Will started in film in 2012 in Cape Town. Where he worked on short films, music videos and feature films, having the luck to work with Hollywood A listers such as Sean Penn and Charlie Theron. On returning to Zimbabwe he has had the honour of working on the first Zimbabwean film on Netflix, as well as shooting music videos for the likes of Amara Brown, and TV commercials for companies like Econet.

Our next guest is the multitalented actor Tendai Chitima. She has landed lead and supporting roles on several drama series on SABC 1, 2 & 3, EbonyLife TV and Mzansi Magic in South Africa. One defining moment in her career was being cast as lead for the 2017 Zimbabwean independent film, The Cook Off directed by Tomas Brickhill. The film was well received and officially selected as part of the International Film Festival of Rotterdam 2018 and Seattle Film Festival 2018 and others. Tendaiishe won Best Actress at the Zimbabwe International Film Festival in 2018 for her role in Cook Off. She has also worked as a TV host and Brand Ambassador; and has a passion for literary arts.

Our Next Guest is Nakai Matema. 

Nakai is a veteran Zimbabwean Producer whose filmography eclipses all other contemporary Zimbabwean filmmakers. Since the 1990s she has been involved with and worked for various film organisations that have mapped the local Zimbabwean film industry including the Southern Africa Film Festival (SAFF), Framework International and Ice Films.

She coordinated the feature film Flame that screened at the Cannes Director’s Fortnight, and produced several ground-breaking documentaries including Rehad Desai’s My Land, My Life and Leo Phiri’s A Fighting Spirit from the STEPS for the Future series.

She was instrumental in the establishment and growth of the Zimbabwe International Film Festival Trust (ZIFFT) where she became Executive Director in 2008. While at ZIFFT she ran the iconic Short Film Project (SFP). During her tenure, she produced over 30 films from emerging filmmakers and continues to produce cutting edge films and to develop Zimbabwean filmmaking talent. Films she produced at SFP have been nominated for the African Movie Academy Awards and won a string of Zimbabwean National Arts Merit Awards. Talented alumni of the Short Film Project include Marian Kunonga, Rumbi Katedza, Tongayi Chirisa, Tafadzwa Njovana, Joe Njagu and Ben Mahaka.

On the Premier episode of The #FilmFridayPodcast, our guest is none other that Joe Njagu. Joe is the producer of  Cookout, the first Zimbabwean film on Netflix. His other film, The Gentlemen won  Best Foreign Language Director at the America International Film Festival and Best Film at the NAMA awards in 2012!  In this episode, Munya and Joe dive into his career as he talks us through his journey through film.

Our next guest is Lindi Mugwara. Lindi is a filmmaker based in Harare. She has worked on array of projects, from documentaries, television series, to feature films. She has collaborated with some of Zimbabwe's heavy hitters in the industry, namely Joe Njagu, Rumbi Katedza, Nakai Matema, to name a few. Her latest venture is a short film entitled, Highway Black where she serves as co- producer and editor.

Trevor has gone on on to produce and direct a notable roll of tv talk shows,lifestyle magazine programs, documentaries as well as music videos for African television networks such as DSTV and a variety of national and digital broadcasters.

Our next guest is the founder of Ibhayisikopo Film Project and accomplished documentarian, Priscilla Sithole Ncube as she talks us through starting a film project designed to uplift young women in the industry, documentary filmmaking and what needs to be done to create an equal playing field for women in film.

Our next guest is manager of CMedia Africa Tsitsi Grace Madoda as she talks us, amongst other things, through what it takes to start a production house in Zimbabwe and how one goes about managing it.
