Protesters marched Easter Sunday in an effort to “take back the country,” protesting government overreach while standing for civil liberties during the global pandemic. The event was a non-partisan, peaceful protest in San Clemente, CA. Protest Organizer, Alan Hostetter, hopes the movement will catch fire across the country.

Effective 4/8/20 all San Clemente city beaches/water, coastal trails, & San Onofre State Beach (including Trestles) are closed in an effort to slow the spread of #covid19 / #coronavirus. The announcement was made at the April 7th city council meeting and fell into effect on April 8th. Read the official press release at the City of San Clemente website, which reads in part, “Although many of our citizens are self-regulating and practicing social distancing, the increased number of people gathering on San Clemente beaches has created more opportunities for community spread of the virus.” Closures will be enforced by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Marine Safety, Code Enforcement, and Park Rangers.

San Clemente Presbyterian Church members had planned a big birthday party for Heidi Schmid (who struggles w/ Friedreich's Ataxia) but with the social distancing guidelines, the party had to be cancelled. Church members moved to plan B, a birthday parade caravan! Heidi’s friends prove that even during a pandemic and quarantine, we can still celebrate friendship, love - and birthdays!

What a full-time working single mother of 3 did to get her children out of full-time daycare. We visit a retail establishment that has been in San Clemente for over 40 years. Susie Smith, of Backstreet Home Decor, is a graduate of USC. She was a full-time dental hygienist in the 70s and though the pay was sufficient, the time with her children was not. Delving into her talents, she took a chance, quit her dental career and launched a successful home decor business spanning over 40 years.
