Corelli was the the first bestselling novelist in a modern sense, dominating the scene from her debut in 1867 and largely forgotten because she wrote her social commentary, wit and style into romances that were beloved of Queen Victoria and Churchill, among many others.

1984 Anthem Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, George Orwell, Ayn Rand
Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/1/audiobook/820473 to listen full audiobooks. Title: 1984 Anthem Brave New World Author: Aldous Huxley, George Orwell, Ayn Rand Narrator: The Force, Geoffrey Giuliano Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 8 hours 8 minutes Release date: September 26, 2024 Genres: Classics Publisher's Summary: In 1984 by George Orwell, one of the pivotal paragraphs that captures the essence of the novel is when Winston Smith reflects on the power and control exerted by the Party. This passage illustrates the Party's ability to manipulate reality and shape individual thought: 'Who controls the past controls the future; who controls the present controls the past.' This phrase encapsulates the totalitarian regime's grip on history and truth. By constantly rewriting records and altering facts, the Party ensures that they control not just the narrative of the past, but also how people think and perceive the present and future. It is a chilling depiction of the dangers of unchecked power and the erosion of personal freedom and truth under a totalitarian state. In Anthem by Ayn Rand, the story is set in a dystopian future where individuality has been entirely suppressed in favor of collective control. The protagonist, Equality 7-2521, struggles to break free from a society where the word 'I' is forbidden, and personal identity is considered a sin. As he discovers the power of independent thought and embraces his own identity, he ultimately rejects the oppressive collective and declares the sanctity of individualism. The novel explores themes of freedom, self-expression, and the importance of personal choice in shaping one's deSTINY. In Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, ollows Bernard Marx and John the Savage as they grapple with a society that prioritizes comfort and control over freedom and authentic human experience. Through this dystopian lens, Huxley critiques the dangers of a technologically advanced, consumer-driven society that strips away personal freedom and individuality.

Now they're a couple of old timers charged with wrangling an unholy trio of killers escaped from prison. Because not every Western hero wears a white hat or a tin star. Most of them are just fighting to survive. Not many men get a second chance at life. But thanks to a chief U.S. Marshal who needs their help, the bank-robbing duo of Jimmy ''Slash'' Braddock and Melvin ''Pecos Kid'' Baker are on the right side of the law. As unofficial marshals, they've agreed to pick up three prisoners from a Milestown jail and escort them to Denver. Sounds easy enough--until they learn the prisoners are an unholy trio of sadistic cutthroat killers known as Talon, ''Hellraisin''' Frank, and the Sioux called Black Pot. And they've managed to escape before Slash and Pecos even show up. The three convicts have turned Milestown into their own savage slayground. Drinking, killing, ravaging--and worse--they're painting the town red with blood and burning it to the ground. Slash and Pecos manage to stop them in a nick of time. Talkin' Greenwich Village: The Heady Rise and Slow Fall of America's Bohemian Music Capital by David Browne
Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/1/audiobook/739357 to listen full audiobooks. Title: Talkin' Greenwich Village: The Heady Rise and Slow Fall of America's Bohemian Music Capital Author: David Browne Narrator: Sean Runnette Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 15 hours 9 minutes Release date: September 17, 2024 Genres: Arts & Entertainment Publisher's Summary: The definitive history of the rise and heyday of the revolutionary Greenwich Village music scene, based on new research and first-hand interviews with many of its legendary performers   Although Greenwich Village encompasses less than a square mile in downtown New York, rarely has such a concise area nurtured so many innovative artists and genres. Over the course of decades, Billie Holiday, the Weavers, Sonny Rollins, Dave Van Ronk, Ornette Coleman, Bob Dylan, Nina Simone, Phil Ochs, and Suzanne Vega are just a few who migrated to the Village, recognizing it as a sanctuary for visionaries, non-conformists, and those looking to reinvent themselves. Working in the Village’s smokey coffeehouses and clubs, they chronicled the tumultuous Sixties, rewrote jazz history, and took folk and rock & roll into places they hadn’t been before.   Based on over 150 new interviews (Judy Collins, Sonny Rollins, Herbie Hancock, Eric Andersen, Suzzy and Terre Roche, Suzanne Vega, Steve Forbert, Arlo Guthrie, John Sebastian, Shawn Colvin, the members of the Blues Project, and more), previously unseen documents, and author David Browne’s longtime immersion in the scene, Talkin’ Greenwich Village lends the saga the epic, panoramic scope it’s long deserved. It takes readers from the Fifties jamborees in Washington Square Park and into landmark venues like Gerde’s Folk City, the Gaslight Café, and the Village Vanguard, onto Dylan’s momentous arrival and returns, the no-holds-barred Seventies years (West Village discos, National Lampoon’s Lemmings), and the folk revival of the Eighties (Vega’s enduring “Tom’s Diner”).   In eye-opening fashion, Browne also details the often-overlooked people of color in the Sixties folk clubs, reveals how the FBI and city government consistently kept their eyes on the community, unearths the machinations behind the infamous “beatnik riot” in Washington Square Park, and tells the interconnected tales of Van Ronk, the seminal band the Blues Project, and the beloved sister trio, the Roches.   In also recounting the racial tensions, crackdowns, and changes in New York and music that infiltrated the neighborhood, Talkin’ Greenwich Village is more than just vivid cultural history. It also speaks to the rise and waning of bohemian culture itself, set to some of the most enduring lyrics, melodies, and jazz improvisations in American music.

Twilight Alley by Stefan Zweig

Title: Twilight Alley Author: Stefan Zweig Narrator: Mark Rice-Oxley Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 0 hours 42 minutes Release date: September 9, 2024 Genres: Classics Publisher's Summary: Stefan Zweig was born on the 28th November 1881 in Vienna, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and into a wealthy Jewish family with interests in banking and textiles. He studied philosophy at the University of Vienna and achieved his degree in 1904.Zweig first published in 1900 and two decades later was a popular and highly regarded author in many parts of the world, although not in England. During the Great War he served in the Archives of the Ministry of War and supported Austria's war effort through his writings in the ‘Neue Freie Presse’. Whilst his work praised his Country’s progress and, on occasions, its excesses and massacres, he later claimed, in his memoir, that he was a pacifist. In 1912 he began an affair with the married, and mother or two, Friderike Maria von Winternitz, but it was only in 1920 that circumstances allowed them to marry. She took care of much of his business interests and supported him artistically. In this decade too many of his most famous works including the short stories; ‘Amok’, and ‘Letter from an Unknown Woman’ (filmed in 1948 by Max Ophüls), novels; ‘Confusion of Feelings’ and biographies including that on Marie Antoinette (filmed by MGM in 1938) were published. He was also the librettist with Richard Strauss of two operas and a keen collector of autographed musical manuscripts. His collection of over two hundred pieces was later donated to the British Library. In 1934, Zweig, as a Jew, and finding life very difficult under his anti-Semitic government and the neighbouring Nazi’s persuaded him to leave Austria for England. In 1940 Zweig, now divorced and married to his second wife, and former secretary, Lotte Altmann, left London and via New York moved to Petrópolis, a German-colonized town 50 miles north of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. Although he continued to write he became, along with his wife, increasingly depressed about the situation in Europe and the future for humanity, His memoir ‘The World of Yesterday’ was completed on the 22nd February 1942.The following day the Zweig’s were found in their house dead of a barbiturate overdose, holding each other’s hand. He was 60.

No Haven: The Connecticut Mob and the Rise of America's Model City by Paul Bleakley

Title: No Haven: The Connecticut Mob and the Rise of America's Model City Author: Paul Bleakley Narrator: Joe Barrett Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 7 hours 56 minutes Release date: September 3, 2024 Genres: The Americas Publisher's Summary: With Boston to the north and New York City to the south, Connecticut's history of organized crime is often overlooked. This is the untold story of New Haven's illegal past. One of America's most historic and enduring cities, New Haven has wrangled with a perpetual identity struggle, torn between worlds that occasionally converged in chaos and violence. In the 1930s, Connecticut became a region where Mafia families like the Genoveses, Gambinos, Colombos, and Patriarcas shared turf—working together with enough profits to go around or descending into open war to rival that experienced in any major city. Central to this conflict were three men who were, at different times, cautious allies or sworn nemeses. Representing the Genoveses, Midge Renault reigned supreme thanks to his reputation for wanton violence. Meanwhile, Colombo capo Ralph 'Whitey' Tropiano maintained a lower profile, which belied his reputation as a vicious killer. But it was his lieutenant, Billy 'The Wild Guy' Grasso, who ultimately rose to the top after joining the New England Patriarca Family, enjoying a short rule that ended with a murder plot that left him on the wrong end of a bullet.
