If, like us, you’re a fan of the Richard Donner/Steven Spielberg cult classic film The Goonies, you may know that 2025 is the 40th anniversary of the film. In honor of that milestone, we’re going back into our archives to revisit the conversation we had in 2015 with one of the child stars of the film who played the role of “Chunk.” He is a prominent Hollywood transactional attorney, Jeff B. Cohen, Esq., known for his ability to make successful deals under extremely tough, high-stakes situations.
During this episode, Jeff shares a bit about his transformation from “Chunk” to a top-tier Hollywood attorney. We discuss highlights from his 2015 book The Dealmaker’s Ten Commandments: Ten Essential Tools for Business Forged in the Trenches of Hollywood. Our conversation includes why Jeff includes a warning chapter at the beginning of this book. Drawing inspiration from Machiavelli, Warhol, and even Oprah, Jeff shares a no-nonsense approach to mastering deal-making under the toughest circumstances.
Jeff is co-founder of Beverly Hills-based Cohen Gardner LLP. Variety named him on both its Dealmakers Impact List and Legal Impact list. He is a distinguished lecturer and active writer; he’s authored numerous articles discussing business, technology, and entertainment matters for CNBC, The Huffington Post, Backstage, Lawyerist, and others.
