Story Transcript:

En: The autumn day was cold, and the scent of fallen leaves lingered in the air.

En: People were gathering at the local polling station, with the undulating crowd waiting for their opportunity to influence the community's future.

Cs: U zadní části fronty stál Vladislav, přičemž neustále kontroloval, zda mu neuplá stužka ze šály.
En: At the back of the queue stood Vladislav, constantly checking to make sure the ribbon on his scarf hadn't slipped.

Cs: Vedle něj povzdechla Katerina, dívajíc se kolem s lehkou nedůvěrou.
En: Next to him, Katerina sighed, looking around with slight distrust.

Cs: „Proč sem chodíme?
En: "Why do we come here?"

En: she asked, her teeth chattering a bit from the cold.

Cs: „Můj hlas nic nezmění.
En: "My vote won't change anything."

Cs: “„Katerino,“ odpověděl Vladislav laskavě, „každý hlas má smysl.
En: "Katerina," Vladislav answered kindly, "every vote matters.

Cs: Pamatuješ si tu rozbitou lavičku v parku?
En: Do you remember the broken bench in the park?

Cs: Tehdy jsme dali dohromady naše hlasy a požádali o její opravu.
En: We pooled our voices together then and requested for it to be repaired."

En: Katerina muttered under her breath, "That was a bench, this is something big."

Cs: “Před nimi stál Marek, který rozdával informační letáky.
En: In front of them stood Marek, handing out informational leaflets.

Cs: Byl to místní dobrovolník, vždy připravený sloužit své komunitě.
En: He was a local volunteer, always ready to serve his community.

En: "The action of one might be small, but when we come together, important things can change," Marek spoke with a smile when he noticed their conversation.

Cs: Vladislav cítil, že musí Katerinu lépe oslovit.
En: Vladislav felt he needed to reach Katerina better.

Cs: Rozhodl se tedy sdílet příběh z vlastní zkušenosti.
En: So, he decided to share a story from his own experience.

Cs: „Před lety jsme měli problém s kanalizací.
En: "Years ago, we had an issue with the sewer system.

Cs: Bylo to velmi špatné, hodně obyvatel se stěžovalo.
En: It was very bad, a lot of residents complained.

En: But then we united, we voted on it, and soon after, the sewer system was repaired.

Cs: To změnilo náš každodenní život.
En: That changed our daily life."

Cs: “Jak Vladislav mluvil, zazněl hlas z reproduktoru.
En: As Vladislav spoke, a voice came over the loudspeaker.

Cs: „Vážení občané, rádi bychom oznámili, že naše iniciativa na vytvoření nového komunitního centra získala podporu!
En: "Dear citizens, we would like to announce that our initiative to create a new community center has gained support!

Cs: Děkujeme všem, kteří se zapojili.
En: Thank you to everyone who got involved."
