For a band that comes out of New Jersey, The Vaughns have nearly perfected the upbeat indie sound that would fit in perfectly here on the California Pacific Coast. Having all known each other throughout their small town in the Garden State, members David Cacciatore, Anna Lies, Ryan Kenter, and Tom Losito inevitably came together, after years of knowing each other from school, jobs, and music, and started to play music in Ryan’s garage that would turn into the project we hear now. This is “50%”, one of the lead singles that comes from The Vaughns’ debut album, FOMO, which was released everywhere last Friday. Remarked in a press release by vocalist Anna Lies as an album that is “about the transition period between exiting college, and entering adulthood.” You can hear their growing pains throughout these eleven songs; not the growing pains as musicians, but as people entering the next stage of life, and genuinely trying to figure out how to navigate things. Just a few weeks ago, I spoke with David and Ryan about the making of the album, how the band came together, and what their debut album represents thematically. The Vaughns' debut album, FOMO, is available now. Episode 133: DGTL CLR
Within the last ten years, electronic music has fallen into somewhat of a bubble. It’s fallen into a bubble of misconception, that electronic musicians are only DJs, that they don’t write their own songs, that they don’t have any further aspirations except pressing a button and letting the track play. But within the last couple of years, that has started to shift. Artists have been bringing more and more physical gear on stage, with acts like deadmau5, Porter Robinson, Gryffin and many others trying to break this stigma. One artist in particular, Los Angeles’ DGTL CLR (real name Devereaux Jennings), could very well be among the likes of these artists. Taking inspiration from the sounds of 90s synth-wave music, pop, instrumental music, and the recent brand of electronic music that’s been dominating the airwaves these last several years, Jennings has been working to make a name for himself. The song featured is "Sandra", from DGTL CLR's newest release, Tetra, available now. You can follow DGTL CLR at the following links: Website: www.dgtlclr.com Facebook: www.facebook.com/dgtlclr Twitter: @DGTLCLR Be sure to follow Shameless SF, the site that hosts this podcast, at the following links as well (and subscribe here on iTunes): Website: www.shamelesspromo.net Facebook: www.facebook.com/shamelesssf Twitter: @SFShameless
