It’s hard to know what belonging is, but when you meet it, hear it, see it, you recognise it. It doesn’t matter if you’ve lived in a place forever, or just arrived.
These stories have been created by the acclaimed Cornish film and theatre company, o-region as part of the research and development process for their new show WHITE HORSE. They form a series of short podcasts based on information and insights gleaned from Cornish communities. These communities shared their tales with teams of artists during a series of residencies, led by o-region’s Artistic Director, Simon Harvey, and lead writer, Anna Maria Murphy.
From Zennor to Treyla, from Scilly to Bude, Redruth to Launceston, the From The Horse's Mouth writers have been gifted memories, hidden histories, sometimes a throwaway anecdote, but always something surprising.
Belonging is definitely in the stories that are told. They make the map of a place. You won’t find the stories we’ve been told in a museum or a guide book.

From the Horse’s Mouth is possible thanks to a grant from the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Good Growth programme, which is managed by Cornwall Council and funded by the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund. The project is part of a £4.4m investment in a cultural events and talent programme across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly by the Good Growth Programme.
