps after a hair transplant. He has successfully performed over 1900+ hair transplant procedures so far.

Introduction:

Immediately a day or two after the hair transplant procedure, one can safely wear the surgical cap as this is what is normally advised to the patients. There is no problem if one is wearing the prescribed surgical cap after a hair transplant.

“We have to follow the safety rules while wearing different types of caps and helmets after a hair transplant as unnecessary friction can damage the hair grafts and the hair transplant results may fail,” warned Dr John Watts.

Helmets, Surgical Caps & Normal Caps: How to wear

When it comes to wearing helmets, surgical caps and normal caps safely, there are techniques and one has to wait for the appropriate time.

Surgical cap:

For a surgical cap, one can wear it immediately after a day or two of the hair transplant procedure but one has to ensure that before wearing it first stretch and loosen the cap.

“Widen it long enough to ensure it can easily fit your scalp. Start from the back of the scalp and gently wrap it before slowly bringing it to cover your front of the scalp,” explained Dr John Watts in the demonstration video.

While removing the surgical cap, one has to press the front of the surgical cap with three fingers and gently remove it from the back side after widening it loose enough for easy removal.

Helmet:

The problem with the helmet is that it has a hard thermocol sheet inside the helmet that can damage the hair grafts if they come in contact with them. “The ideal time to wear a helmet after a hair transplant is only after 20–30 days and not before that,” explained Dr John Watts.

He explained that one has to be very careful while wearing helmets and should ensure that the grafts are not damaged and this is possible only after 20–30 days. This is why it is not recommended before 20–30 days of the transplant. “One can cover the scalp with a bandana or a white cloth and wear a helmet after that,” he said.

Workman’s Helmet:

There is another type of helmet known as the ‘Workman’s Helmet’, which is normally worn by construction workers and engineers at construction sites. “These helmets have hollow space at the top which ensures the hair grafts cannot come in contact with its hard surface,” explained Dr John Watts.

However, even a workman’s helmet can be worn only after a week of the hair transplant procedure and not before that.

Baseball Cap:

They also have hollow space at the top and would ensure that their hard surface does not easily come in contact with the hair grafts. “Such caps can also be worn after 7 days and not before that,” explained Dr John.

In this educational video, noted dermatologist & trichologist and one of the Best Hair Transplant Surgeons in Hyderabad Dr John Watts answers select shortlisted questions of viewers related to hair growth, hair hall and hair transplant.

Bunny Sujith asks: “Many a time, I forget to use Minoxidil due to several reasons. I wanted to know for how many days we can skip using it without causing any loss of hair?

This is a regular problem faced by many. Our work and forgetfulness make us skip using Minoxidil. Sometimes patients misplace the bottle. However, Dr John Watts insists that patients must make it a point to use the Minoxidil solution without fail and with any time gap. “Even if one skips using it for 7–10 days a stretch, the results would be drastically reduced,” he warned.

Unique asks: “Post hair transplant procedure for how many days we are supposed to cover the hair with a cap?

In his response, Dr John Watts tells Unique that they generally ask the patient to wear a protective cap for 5–10 days after the transplant procedure. “You can extend it to one month or if you like and okay, you can wear a cap whenever you are travelling to a dusty place as a precaution,” he clarified.

Anonymous asks: “I have learnt that doing Yoga asanas, especially Shirshasana would increase blood supply to the upper region of the head/scalp and control hair loss and promote hair growth. I want to know if it can also help DHT-influenced regions to grow hair?

In his response, Dr John Watts acknowledges the beneficial role Shirshasana can play to improve and increase the blood supply to the scalp and promote hair growth. However, he said that the DHT influenced region would remain immune to any positive changes with Shirshasana. “There won’t be any hair growth in DHT influenced bald region of the scalp as it cannot act as a DHT blocker,” he explained.

Why Jeff Bezos Never Got a Hair Transplant | Dr. John Watts Explains

#AskDrJohnWatts

The Amazon.com founder and the world’s richest man Jeff Bezos remains a case study for many curious hair transplant patients as to why he never thought of getting a hair transplant.

Surely, he could have afforded it but why is the question that keeps bogging many hair transplant patients. What further drives this curiosity is that the old photographs and interviews of Jeff Bezos during the early days of Amazon show him with healthy growing hair.

But, the present photos of Jeff Bezos are a sight of contrast as he sports a shaved head and still manages to look handsome! In this informative video, Dr John Watts — a noted dermatologist, trichologist and hair transplant surgeon in Hyderabad — examines if Jeff Bezos could undergo a hair transplant or had other options to explore at one point in time.

“If you closely look at Jeff Bezos’s earlier photos, you can notice a gradual baldness setting in with the frontline hair receding and sides still having good hair,” informed Dr John Watts.

Unexplored Options:

Most possibly, Jeff Bezos could have the opportunity to use two options but he might rather choose not to, implies Dr John Watts.

“The first option was to get a hair patch or a hair extension, while the second option involved using a combination of a hair patch with a hair transplant,” informed Dr John Watts.

However, what we know is that Amazon founder Jeff Bezos decided otherwise and never choose an option even as this baldness became more advanced.

“There could be two possible reasons why he may not have opted for any of the two options. Probably, he ran out of non-DHT influenced healthy donor hair to undergo a hair transplant,” informed Dr John.

The other reason, opined Dr John, could be that he opted out of having a hair patch as they require maintenance monthly or once in two months and a busy man like him may not have that sort of time.

“Probably, his consultant told him about this regular maintenance issue required for hair patch,” he added.

Without healthy non-DHT influenced donor hair on the scalp, body or beard, no hair transplant can be successful or undertaken. In such a scenario, the only option left is a hair patch or hair extension but needs regular upkeep.

Conclusion:

Even without a hair transplant, Jeff Bezos still manages to look awesome. “This is the art we need to learn from Jeff Bezos — of carrying our looks in style whether it is a shaved head or otherwise. He should feel good,” advised Dr John Watts, while urging his fans to share the video among their friends for awareness.

Why Combining Minoxidil with Clobetasol Propionate for Hair Growth is Risky?

In this educational video, noted dermatologist & trichologist and one of the Best Hair Transplant Surgeons in Hyderabad Dr John Watts answers select shortlisted questions of viewers related to hair growth, hair hall and hair transplant.

Anonymous asks: “Can I use Minoxidil in combination with Clobetasol propionate for hair growth?”

In his response, Dr John Watts termed it a dangerous experiment as Clobetasol propionate is a steroid that has the potential to bring adverse consequences.

“There would be temporary hair growth but it will come at a severe cost,” explained Dr John, while advising the viewers to shun the use of steroids for hair growth.

The likely side-effects could be severe skin damage, lowering of immunity levels in the affected region, formation of pustules and glaucoma.

T Srinivas Rao asks: “Can I use hair building fibre three months after hair transplant?”

In his response, Dr John Watts said that the use of hair building fibre is okay if one waits at least 25–30 days after a hair transplant.

“Yes, you can use it after three months as after 25–30 days, the stem cells of the hair grafts take root and start growing and they won’t be affected if hair building fibre is used,” he said.

Dhanraj Goud Dhanu asks: “I underwent a hair transplant procedure on the front but after six months I noticed baldness at the centre/crown region. My donor region too has a hair thinning problem now. What should I do now?”

In his response, Dr John Watts said that it is a common situation facing many hair transplant patients if they do not follow the proper protocol or enough steps are not taken to save the existing hair. There are other reasons too for this problem.

“If one is predisposed to genetic baldness and does not take proper medication to save existing hair on the scalp on the crown region, such a scenario is not ruled out for many hair transplant patients,” said Dr John Watts.

In this case, since the patient has run out of donor hair for a second hair transplant, Dr John advised the use of body hair transplant where hair grafts from the beard, upper abdomen or upper back are used as hair grafts for transplant.

K Raju asks: “I am a diabetic. Can I undergo a hair transplant? Will it be safe? Will it affect results?”

In his response, Dr John Watts said that diabetic patients can also undergo hair transplant procedures provided they follow the proper protocol. “The first precondition is to keep your blood sugar level under control by following proper diet and medicines,” said Dr John.

However, there is a catch as even after following all the safety protocols, diabetic patients undergoing hair transplant procedures may witness 10–15% less results when compared with normal people.

Hair Transplant Podcast - HAIR TALK with Dr.John Watts Hair Transplant Surgeon and Dermatologist
Why do celebrities not show an empty donor patch after graft extraction? Do ordinary people undergo a different type of hair transplant?

#AskDrJohnWatts

Patients often have numerous questions about baldness, hair grafts, hair loss, hairlines, hair transplant procedures, post-transplant care, and medical treatments for hair loss. This is especially true for followers of Dr. John Watts, who frequently inundate his popular channel with queries on these hair-related topics.

In this educational video, Dr. John Watts addresses whether the extraction of donor hair grafts from the back of the scalp leaves an empty patch after a hair transplant procedure. Is it true, or is there a technique that ensures no visible change in the donor region even after the extraction of hair grafts? Why do celebrities not show an empty donor patch after graft extraction? Do ordinary people undergo a different type of hair transplant?

Dr. John Watts—a renowned dermatologist, trichologist, and one of Hyderabad's top hair transplant surgeons—provides detailed answers and insights into these questions.

YOHIdac 5951 asks: "Sir, I am curious to know if the extraction of donor hair grafts from the back of the scalp creates an empty patch after a hair transplant procedure. You mentioned in one of your earlier videos that donor hair does not grow back after hair grafts are harvested. Why do celebrities not look different even after donor hair grafts are extracted from the back of the scalp? Did I misunderstand your point? Please explain."

In hair transplant procedures, donor hair grafts are typically extracted from the back of the scalp. This area is preferred because the hair here is resistant to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone linked to genetic baldness. DHT-resistant hair from the donor site ensures it will continue to grow even after being transplanted to areas affected by hair loss.

Dr. Watts explains that patients should not be concerned about the appearance of empty patches following donor hair extraction. While the extraction process does create a temporary gap in the donor area, the technique used is designed to minimize noticeable effects.

Hair transplant surgeons do not extract grafts from a single location. Instead, they collect the grafts randomly across the donor site. Typically, about 25-30 donor hair grafts are extracted from every 100 available grafts in the donor region. This randomized approach ensures that the surrounding hair remains dense enough to cover any gaps created by the extraction.

Addressing YOHIdac’s concern that extraction might leave noticeable empty patches, Dr. Watts reassures that this is unlikely due to the strategic extraction process. By removing grafts from multiple locations rather than concentrating on one spot, the hair in the donor area naturally regrows and covers the previously extracted sites, maintaining a uniform appearance.

Conclusion: The process of extracting donor hair grafts for hair transplants is carefully managed to prevent visible gaps in the donor area. The randomized extraction technique and the natural regrowth of hair ensure that the donor site remains aesthetically pleasing and that patients do not need to worry about unsightly patches. Proper planning and technique make hair transplantation a reliable solution for restoring hair without compromising the appearance of the donor area.

Can one buy hair fiber from the market and use it on their own? What precautions need to be taken after its use? Is it a permanent or temporary solution? How does it help?

In this educational video, Dr. John Watts sheds light on the pros and cons of using thick hair fiber treatment and whether one needs to consult a hair transplant surgeon for its use.

Can one buy hair fiber from the market and use it on their own? What precautions need to be taken after its use? Is it a permanent or temporary solution? How does it help?

Dr. John Watts — a renowned dermatologist, trichologist, and one of Hyderabad’s top hair transplant surgeons — provides detailed answers and insights into these questions.

Amir Khan Pathan asks: “Sir, I want to know if thick hair fibre treatment is available at your hospital. I want to opt for this.”

Hair building fibers, or hair fibres, are an easy alternative for those struggling with hair thinning issues. They consist of powder-like, lightweight particles designed to stick to existing hair strands, creating the appearance of fuller, thicker hair.

In this educational video, Dr. John Watts explains the pros and cons of hair fibers and how they can be used, including their use for different types of individuals.

Responding to a query from Amir Khan Pathan, Dr. Watts mentioned that one does not need to visit a hair transplant center to use hair fiber treatment, as it can be applied by the user at home. These products, which are also known as hair fibers, hair building fibers, or thick hair fibers, can be ordered online and are available in various colors, including dark black, light gray, and dark brown.

Dr. Watts explained that hair fiber treatment is beneficial for those experiencing hair thinning or those hesitant to undergo a hair transplant procedure. It is also suitable for individuals who did not achieve the desired results from a hair transplant or those who do not have a hair fall issue but want to add thickness to their hair or address early-stage baldness.

Made from natural or synthetic materials, these fibers cling to hair using static electricity. They blend seamlessly to cover thinning areas, add volume, and absorb light, preventing bald spots on the scalp from shining. In other words, the light is absorbed effectively, reducing the visibility of bald spots.

However, these fibers provide temporary results and need to be washed out every evening. They can be used as needed to achieve a fuller hair appearance. For permanent results, Dr. Watts advised Amir Khan to consider a hair transplant procedure after consulting with a hair transplant surgeon to assess the extent of hair loss.

Are hair grafts implanted only in the gaps of the scalp without touching the existing baby hair? Is this true? What is the scientific rationale behind this approach?

In this educational video, Dr. John Watts explains whether baby hair growing on the scalp is removed and replaced with DHT-free hair grafts during a hair transplant procedure. Are hair grafts implanted only in the gaps of the scalp without touching the existing baby hair? Is this true? What is the scientific rationale behind this approach?

Dr. John Watts — a renowned dermatologist, trichologist, and one of Hyderabad’s top hair transplant surgeons — provides detailed answers and insights on these questions.

SS Uday Bharghav asks: “Sir, I want to know if baby hair growing on the scalp are removed and replaced with DHT free hair grafts during a hair transplant procedure? Please explain.”

Baby hair, also known as vellus hair, often appears around the edges of bald spots on the scalp. This type of hair is usually in different stages of the miniaturization process, which can precede noticeable baldness. Baby hair tends to be finer and shorter than regular hair, and its presence can be a sign of ongoing hair loss.

In this educational video, Dr. John Watts addresses whether it is feasible to ask a hair transplant surgeon to replace miniaturized baby hair with DHT-free hair grafts during a hair transplant procedure. The short answer is that this is not typically done. Dr. Watts explains that hair transplant surgeons generally do not encourage such requests. The reason is that existing baby hair, even though it is thin and short, contributes to the overall density and appearance of the hair on the scalp after a hair transplant procedure.

Dr. Watts clarifies that while baby hair might seem less robust, it still holds potential for growth, especially when treated with hair medication post-transplant to preserve the existing hair. The surgeon’s focus during the procedure is primarily on filling in areas where there is a complete lack of hair, rather than replacing existing baby hair. This approach ensures that the new DHT-free hair grafts are strategically placed to fill gaps and create a fuller appearance.

After the transplant, the implanted DHT-free hair grafts will eventually grow into longer, stronger hair. This new hair can be cut, trimmed, or styled according to personal preference. Dr. Watts emphasizes that the existing baby hair, when combined with the newly transplanted grafts, helps in achieving a natural and dense look. The combination of new grafts and existing hair contributes to a more seamless and aesthetically pleasing result.

Conclusion

In summary, while it might be tempting to replace miniaturized baby hair with DHT-free grafts, it is not a standard practice in hair transplant procedures. Baby hair plays a role in maintaining the overall density and natural appearance of the scalp. Hair transplant surgeons focus on addressing areas of complete hair loss and leave existing baby hair as is. Post-transplant care and medication can help the existing baby hair grow stronger, and the new grafts will eventually blend in to provide a fuller look.

In this educational video, Dr. John Watts explains why the use of heavy medication after surgery may temporarily lead to hair fall and what needs to be done to address this issue. Should one use hair medication immediately, or wait until the underlying problem is completely treated?

Dr. John Watts — a renowned dermatologist, trichologist, and one of Hyderabad’s top hair transplant surgeons — provides detailed answers and insights on this question.

DGVG 6909 asks: “Sir, I am 31 years old. One year ago, I underwent a neuro procedure to remove spinal fluid to cure my headache. After that, I was put on a heavy dose of medication. This has increased my hair fall. Recently, my hair fall increased again, and I am experiencing the same problems: headache, itching, and a burning sensation. Please explain.”

Sometimes, the accumulation of intracranial fluid can lead to headaches. Usually, this fluid needs to be properly drained. If not, it can increase intracranial pressure and cause headaches. A neurological procedure ensures this fluid is removed to solve the problem. However, such procedures may require the use of heavy medication, which can directly induce hair fall.

In this educational video, Dr. John Watts explains the importance of prioritizing the treatment of the underlying issue in such scenarios.

While responding to the queries raised by DGVG, he advises that it’s generally not advisable to start hair treatment while the primary problem persists with recurring headaches, burning sensations, and itching.

One should consult their neurosurgeon team to evaluate their condition before resorting to hair treatment. Hair treatment should be considered only after the main problem has been fully addressed.

In summary, while heavy medication post-surgery can sometimes lead to temporary hair fall, it’s crucial to address the underlying medical issue first. Dr. John Watts emphasizes the importance of prioritizing the treatment of the primary condition, such as headaches or other complications, before beginning any hair loss treatments. Consulting with your neurosurgeon and ensuring the main health issue is fully resolved is essential for achieving the best outcomes.

Can the baby hair on a receding hairline be regrown into thick hair as before? Do any treatments work to make it dense again, or is it simply part of the natural aging process?

In this educational video, Dr. John Watts explores why the hairline recedes as we age and what can be done to ensure that baby hair growing on a receding hairline stays intact.

Can the baby hair on a receding hairline be regrown into thick hair as before? Do any treatments work to make it dense again, or is it simply part of the natural aging process?

Dr. John Watts — a renowned dermatologist, trichologist, and one of Hyderabad’s top hair transplant surgeons — provides detailed answers and insights on these issues.

User ZY8LU asks: “Sir, I am 16 years old and am currently experiencing a receding hairline. I have noticed that my long hair in this area has now turned into baby hair. I want to know if I can regrow this baby hair into dense hair as before. Please explain.”

As we age, it’s common to experience a receding hairline. This phenomenon is a natural part of the aging process and can start as early as 16 years old. It typically becomes noticeable around the temple region and is a normal sign of maturing.

Dr. Watts, an expert in hair restoration, reassures individuals experiencing a receding hairline not to be overly concerned. He emphasizes that this condition is a typical part of aging and is often associated with male pattern baldness. During the progression of a receding hairline, longer, mature hair may gradually be replaced by finer, softer “baby hair.”

For those looking to address this issue early on, Dr. Watts suggests that treatments like Minoxidil can be effective. Minoxidil is known to help prevent the further miniaturization of baby hair and, in some cases, can thicken these finer hairs.

In addition to Minoxidil, other treatments such as Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy and stem cell treatments may also offer benefits. These methods aim to stimulate hair follicles and promote the growth of thicker hair. However, it’s important to note that if treatment is discontinued, there may be a return to the previous state, with some degree of hair loss and baldness.

In conclusion, while a receding hairline is a normal aspect of aging and can start at a young age, various treatments are available to manage and potentially improve hair growth. Early intervention with products like Minoxidil or therapies like PRP and stem cell treatments may help maintain or restore hair thickness, but ongoing treatment is often necessary to sustain these results.

Can a hair transplant set the hair right? If not, what are the alternatives? Is a hair transplant procedure advisable?

In this educational video, Dr. John Watts explains the alternatives for those struggling with multiple crown whorls that make hair styling difficult. What is the solution? Is a hair transplant procedure a viable option? Can a hair transplant set the hair right? If not, what are the alternatives? Is a hair transplant procedure advisable?

Dr. John Watts — a renowned dermatologist, trichologist, and one of Hyderabad’s top hair transplant surgeons — provides detailed answers and insights on these questions.

Ranjit BKR asks: “Sir, can we remove crown whorls with hair transplant procedure. I have three crown whorls and there is also baldness issue that I am facing there. Please explain.”

Many people have a single crown whorl, which helps in managing and styling their hair more easily. However, a significant challenge arises for those who possess multiple crown whorls. Each whorl can cause hair to grow in different directions, making it difficult to achieve a neat and organized hairstyle.

In this educational video, Dr John Watts explains the suitability of undergoing a hair transplant procedure in such a scenario.

While responding to the queries raised by Ranjit BKR, Dr Watts said that correcting crown whorls through a hair transplant procedure is not a recommended approach. This is primarily because no one has previously attempted to address multiple whorls through hair transplantation.

Instead, Dr. Watts suggests using hair softening techniques as a viable method to manage and style hair that grows in various directions due to opposing crown whorls. These techniques can help in achieving better control and a more manageable look.

For individuals experiencing baldness specifically in the crown whorl area, Dr. Watts advises that a hair transplant might be an appropriate solution. However, for those who are not facing baldness but simply have multiple crown whorls, hair transplantation is not considered advisable. The primary focus should be on managing and styling the hair rather than attempting to alter the natural pattern of growth through surgical procedures.

In summary, while hair transplantation can address baldness in the crown whorl region, it is not recommended for altering the natural pattern of multiple crown whorls. Hair softening techniques are a practical alternative for better hair management and styling.

In this educational video, Dr. John Watts explores the pros and cons of using oral Finasteride versus topical Finasteride lotion. He addresses questions such as: Is oral Finasteride or Finasteride lotion more effective? Does oral Finasteride lead to decreased erections and low libido? Are these side effects common?

Dr. John Watts — a renowned dermatologist, trichologist, and one of Hyderabad’s top hair transplant surgeons — provides detailed answers and insights on these issues.

Mr20YT39 asks: “Sir, I used oral Finasteride for three months and noticed reduced erections and low libido. I stopped it, which led to hair fall again. If I switch to Finasteride topical lotion, will I experience the same side effects? Please explain.”

Finasteride is a US FDA-approved drug for treating genetic baldness and promoting hair growth, available in both oral and topical forms. However, oral Finasteride may not be suitable for all patients, as it can cause sexual side effects in a very small percentage of users.

In the video, Dr. John Watts explains the pros and cons of oral Finasteride and outlines what to do if it leads to adverse effects such as low libido or decreased erections. He advises against switching directly to topical Finasteride lotion without proper consultation, especially if adverse effects occurred with oral Finasteride.

Topical Finasteride lotion is generally considered safer compared to oral Finasteride, as it has a lower likelihood of entering the digestive system and bloodstream. However, oral Finasteride can enter the bloodstream and may cause adverse side effects or beneficial effects, depending on the individual.

It is crucial to consult a dermatologist to determine if oral Finasteride has caused any hormonal changes. It needs to be found out if it one is merely showing symptoms or oral Finasteride has led to changes. Hormonal or semen analysis may be recommended before switching to a topical Finasteride lotion. Self-medication without professional guidance is not advisable.

What are these banned cocktail drug combinations? Why were they banned by the CDSCO, and on what grounds?

In this educational video, Dr. John Watts discusses the Minoxidil combinations or cocktails that have recently been banned by India’s drug control authority, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), in an order issued in August 2024.

What are these banned cocktail drug combinations? Why were they banned by the CDSCO, and on what grounds? Dr John Watts — a renowned dermatologist, trichologist, and one of Hyderabad’s top hair transplant surgeons — provides detailed answers and insights on these questions.

Charan Charan N2V asks: “Sir, recently India’s drug control authority banned several types of Minoxidil combo drugs. What are these types? Please explain.”

In the last week of August 2024, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) in India imposed a ban on 156 commonly used fixed drug combinations, also known as cocktail drugs, labeling them as “irrational combinations” due to their potential adverse effects on human health.

The banned drugs (the complete list is appended here) include those used for various conditions such as skin care, fever, cough and cold, and allergies. Among them are three Minoxidil combinations:

Minoxidil — azelaic acid — saw palmetto

Minoxidil — aminexil — alcohol

Minoxidil — aminexil

In response to Charan’s queries, Dr. John Watts reassured that there is no cause for concern, as the banned combinations do not include the approved plain Minoxidil or Minoxidil-Finasteride topical lotions.

Dr. John Watts explained that the rationale for banning these unapproved Minoxidil combo drugs lies in their tendency to affect the molecular stability of the drug when used in such combinations. These changes can adversely impact the properties of Minoxidil. However, the individual drugs — Minoxidil, azelaic acid, saw palmetto, and aminexil — are safe when used independently, as their molecular properties remain stable.

In this educational video, Dr. John Watts explains if there is an ideal season to undergo a hair transplant procedure. Which season can provide best hair transplant results — summer, winner or monsoon? Which season the hair grafts survive better? Is it just a myth or true? Is there any scientific reasoning behind it?

Dr. John Watts — a renowned dermatologist, trichologist, and one of Hyderabad’s top hair transplant surgeons — provides detailed answers and insights on these questions.

Yashwant Goud 8023 asks: “Sir, I want to know if there is any ideal season to undergo hair transplant procedure that can give the best results? Please explain.”

There is no scientific rationale linking hair transplant results to seasonal conditions. Whether one undergoes a hair transplant in summer, winter, or monsoon, the transplant results will not be affected if proper post-care is maintained.

In this educational video, Dr. John Watts dispels this myth while addressing queries from Yashwant Goud 8023.

He tells Yashwant that if the hair transplant procedure is carried out in a stress-free environment and followed by a week of diligent post-transplant care, good results can be expected. He emphasizes that the season — whether summer, winter, or monsoon — does not impact the survival of hair grafts.

However, exposure to dust, excessive sunlight, or pollution immediately after the procedure can adversely affect the transplant results. Such exposure may damage the implanted grafts and increase the risk of infection. Dr. Watts advises viewers to disregard rumors about seasonal impacts and to consider hair transplantation if other methods, such as hair oil, medication, treatments, and semi-invasive procedures like PRP, have proven ineffective.

Conclusion: The success of a hair transplant is not determined by seasonal conditions but by following proper care procedures. Ensuring the right post-operative environment and avoiding potential irritants will help in achieving optimal results.
