Episode 31- Where is David?
Some people are lost, and some just don’t know where they are going yet.
This week’s show we answer a question that keeps coming up, Where has David been?  You know, the other guy who started the show with you way back in the first season?  He sings the theme song?  That guy?
Well, it’s both a long and a short answer.  The short version is: God asked him to do it.  The long version involves standing there after God asks you to do something and you have to figure out what you are going to do next.
And while David’s circumstances are not exactly the same as everyone else’s, if you walk with God long enough, you end up doing something that doesn’t make any sense to anyone else.  Jesus comes down and tells you to start something new, or end something great.  And often, from the outside, you look weird or foolish.  Especially to non believers.  And this is mostly what we talk about.  I’ve been there, David’s been there, and hopefully all of you have or will walk with God long enough and he will ask and you will answer His Call and look stupid.
I hope you enjoy this episode.  It’s a little personal, in a good way.  As usual, please continue the excellent job of sharing the links for the shows and the blog posts.  That’s what the buttons are for.  Thanks.
And even more so now, please continue to pray for us as we crank out this thing every week from scratch.
Thanks,
Cliff

Episode 30, Choosing Political Evils
It’s another show about politics this week!
I will endeavor not to do too many shows like this, but I have questions and concerns about our current political environment.  Not just as a Christian, but also as an American.
The concern that I had bopping around in my brain this time around is this:
Everyone says we just have to choose between the lesser of two evils.  Ok, But doesn’t that mean we are choosing evil either way?  And why is that OK?  Is it biblical?
So to help answer that question, I grabbed my brother Clay and my old friend John Burke to discuss it.  They are both on opposite ends of the spectrum politically, so I figure we could have a nice little chat, end up somewhere in the middle and all sing KumBaYah.
That’s not exactly what happened.
At least we kept it civil.  Mostly.
Let me know what you guys think about it.

Episode 29- Noah Explains Easter
It’s Episode 29, Where Noah, my beloved son in whom I am well pleased, completely explains the Mystery of Easter.  OK, maybe not completely.  But he does pretty good for a 6 year old.
It’s a super short episode, and trying to get a 6 year old on a Saturday morning to hold still and talk directly into the microphone is a bit of a challenge, so the audio levels are sometimes less than perfect.
But we enjoyed making it, and that part shines through anyway.
Hope you guys enjoy it.

Episode 28, Not enough faith to be an atheist
I don’t Have enough Faith to be an Atheist.
I’ve said that numerous times.  I have thought about it, played around with the concepts and really well laid out arguments for an Atheistic world view.  I can’t handle the leaps in logic and sheer blind faith required to ignore so much of the world.
Of course, that’s just what an atheist would say to me about my faith.
And while I do have plans for a show devoted 100% to atheism, it’s not the main topic of this week’s episode.
To be honest, I’m not 100% sure what the main topic of this week’s show is.
I had planned to call it Tales Of Christianity, with Lance Carter.  Or Lance’s Progress.  Or The Testimony of Lance Carter.  Or a bunch of other witty stuff.
(In the end, I went for a ClickBait title.  Don’t judge me)
This episode does not follow the “normal rules” of conducting an interview.  We barely mention where he’s from, what he does, practically no well defined narrative at all.
What this is, is a rolicking fun fire hose style conversation.
Topics include:

* If you match the blueprint, you’re right
* Matthew 6:30-33
* Smoking, Drinking, Cussing Churches
*  John 3, Darkness v. Light
* Country Western Station Churches
* The road to Emmaus
* Fellowship vs Church
* oh, yeah, and Atheism

If you are diggin Lance, head on over to his website, http://www.czyfox.com/
I would also appreciate it if you headed over to our sponsor’s page, Revival Outfitters.  More on them in future episodes.
And if I could ask one more favor, please spread the word about us.  Please share the Links on FaceBook, instagram, heck even Google+.  We’re not too proud.  I’ve started snapchatting rather than tweeting.  My particular brand of narcissism seems more compatible with SnapChat than Twitter.   A branding expert would probably say I need to stick to one handle across all media, but I’m not about to start doing things correctly now.
Thanks for listening,
Cliff

Episode 27 Lent: The good, the bad, and the ugly
Episode 27, Lent: the good, the bad and the ugly!
I thought about calling this episode, All About Lent.  But then I realized that not only was kind of a boring title, but also a horribly misleading one.  If you want a complete history of lent, check wikipedia.  (Don’t forget to donate)
Rather, this episode is more about me working out my feelings about the “holiday.”  I confess to being youthfully dismissive of it earlier in my life.  Just another case of The Catholic Church stepping on your throat, preaching the idea that God Hates Your Good Times.
But in the last few years, I’ve had a change of heart.  Sort of.  Mostly.  Obviously I was conflicted about it.  So I called my friend Jeff.  You remember him, he’s been on the podcast before, talking about Prayer and Thanksgiving.
We give a brief history, and then dive into some of the problems of institutionalized legalism, the hedonism associated with Lent, and the positive benefits that can come daily discipline.  (I wrote a little bit about that here.  Not my best work, but I’m learning.  )
Jeff had some wonderful insights, and I am excited to share them with you guys.
Here’s some of the scripture references:
Colossians 2: 6-22
I Corinthians 9:25-27
And something out of Galatians, but I didn’t write it down….
Anyway, I know you will like it.  And when you do, spread the message with the Social Media buttons!!  Pick one, pick all of them, go nuts.  remember, you are the marketing department, please continue to help us out.
Above all, continue to pray for us, as we make this project from scratch, every week.
Thanks,
Cliff

Episode 26 Show God the money
It’s episode 26, time to talk about money.
But we don’t talk about it in the usual evangelical kind of way.  We don’t mention pinching your pennies til Abe pukes.  We don’t beg for money so that we can stay on the air.  Or my personal favorite, give money or God will strike me dead.
No, this time we talk about our relationship with money and how it reflects on almost directly on your relationship with God.  No further spoilers.  Just listen.
Scripture we discuss in this episode:
Luke 12:13-21 Parable of the rich fool
1 Timothy 6: 3-10 The love of money is really bad stuff
Hebrews 13:5-6 The love of the green stuff is still really bad
Ecclesiastes 5:18-20 Enjoy the fruit of your labor
Ecc 2:24 Enjoying work is a gift from God
Ecc 3:13 Enjoying work is still a gift from God
Philippians 4:11-13 The Secret
I need to thank my good buddy Ken Collier for helping us out this time around.

Episode 25, Built upon The Rock
 Welcome to episode 25!!!
One of my kids favorite songs goes, “The Wise Man Built His House Upon The Rock.”
They prefer the Cedarmont Kids version:
Jesus’ parable in Matthew 7:24-27 is a favorite in Sunday School because, much like the video, you can have a cool visual lesson with houses crumbling and make a big mess, which kids love.
But is that all there is?
Nope.
I drag my brother into this week’s discussion about foundations.  We discuss the idea that sometimes, it can be really hard to tell whether you are on rock, or on sand.
What we say we believe, and what we really and truly believe are on display every day.  What you really believe can be seen in your behaviors towards people, situations, even yourself.
And so I think it is really important to sit down, and really dig into your foundational beliefs.  And do it while things are going “good” in your life.  Because as the song says, the rain will come down, the flood will come up.  And at that point, it can be too late to change anything.
We also talk about my struggles with faith, and how this parable has been and continues to be a help.  It’s so important to make sure you are on The Rock.
I hope you like this episode.  If you do, please share a link on your favorite social media platform.  You can also go back and enjoy some of our past episodes.  Share those too while you are at it, please.
Mostly just pray for us over here.  That would be the biggest help of all.
Thanks,
Cliff

Episode 24, Consistency
Welcome to Episode 24-Consistency!!
And welcome to Season 2 of the God Scrubs and Work Boots Podcast!!
I am very proud of the work we put up last year, and very excited about the plans for this coming year.
And super excited about this week’s guest host, my wife, Denise!  Our New Year’s resolution for this year was one word- Consistency.  It doesn’t really matter how many individual goals we make, if we are inconsistent with our efforts, they will all fail.  Again, and again, and again.
If you don’t go to the gym every week, exercise doesn’t work.  If you don’t plan your meals every week, your diet won’t work.  No consistency, no changes.
In the same vein, If you do nothing but the same thing over and over again, don’t expect a new outcome.  If you only run 1 mile every week, don’t expect to cruise through 20 miles tomorrow.
If you have only been curling 25 pounds for years, don’t expect to toss 135 pounds over your head tomorrow.
The same rules apply to our spiritual life, or spiritual development.  Billy Graham didn’t get to be Billy Graham overnight.  He didn’t cram the night before a campaign, he was ready because of consistent spiritual disciplines over years.  (And God’s help, of course)
I hope you enjoy our conversation.  I am proud of Denise for taking her own advice and stepping outside of her comfort zone by being on the show.  So please send her some love for helping us out.
You can do that by commenting on our FaceBook page.  If you enjoy the show, please do us a favor and share the link to the show on your favorite social media platform.
Please subscribe on iTunes, or the Blubrry network.
And as usual, please pray for us, the show, and God’s grace and guidance.
Thanks,
Cliff

Episode 23 Aslan is on the move
 Welcome to Episode 23, Aslan is on the move!
This year I have been reading a devotional by Sky Jethani, (who is on the “chicken list” for people I want to be a guest).  In one earlier this month he laid out the political revolution that was sparked when Gabriel appeared to Mary and announced the arrival of The One True King.  The line from The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe occurred to me, and never left: Aslan is on the move.
Aslan is the rightful heir to the throne of Narnia, son of the Emperor Across The Sea.  He will overthrow the reign of The White Witch, banish the eternal winter and bring back springtime.  If it sounds like The Gospel Story, you are right.  It’s supposed to.  Jesus infiltrates enemy territory and starts a rebellion not just against Rome, but the Gates of Hell itself.  And brings back spring.
The announcement of the baby’s birth sparks a revolution that will shake the very foundations of the world.  It sounds like hyperbole, but it’s true.  Everything changed.  And you had people like Mary and Joseph that welcomed the disruption vs people like Herod, who would murder anyone who got in his way, even toddlers.
Here are the scripture references from this episode:
Isaiah 9:6-7
Luke 1:29-38
Luke 1:46-55
It’s another short episode this week.  Don’t worry; we’ll get back to blowing things up with hour+ long episodes in the New Year, Lord willin’.
Until then, we would consider it an early Christmas gift if you would share the links for this week’s show on your favorite social media platform.  Leave us some comments on the FaceBook page too.  Subscribe on iTunes, leave us a review, we would love it.
Continue to Pray for us.
And have yourselves a merry little Christmas.

Episode 22, How should Christians respond?
Welcome to Episode 22!!  How Should Christians Respond in a world going kind of cattywampus?
With all of the truly evil things happening in the world right now, it can be really terrifying and completely overwhelming.  People shooting folks over there, over here, seemingly everywhere.  And it’s not just the plain old crazy we all grew up with.  It’s a whole new type, at least for us over here.
And it’s not just The Bad Guys, it’s the wave of people running away from various conflicts seeking refuge wherever they can find it.  Sure, alot of them might need help, but at least some of them could be Bad Guys in disguise.
What are we supposed to do?  Who are we supposed to listen to?  There are plenty of voices lined up on both sides of the aisle.  They run the gamut from kill them and their families to give them all a hug.
There are many, many “christian” leaders busy saying many things.   I was going to put up more links to various other stories, but I stopped.  It was too depressing, and I just didn’t want to add to the mess.  Plus, I uncovered not a few despicable websites that I did not want to expose my audience to nor in any way seem to endorse.
So where should a follower of Christ get his and her answers?  The News?  Your Pastor?  Facebook?  (hint, never facebook.  Unless it’s our page, then it’s ok)
Might I humbly suggest that we actually read the Bible, and the words of Christ?  And might I humbly ask for christians to become radical, and actually go forth and do what Christ has already gone on record as what our response should be?
Gosh, wouldn’t that be something?
Our illustrious co-host, David, returns from exile..I mean hiatus to discuss who we should and should not be listening to, and more importantly why.
We toss out a ton of bible verses, and a better show would write them all down for you.  But you are stuck with us.  Here’s the two main one scriptures we keep circling around, Psalm 1 and Matthew 25.
I hope you enjoy it.  I know we had fun recording it.
If you are are digging it, then please do us a favor and share the links to this and past shows on your favorite social media platform.  That’s why those buttons are over there on the left hand side of your screen.
And as always, please pray for us.
Have fun,
Cliff
