Story Transcript:

En: The annual fall period meant a fiery time for local elections, and this time it was special for Kaarel.

En: For the first time in his life, nervously waiting to use his right to vote, he stepped into the community center.

Et: Keskus oli tulvil inimesi.
En: The center was bustling with people.

En: Warm, orange, and yellow decorations, with pumpkins and leaves hanging on the walls, reminded them of the upcoming Halloween and created a buzz.

Et: Kaarel piilus uudistavalt eemal asuvaid ridu.
En: Kaarel curiously peeked at the distant lines.

En: People were in costumes, sometimes quite comical, which confused him even more.

En: Maarika, his friend and a politics enthusiast, had talked about how important it is to vote, and Kaarel didn't want to let her down.

Et: Ta otsustas astuda lähimasse järjekorda.
En: He decided to step into the nearest line.

En: The people there were pleasant and smiling, so Kaarel believed he was on the right path.

Et: Järjekord liikus aeglaselt edasi ja hoolimata natuke närvilisest ootamisest, tundis Kaarel suurt motivatsiooni jääda paigale.
En: The line moved slowly, and despite the slightly nervous waiting, Kaarel felt a great motivation to stay put.

En: But when he finally showed his invitation card to the girl standing opposite him, he was handed a pumpkin-shaped cake instead.

Et: Kaarel oli hämmingus.
En: Kaarel was bewildered.

Et: "Mis see on?
En: "What is this?

Et: Kus on minu hääletussedel?"
En: Where is my ballot?"

Et: mõtles ta.
En: he thought.

En: Then it hit him—he had spent half an hour waiting in line for Sunday cakes!

En: The clock was ticking late, and the fear of not making it to vote pushed him to hurry.

Et: Kaarel pani koogi ruttu taskusse ja pani jooksu, aimates, kuhu tegelik valimisjärjekord võiks jääda.
En: Kaarel quickly stuffed the cake into his pocket and ran, guessing where the actual voting line might be.

Et: Tema süda peksles kiiresti.
En: His heart raced fast.

En: Maneuvering through the decorations and surrounding people, he finally found the right place.

En: Reaching the last voter before the polling station...
