This is such a wonderful interview that I have with Kiyana, who speaks to both of her birthing experiences. The conversation gets rolling right away with Kiyana’s beautiful understanding and gratitude for her first birth experience and how it shaped the way her second baby was brought into the world.
In this conversation, Kiyana dives into:
*Being the only girl in a family of 6 children and taking on the role of Matriarch quite soon
*Meeting her partner and getting pregnant, then having to navigate HG in that first pregnancy
*Taking castor oil, on her own accord, which caused her to become dehydrated and transferring for fluids
*Transitioning from 4cm to 9cm after receiving fluids at the hospital and birthing her baby easefully with positive support from the medical staff
*Suspecting she was pregnant with her second baby when her milk supply started to dry up around 9 months postpartum
*Knowing that this second baby would be born at home, so she could have the birth that she truly wanted
*Leaning into the trust that everything would work out for her and being deeply connected to gratitude before she began her birth process
*Moving through a pleasurable birthing experience and birthing her baby while standing at the bathroom sink
*and a quick little chat about the importance of sharing the stories of black women birthing in their power!
Kiyana’s story is amazing proof that you can create the birth experience that you want by accepting, trusting and holding gratitude for all that you are doing in those moments and that birthing in pleasure is completely possible.

My conversation today is with Kaelya. She’s a woman who chose to birth her first child free of the medical system in a Hotel. Unfortunately Kaeyla’s mothering journey began, not through a pregnancy, but at a very young age as a result of the sexual assault she experienced as a child.
In this conversation Kaeyla shares how she began coming into the healing of her past traumas and made the space to bring this child forth. She speaks about:
* Seeking community and the structure of re-villaging and how it’s needed
*How travelling in her early 30’s brought healing and the integrations of decolonization to her life
*Finding out she was pregnant and immediately knowing that going to the doctor wasn’t something that she wanted to do
*Having the awareness that her medicinal Cannabis usage would be red-flagged if she entered into the medical system, so that brought confirmation as to her choice to birth free of the system
*Seeking community and having to find it online
*Going through the experience of thinking that her pregnancy released
*Choosing to birth in a Hotel instead of her 5th-wheel trailer, knowing that the experience of birth she was about to go through needed more physical space
*Intuitively asking her partner to pleasure her during her birthing experience
*Birthing her baby in the Hotel bathtub and rushing to get her placenta out
*Having a bit of difficulty with her breastfeeding journey
*and then going back to her 5th-wheel trailer as a new woman and mother!
This is such an incredible story that Kaeyla shares about her stepping into her truth and power, having full trust in herself and her body and being so lovingly supported by her partner to claim her voice and guide her baby into this world.
I also want to mention, if you’re seeking information and guidance on Cannabis usage during pregnancy, there are some resources within the show notes.

Nadine is a mother who birthed her first baby free of the medical system. She’s also a triplet, which I thought was such a cool piece of information and had to mention it.
Nadine grew up in Grew up in Ghana from the age of 5, so the values of community living and nurturing were very present in her life. In this conversation, she speaks about:
*Taking on the role of helping tend to her elder brother’s child at the age of 10 as this is a normal display within Ghanian community structures
*Growing up and knowing that what she wanted was to be a mother and looking into ways that she could make this possible
*Knowing exactly what she wanted for herself and then meeting a partner that was on the same page
*Getting pregnant and sharing her desire to birth with only her partner present, which lead to some preparation through watching birth videos, listening to podcasts and self study
*Having an experience with a Medical Midwife where she was completely ignored when she spoke of her want to possibly have a birth free of the system
*Flying to the UK around 33 weeks and taking care of her pregnancy on her own
*Nadine speaks to how her birth brought some healing to her mother’s birth and experience after having her triplets
*Being emotionally and mentally supported by her cousin who had also birthed one of her babies free of the medical system
*Navigating an 18 hour birth portal
*and experiencing a bit of difficulty during breastfeeding that was easily remedied by some infant bodywork
This was such a simple and gentle experience where Nadine was able to be in her power and surrender into having the exact birth that she needed in-order to mother her child in the way he wanted to be mothered.

Today, I’m here with Anjelika and at the timing of our talk, she was 1 month postpartum with her free-born baby! She speaks to me about many things, one of which, is how important it is for her to pass down Ancestral Traditions to her children in many different ways.
In this very lovely and wholesome conversation, Anjelika speaks to:
*Her relationship to hunting and how it’s deepening the relationship she and her family have to the Earth, to their bodies, and to the animals
*Coming into her first pregnancy right at the end of 2019 and knowing that she needed to protect her and her baby from what was beginning to happen in the next year
*Choosing to have a Medical Midwife support her first birth experience, which was largely online and over the phone
*Having her trust be betrayed when her Medical Midwife stripped her membranes at 36 weeks without consent
*Feeling herself shift into the beginnings of her birth portal at 38weeks during her Mother Blessing
*Birthing with 11 people present in the home and it becoming a sort of community event, where Anjelika could re-write the image of birth for the many people witnessing
*Processing her birth experience and being encouraged by friends to not downplay the trauma that she did feel from certain points in the journey
*Experiencing a pregnancy release at 6 weeks
*Anjelika speaks to a mystical experience of hunting a deer 1 month before conceiving her daughter
*Deepening into this new phase of her Mothering and letting go of her Maiden self for good
*Feeling the sensations of birth starting at 34 weeks
*Trusting her body when pieces of her amniotic sac were retained within the womb and released over 1 week later
*and Enjoying a nourishing postpartum time
I’m so honoured I was able to hear Anjelika speak to her powerful birth experience only 1 month after her baby was born. Her words are so pure and so beautifully express this amazing and redemptive birth that she was able to have.

Today, I’m speaking with Brittney. She is a woman that is doing wonderful work in service to womb consciousness.
She has such a gentle, yet powerful and expansive presence when she speaks to the work that she does and this conversation truly lit me up as I’m also so devoted to working with the womb.
Within this conversation we get into:
*Brittney beginning to develop her relationship to the earth as a young girl
*Her journey into finding her spirituality
*Her first experience of attending a women’s circle
*Creating containers of healing for bi-racial women
*and speaking to how each woman has such a different process when it comes to holding space for their womb work
I won’t get too into it because this is a conversation that has to be heard from the portal of Brittney herself, so get comfortable and listen to her words.
I also want to mention that if you’re listening to this episode on or around Aug 23 2024, Britt has just opened registration for the 4th cohort of Wise Womb Ways. The theme of this cohort is the ‘Elements of the Womb’ and this will be a 6 week group immersion into Womb Awakening.
Class starts on the Autumnal Equinox — September 22 2024 and this might be the last time Britt hosts WWW in a live journey before turning it into a self paced program. So if you want to spend some time with Britt in a sacred container, now is your chance! You can find out how to join in the show notes.

Fina is a mother of twins! Another type of story that I love to share and wish to have more of as the women that are birthing multiples free of the medical system need to be heard, so I’m extremely grateful to have hosted Fina in the space.
Throughout the conversation Fina speaks to:
*Being “diagnosed” as infertile at 14
*Studying music in West Africa and the healing power that music and its vibrations have
*Experiencing an early pregnancy release at 11 weeks and seeking medical care, but then being traumatized by everything that she went through
*Two years later getting pregnant again and having a pregnancy mostly out of the medical system
*Hiring Medical support to attend her birth and making sure that there were boundaries and rules in place
*Fina speaks to her 27hour birth portal and how the Medical support interfered greatly with her process generating a lot on unnecessary fear and trauma
*Getting pregnant 5 months postpartum with twins and navigating feelings of depression
*Moving back in with her mother because Fina needed more support and care
*Having some bleeding during the pregnancy and seeking care in the hospital, which turned out to be a mistake
*Telling her partner that she’d be birthing the twins at home with no medical provider
*then birthing her twins at 39+1 gestation in only 3 hours
*Having such a drastically different and more beautiful postpartum time after the birth of her twins
*And lastly how Fina’s birth of her twins created the catalyst for change in her country to make it easier for women who want to birth free of the medical system from that point forward
Fina’s choice to birth her babies in her power brought her so much healing from the traumas that were inflicted on her by the medical system and a woman masquerading as someone who trusts birth. And Fina’s story is just another example of when a woman leans into her power, she will always make the right decisions for herself and her children.

Today, I’m speaking with Santhiya. Now, I must note that throughout this interview I had mispronounced her name. It is spelled and looks like “Santhiya”, but her name is Traditionally pronounced as, Sun-dhee-yah.
Getting into this conversation with Santhiya was really lovely, she spoke to me of first stepping into her mothering journey through being the eldest of 3 siblings. She used those experiences of being the kind of way shower for her younger siblings as a pseudo template to raising her own children.
Santhiya shares about:
*Getting pregnant with her first at 27 and not really having any consciousness to preparing for that experience
*Going through her pregnancy journey by ticking all the boxes and doing all the tests that the medical system had laid out for her
*Being belittled and bullied by her care provider to the point of leaving in tears after each appointment
*Feeling very alone, isolated and scared in her first postpartum time
*Getting pregnant 1.5 years after her first was born and choosing to use medical midwives instead of shared care within the hospital like last time
*Being threatened with an induction because Santhiya’s first baby was labelled with IUGR for being small, even though small babies are completely normal
*Finding Rebirthing Breath Work and how that changed Santhiya’s view and awareness on life
*Being surprised with a third baby and knowing that she would birth at home and have things be so much different from her first two births
*Using her breath work practices as guidance for her pregnancy journey free of the medical system
*Being divinely guided by Spirit and having full trust on this journey
*And having her 2 children and husband be the only people to witness this baby be born peacefully in the shower
This was such an awe inspiring and gentle conversation with Santhiya and I know you will glean something beautiful from her words.

Jenna is on the show today, another first time mother who made the choice to birth her baby free of the medical system and be supported by wise woman in her journey.
It took some time for Jenna to come into the acceptance that she would be a mother, around the 4.5/5 month mark is when it really started to sink in.
In this talk she speaks to:
*The intensity of emotions that she felt when she first got pregnant
*Being honest to the fact that the news of her pregnancy wasn’t a joyful time for her and how the emotions of fear and being upset is normal to feel at those times too
*Once coming to terms with the pregnancy, Jenna left Costa Rica for the US and found a birth centre in Texas to birth her baby, even though she felt like she was settling on her hopes to birth at home
*Around the 7month mark, Jenna found a Traditional Midwife in Costa Rica and made the choice to fly back to have her birth
*Leading up to her birth Jenna used affirmations and positive birth stories as a way was to feel settled into her birth space
*She experienced a gradual pull into the early stages of her birthing process
*Choosing to have cervical checks within her birth as a way to bring more clarity into where she was during her birth
*Laughing at the point of emergence of her baby
*And Jenna speaks to being labelled “high risk” just because of her weight, which is completely unnecessary
This is a very wholesome story to be heard, Jenna followed her heart and made the choice to birth in her power and was surrounded by a team of women who trusted her to do so.

Today, I have the honor of speaking with my friend from afar, NinNeru’aEl. We’ve known each other for quite a few years now and I’ve watched as NinNeru’aEl has blossomed into the woman that she is today. In this talk that we share together, I was so excited to hear of the story of her pregnancy and birth journey.
I also have to mention, we had such a fun time as she was telling her story, I think I laughed all the way throughout as it was so lighthearted and lovely to hear.
Here is what NinNeru’aEl speaks to:
*Having a very clear sign after facilitating an Ancestral Connections Talk at a Women’s Festival that she was ready to bring her daughter into the world
*Connecting to her daughter’s spirit with a Spirit Baby Medium
*When she finally got pregnant, NinNeru’aEl chose to move through her pregnancy completely free of the medical system
*How she navigated her food aversions within the first trimester
*Stepping into the practice of deep trust in her body
*Rage cleaning her kitchen at 2am while feeling early birthing sensations
*Giving gratitude to her body as the sensations began picking up
*Deepening into the birth experience after creating a cozy and safe space within her bathroom
*Finally birthing her baby onto the bathroom floor while being completely alone
*And navigating a painful to start breastfeeding relationship
This is such a fun story of a first time mother choosing what felt most aligned for her and her baby to come into the world and it’s one of those stories that cannot be missed.

I’m speaking with Alexandra and today’s conversation is about birth, but doesn’t involve her birth stories. We have a very compelling conversation about the work that Alexandra does in the world. We touch on:
*How Alexandra is a mother first, and a social scientist who has been doing her research on homebirth mothers, and Traditional Midwifery and it’s indigenous roots within Hawaii
* Alexandra is also a published author and has just recently finished her book, Back to the Womb - Reclaiming Birth Sovereignty, which is available for purchase and linked in the show notes
*She talks about her journey into doula work after having her first baby and what it was like giving her support to a mother birthing within the hospital system a few months after having her own home birth experience
*We get into how Alexandra choose her topic for dissertation — speaking about home birth mothers and Traditional Midwifery and why these women made the choices that they did
*We touch upon how Indigenous Hawaiian women have been systematically disconnected from their indigenous roots
*Alexandra speaks to the layers of trauma that the Indigenous Hawaiian women face while birthing within hospitals and some of the ways the Indigenous Midwives are trying to uphold their birthing traditions
*And we briefly touch on the importance of men in the birth space
This is such an interesting and eye opening conversation that I’m so grateful to be sharing in this space. And if you’re a woman who practices birthwork in a traditional way and would love to share your stories to uphold your traditions, please feel free to reach out to me.
Be sure to find Alexandra on Instagram at @AlexandraKisitu

On today’s episode I’m speaking with Bria. We start off our conversation on a very heartbreaking tone as Bria explains to me that at the very young age of 11 years old, she made the choice to mother herself and give herself the love and care that she wasn’t receiving from her family.
She had to step deeply into her maturation as a young girl to mother everyone else around her and is still working to pull those threads back to not give so much outwardly, but to give to herself more
*Bria speaks to how she always knew she wanted to have children
*She talks about how she had a complete change of lifestyle from partying all the time to slowing down and living more connected to the natural world in Grenada
*Meeting her partner and getting pregnant right away
*Having very unpleasant experiences with her Medical Midwives
*Being gaslit about how far she was within her birth process by medical staff at the hospital
*Having her baby be pulled from her body in an unnecessary forceps delivery and him having a lasting mark on his head to this day
*Being verbally abused by nursing staff during her early postpartum time
*Getting pregnant with her second baby and finding a mentor to support her on her journey to birthing free of the system
*Trying to check out of an Airbnb while being in her active birthing time
*Birthing her baby in a bathtub alone in that Airbnb
This is such a beautiful story and again another wonderful testament to the power of women and proof that birth just works.

This is another one of my favourite types of conversations, I’m speaking with first time mother Jaden, who birthed her baby free of the medical system and knew right away that this was the right choice for her and her baby
*Jaden speaks to me about the incredible connection that herself, her partner and their spirit baby had before he had come into his physical form
*She talks about the adventure of moving from one coast of the US to the other on almost a whim, but knew that she and her partner were being divinely guided by their child within the womb
*There was another piece of magic to Jaden’s story when she speaks to the perfect alignment of finding a Traditional Midwife to attend to her and how she was so well cared for in the weeks leading up to her birth portal
*Jaden speaks to a few struggles that she had as she adjusted to life as a new mother and how she navigated bouts of mastitis that made an appearance in her early postpartum days
*And lastly, Jaden shows us the most incredible painting on a canvas that she did before birthing and shares how it was that painting that held the energy of the birth she wanted and did create
This is a pregnancy and birth story that holds so much power and is absolutely one that I’m so grateful to be sharing as this journey is a true testimony to the innate and intuitive gift all women hold within them

Today’s episode is such a fun one. I’m speaking with Goddess Brittney King! She is a pleasure priestess and is doing such amazing work to raise the frequency of feminine energy on the planet.
In this incredible chat we get into speaking about:
*Her soul awakening where her body truly came alive and she had the opportunity to choose life or death
*Her experience in her first Sacred Temple - a pole dancing studio
*Brittney’s initiation into feeling her pleasure, taking this journey and welcoming being seen
*The realization of how she was performing the act of sex and not actually enjoying herself for her own pleasure
*How she started implementing her pleasure practices into everyday life
*Slowing down to receive more pleasure
*How Brittney came to leading her fist international ‘Full Body YES’ retreat
*Looking for awe and wonder in everyday life
*Brittney’s connection to her spirit baby and how I fit into the equation
*And Brittney speaks to the magic of co-creating her wedding with her wife and Spirit
This conversation, as I said was so fun to record. I have never had so many full body chills in an interview than I did when speaking with Brittney. And the main takeaway and what Brittney kept reminding me of and everyone who will be listening, is that this high frequency state of pleasure is available to all women, you just have to allow, accept and choose it for yourself.

Today in Lana’s stories she speaks to me about the births of all 4 of her children and how she began to realize that she absolutely could just birth her babies in the comfort of her own home with whomever she wanted present.
Lana first speaks to the difficulty of trying to get pregnant with her first baby, but how that created the space for her to get curious about how she was living her life and the things that were within it.
We get into speaking about:
*Her first baby where Lana was supported through the standardized model of medical midwifery in Canada
*The quick delivery of her son
*Her “slow” hemorrhage which she suspects was from overdoing Evening Primrose oil
*Her second pregnancy and birth once again within the medical system
*Her introduction to freebirth through a pregnant friend of hers that was planning to and had a freebirth
*Hiring a birthkeeper to attend to her younger children as she birthed her 3rd baby with her husband present
*Having her 3rd baby take around 9 minutes to transition into the world
*Having a miscarriage, which confirmed that a fourth baby was meant to be apart of their family
*Having a deep spiritual connection with this last baby and knowing very specific details about her and that she was in fact meant for this world
*And having this last baby come through in a very fast and furious way like she had seen in all her visions during pregnancy
All of Lana’s stories are so unique to her and show how confident she was in her body and that by listening to herself and her baby, she was able, like all women, to just birth in a free, gentle and safe way.

Today, I’m speaking with April, another woman who chose to birth free of the medical system with her first child. I absolutely love these stories and I mention it often because it goes to show that you do not have to have your first baby in the hospital “just in case” or so you can “know what it’s like”.
On April’s journey to birthing free, she hit a few speed bumps when she was at first looking for a medical provider:
*She wasn’t accepted into any midwifery groups due to a lack of insurance
*She finally found a medical midwife that would take her without insurance, but was then ghosted by her
* And when she finally found a birth centre to birth at, she was risked out of their care after they diagnosed her with gestational diabetes even though she had the deep feeling that her baby was perfectly okay
After all of that, April stuck to her original decision to birth her baby at home with her husband and in an almost non-eventful birth experience, April birthed her son freely into her mother’s hands.
Then feeling so excited about the experience of doing it herself, April was ready, right away, to bring another child into the world. After almost 3 years of time, April did get pregnant with her daughter, but not before experiencing an early pregnancy release that she handled at home.
This is a very beautiful story of April’s trust in her natural instincts and the fact that her body is perfectly made to birth her babies.

Abby chose to birth her first baby in a birthing centre with medical midwives. Her prenatal visits were pretty run of the mill for that type of pregnancy surveying and Abby ended up having quite a straightforward birth.
Things didn’t get messy until right after the birth of her daughter where she immediately went floppy. The medical midwives assessed Abby’s baby and called for EMS to take the child to the nearest NICU. Abby was left alone at the birthing centre with only her mother and doula to tend to her while her husband left to the hospital with the baby.
During the 2 weeks of Abby’s daughter being in the NICU, she underwent a D&C to remove a piece of retained placenta. She wasn’t able to hold her daughter for her first 5 days of life and was obviously unprepared for something like this to happen, which led her to her having a severe bout of postpartum depression once she was able to bring her daughter home.
Abby chose to have her second and third births within the hospital, where she was also diagnosed with gestational diabetes. These births were again, pretty okay, but not exactly what she was looking for.
Felling there was one last baby that was wanting to come through, Abby was committed to listening to her intuition and truly having this birth in the way she wanted.
She got connected with some women via Facebook groups about birthing free of the medical system and that was the spark she needed to make the choice for having the birth that she always wanted.

I hope you didn’t think that the Season 2 Trailer was the only episode that I’d be releasing today. I was originally going to wait until next week to release this beautiful piece of story medicine, but then thought, no, I have to get Amalya’s words out right away.
So today, in the first birth story of Season 2 for the Freebirthing in Color™ Movement, you’ll be listening to Amalya’s journey into the motherhood of 2 daughters over a 12 year transformational span of time.
Amalya, a half Javanese woman, started her journey into motherhood when she was 24 years old. Living the lifestyle of a traveller and jewellery maker in India, she met a man a fell pregnant soon after. Cutting her travels short, Amalya and the baby’s father traveled back to Australia where she then entered the mainstream model of medical midwifery care.
Amalya’s birth of her first daughter was pretty straight forward and didn’t include huge accounts of trauma. Although there were some unfortunate experiences when she was unceremoniously jabbed with pitocin and had her placenta forcefully removed from her body, which also left a piece stuck inside her for a week.
After the birth of her first child, going back to living the traveling lifestyle and navigating a rocky relationship, Amalya made the choice to do things differently. This lead her on an intense and heart opening journey of finding herself again, listening to her intuitive knowing and tapping back into her internal compass to then be able to open herself up to hold another child within her womb.
This is such a big story with many parts to its, so I will let Amalya share in her own words how she went on the journey of a lifetime in the 12 years between her two babies.

This is the last episode in Season 1 of the Freebirthing in Color™ Movement and today I have a beautiful conversation with Veladya.
We get into speaking about her first pregnancy that started off in the care of an OB and Medical Midwife, but after the first few routine appointments with the OB, Veladya felt that there was something lacking from the care she was receiving.
Veladya then attended a mother’s retreat in the Caribbean at 27 weeks pregnant and was opened up to the idea of birthing free of the medical system.
With that planned intention of birthing at home, 3 days had passed and the energy in Veladya’s birth space shifted. She ended up making the choice to get checked at the hospital with the hopes of signing herself out after assessment to continue birthing at home.
Things didn’t turn out the way they were originally planned and Veladya birthed Aura in hospital and then on top of that had to deal with interactions from CPS for 6 weeks into her postpartum time. All of the CPS stress was completely unnecessary and in my opinion, has a large part to do with the fact that Veladya and her partner are people of color.
Their treatment was unjust and racially fuelled, but I will let Veladya speak to those moments in her story. And now as Veladya prepares for her second baby to be born the lessons that she learned from her first birth have well equipped her for her second.
And lastly, submissions are always open for you to speak within this movement. If you want to share you birth story on a platform that celebrates you for who you are and the birth choices you’ve made, please reach out to me or fill out the submission form. All information can be found within the show notes below!

In this episode, I speak with Aissatou. She’s a first time mother that knew having her baby free of the medical system was the best option.
Aissatou started her journey of self reclamation in 2019 when she and her partner removed her IUD, just the two of them, in the comfort of their home.
A few years later, when finding out she was pregnant, Aissatou began down the path of self acceptance and being okay with who she was and where she was going within this new place in life.
She connected and listened to her intuition throughout her pregnancy and made the conscious choice to be as stress free as possible.
Taking her prenatal care into her own hands, Aissatou used movement, baking and psychedelic mushrooms to guide her in an easeful way from pregnancy to her birthing time.
This is a very simple and easy story of a first time mother who trusted in herself and had the loving support of her partner to navigate an experience that is, in the mainstream regarded as a highly dangerous and a medical event.
Aissatou is a beautiful example of how pregnancy and birth doesn’t need to be complicated and when following your wants and needs everything can just be as it is.
And once again, I want to say that submissions are always open for you to speak within this movement. If you are an Indigenous Woman or a Woman of Color and have wanted to share you birth story on a platform that celebrates you for who you are and the birth choices you’ve made, please reach out to me or fill out the submission form at PrimalWomanPortal.com/Movement
It only takes a few minutes and I’m always looking for mothers to share their birth stories or women who are working within the field of the Female Continuum to share their work. All information can be found within the show notes below!
