**ALERT** ONCE WE HIT 5 PATREON SUBS WE WILL DO AVATAR 1 AND MAKE DALEY SUFFER PATREON.COM/AMPMVIDEO

We are back after a week off for our health! Join the AMPM VIDEO crew as they continue the spooky season past October with The Orphanage (Spanish: El orfanato) a 2007  Spanish gothic supernatural horror film and the debut feature of Spanish filmmaker J. A. Bayona. The film stars Belén Rueda as Laura, Fernando Cayo as her husband, Carlos, and Roger Príncep as their adopted son Simón.  The plot centers on Laura, who returns to her childhood home, an  orphanage. Laura plans to turn the house into a home for disabled  children, but after an argument with Simón, he goes missing.

The film's script was written by Sergio G. Sánchez in 1996 and brought to the attention of Bayona in 2004. Bayona asked his long-time friend, director Guillermo del Toro,  to help produce the film and to double its budget and filming time. The  Orphanage is an international co-production between Spain and Mexico.  Bayona wanted the film to capture the feel of 1970s Spanish cinema; he cast Geraldine Chaplin and Belén Rueda, who were later praised for their roles in the film.

Midsommar (2019) - Go Team Video (EP. 49) Is Ari Aster a master?

Spend your mid-day with the AMPM VIDEO crew as they talk Midsommar a 2019 folk horror film written and directed by Ari Aster. The film stars Florence Pugh and Jack Reynor as a dysfunctional couple who travel to Sweden with a group of friends for a midsummer festival, only to find themselves in the clutches of a sinister cult practicing Scandinavian paganism. Supporting actors include William Jackson Harper, Vilhelm Blomgren, Ellora Torchia, Archie Madekwe and Will Poulter.

A co-production between the United States and Sweden, the film was initially pitched to Aster as a straightforward slasher film set among Swedish cultists.[4] While elements of the original concept remain in the final product, the  film's plot centers on a deteriorating relationship, inspired by a  difficult breakup which Aster himself experienced. The soundtrack, composed by British  electronic musician Bobby Krlic (better known as his stage name The Haxan Cloak), takes inspiration from Nordic folk music. The film was shot on location in Budapest in the summer and fall of 2018.

Kill Bill Vol. 2 (2004) - Go Team Video (EP. 48) Is Kill Bill Vol.2 better than Vol. 1?

Join the AMPM VIDEO crew as they continue their coverage of Kill Bill: Volume 2 a 2004 American neo-Western martial arts film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. It stars Uma Thurman as the Bride, who continues her campaign of revenge against the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad (Lucy Liu, Michael Madsen, Daryl Hannah, and Vivica A. Fox) and their leader Bill (David Carradine), who tried to kill her and her unborn child.

Volume 2 is the second of two Kill Bill films produced simultaneously; the first, Volume 1,  was released six months earlier. They were originally set for a single  release, but the film, with a runtime of over four hours, was divided in  two. Tarantino conceived Kill Bill as an homage to grindhouse cinema including martial arts films, samurai cinema, blaxploitation, and spaghetti westerns. Like its predecessor, Volume 2 received positive reviews. It grossed $152.2 million worldwide on a production budget of $30 million.

GO TEAM VIDEO
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022) - Go Team Video (EP. 46) Let's Talk Hotdog Fingers

Learn how to verse jump with the AMPM VIDEO crew as they talk Everything Everywhere All at Once  a 2022 American absurdist science fiction comedy-drama film written and directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (collectively known as "Daniels"), who produced it with the Russo brothers. It stars Michelle Yeoh as a Chinese American woman being audited by the IRS who discovers that she must connect with parallel universe versions of herself to prevent a powerful being from causing the destruction of the multiverse. Stephanie Hsu, Ke Huy Quan, Jenny Slate, Harry Shum Jr., James Hong, and Jamie Lee Curtis appear in supporting roles.

The film was described by The New York Times as a "swirl of genre anarchy" and features elements of black comedy, science fiction, fantasy, martial arts film, and animation. Kwan and Scheinert researched the concept of the multiverse as far back as 2010, and began penning the screenplay as early as 2016. Originally written for Jackie Chan, the lead role was later reworked and offered to Yeoh.[5][6] Principal photography began in January 2020 and concluded in March as the COVID-19 pandemic reached the United States. The film's soundtrack features music composed by Son Lux, including collaborations with musicians Mitski, David Byrne, André 3000, and Randy Newman.

Everything Everywhere All at Once premiered at South by Southwest on March 11, 2022, and began a limited theatrical release in the United States on March 25, before a wide release by A24 on April 8. The film received widespread critical acclaim. Reviews praised its imagination, direction, and screenplay; Yeoh's performance; and its handling of themes such as existentialism, nihilism, and Asian American identity. It has grossed over $100 million worldwide, becoming A24's first movie to do so and surpassing Hereditary (2018) as its highest-grossing film.

GO TEAM VIDEO
JAWS (1975) - Go Team Video (EP. 45) First time seeing JAWS reissue in IMAX

Close out the summer with the AMPM VIDEO crew as they go on vacation with Jaws a 1975 American  thriller film directed by Steven Spielberg, based on the 1974 novel by Peter Benchley. It stars Roy Scheider as police chief Martin Brody who, with the help of a marine biologist (Richard Dreyfuss) and a professional shark hunter (Robert Shaw), hunts a man-eating great white shark that is attacking beachgoers at a summer resort town. Murray Hamilton plays the mayor, and Lorraine Gary portrays Brody's wife. The screenplay is credited to Benchley, who wrote the first drafts, and actor-writer Carl Gottlieb, who rewrote the script during principal photography.

Shot mostly on location on Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts, Jaws was the first major motion picture to be shot on the ocean, and  consequently had a troubled production with issues such as going over  budget and past schedule. As the art department's mechanical sharks  often malfunctioned, Spielberg decided mostly to suggest the shark's  presence, employing an ominous and minimalist theme created by composer John Williams to indicate its impending appearances. Spielberg and others have compared this suggestive approach to that of director Alfred Hitchcock. Universal Pictures'  release of the film to over 450 screens was an exceptionally wide  release for a major studio picture at the time, and it was accompanied  by an extensive marketing campaign with a heavy emphasis on television  spots and tie-in merchandise.

Join the AMPM VIDEO crew as they talk about Prey a 2022 American science fiction action horror film based on the Predator franchise. The film is directed by Dan Trachtenberg and written by Patrick Aison. It stars Amber Midthunder, Dakota Beavers, Michelle Thrush, Stormee Kipp, Julian Black Antelope, Bennett Taylor, and Dane DiLiegro. Development of the film began during the production of The Predator (2018), when producer John Davis was approached by Trachtenberg and Aison, with a concept that they had been developing since 2016. In late-2020, the film's title was revealed to be the codename for the fifth installment in the franchise. Filming took  place around Calgary during summer 2021, with the entire film shot in English and some sequences shot in Comanche as well. The remaining sequences were dubbed into Comanche by the cast, reprising their roles.

GoodFellas (1990) - Go Team Video (EP. 36)

As far as the AMPM VIDEO crew can remember, we always wanted to talk about GoodFellas a 1990 American biographical crime film directed by Martin Scorsese, written by Nicholas Pileggi and Scorsese, and produced by Irwin Winkler. It is a film adaptation of the 1985 nonfiction book Wiseguy by Pileggi. Starring Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta, Joe Pesci, Lorraine Bracco and Paul Sorvino, the film narrates the rise and fall of mob associate Henry Hill and his friends and family from 1955 to 1980.

Scorsese initially titled the film Wise Guy and postponed making it; he and Pileggi later changed the title to Goodfellas.  To prepare for their roles in the film, De Niro, Pesci and Liotta often  spoke with Pileggi, who shared research material left over from writing  the book. According to Pesci, improvisation and ad-libbing came out of rehearsals wherein Scorsese gave the actors freedom to do  whatever they wanted. The director made transcripts of these sessions,  took the lines he liked most and put them into a revised script, which  the cast worked from during principal photography.

GO TEAM VIDEO
Poetic Justice (1993) - Go Team Video (EP. 34)

The AMPM Video crew watch for the first time Poetic Justice a 1993 American romantic drama film written and directed by John Singleton and starring Janet Jackson and Tupac Shakur with Regina King and Joe Torry in supporting roles. Poetic Justice follows Justice (Jackson), an African-American poet mourning the loss  of her boyfriend to gun violence, who goes on a road trip from South Central L.A. to Oakland on a mail truck alongside her friend (King) and a postal worker  (Shakur) who she initally cannot stand but soon helps Justice deal with  her depression.

Following the success of his debut film, Boyz n the Hood, Singleton wanted to make a film that would give a voice to young African-American women. Jada Pinkett, Lisa Bonet, Monica Calhoun and many other popular actresses auditioned for the role of Justice,  though Singleton knew from the script's draft that the role was solely  intended for Janet Jackson. Filming began on April 14, 1992 and ended on July 4, 1992.
