Fiber Talk with Loetitia Gibier, Korry’s Little Shop
Our guest this week is gold work/stumpwork/cross stitch artist Loetitia Gibier of Korry’s Little Shop. The show is sponsored by Avlea Folk Embroidery at avleafolkembroidery.com. Please support our sponsors. Loetitia is a talented needlework artist who does a lot of stunning gold work, even though she doesn’t care for the gold color. In our conversation we learn how she developed her skills, how she approaches her design work, and what she means when Loetitia says she is more of a technician than an artist. We also learn how Celtic folklore led to her nickname and the name of her shop. Be sure to check out her website and social media channels. We also appreciate if if you support our sponsor, Avlea Folk Embroidery, and consider becoming a Fiber Talk Patreon member at Patreon.com/Fiber Talk.–Gary Listen to the podcast: Watch the video You can listen by using the player above or you can subscribe to Fiber Talk through iTunes, Amazon Music, Spotify, Audible, Google Podcasts, TuneIn, Podbay, and Podbean. Fiber Talk Midweek Chat, 8-13-25
The “W” day has arrived and Cindy and Gary gathered to talk about Iowa State Fair results (lots of ribbons) and becoming a Fiber Talk Patreon subscriber. We also discuss analyzing a design and determining whether to stitch all of it or to modify it to make it the design you want. Then we move on to the process of selecting threads/colors for a project and learn that, basically, Gary needs to sit down and organize his threads so he can assemble the needed colors without spending hours hunting for what may or may not be in the stash. Fiber Talk
Fiber Talk with Sue Reed II
It’s been a couple of years since we talked with Sue Reed and it was a real treat to have her return. The show is made possible by CyberPointers, the online chapter of the American Needlepoint Guild at cyberpointers.org. Sue Reed is one of the premier counted-canvas designers in the business and it was great fun to discuss the current state of counted-canvas designing/teaching and gain some insight into her design approach and what it’s like to prepare for classes and national seminars. As an added bonus, Sue generously spent some extra time with us to record a Patreon video, discuss her Garden Path design, and compare it with Cindy’s version. To see that video, become a Patreon member at Patreon.com/FiberTalk.–Cindy and Gary Listen to the podcast: Watch the video You can listen by using the player above or you can subscribe to Fiber Talk through iTunes, Amazon Music, Spotify, Audible, Google Podcasts, TuneIn, Podbay, and Podbean. Fiber Talk
Fiber Talk with Kirstie Macleod, The Red Dress
The Red Dress project, created and developed by this week’s guest, Kirstie Macleod, can, at first, look like little more than a beautiful dress, embellished by a lot of colorful embroidery. If you spend more than 30 sec. exploring this project, you will quickly discover that the dress is a powerful symbol of what people of all kinds and from many cultures have experienced in their lives, many of those experiences worse than you can imagine. In this week’s conversation, we are privileged to hear the story of the Red Dress and, I hope, like me, you will be moved by what Kirstie has provided for us. Enjoy the story, share it with others, and consider buying the book about the project. It’s a good one. Kirstie will be back sometime in late August or early September to tell us about how the dress was created and how she incorporated so much embroidery from so many people.–Gary Listen to the podcast: Watch the video You can listen by using the player above or you can subscribe to Fiber Talk through iTunes, Amazon Music, Spotify, Audible, Google Podcasts, TuneIn, Podbay, and Podbean. Fiber Talk
Fiber Talk with Jessica Jane Pile and Robert Ossant
This week we travel to the world of Haute Couture in a conversation with couture historian Robert Ossant and embroidery artist and interior designer Jessica Jane Pile. They have combined their vast knowledge, experience, and talents to write an upcoming book, “The Art of Couture,” available Nov. 2025. You can pre-order it now from the usual book sources. It’s a unique publication that provides an excellent history of several famous and upcoming design houses, combined with stitching instructions that will enable you to implement couture designs and techniques in your own needlework. In addition to the expected tambour work, there is a dress made with canvas and one with feathers. We learn a lot about high fashion and the book will make a fine addition to your needlework library.–Gary Listen to the podcast: Watch the video You can listen by using the player above or you can subscribe to Fiber Talk through iTunes, Amazon Music, Spotify, Audible, Google Podcasts, TuneIn, Podbay, and Podbean. Fiber Talk
Fiber Talk with Alissa Cook, Alissa Cook Photoembroidery
Alissa Cook takes embroidery to a new level by combining it with beautiful nature photography to create truly unique needle art. This week’s show is sponsored by the Embroiderers’ Guild of America at egausa.org. Alissa Cook is a talented photographer and embroiderer who decided to combine those two art forms to find a new level of art. It took considerable determination, much trial and error, and honest feedback from artist friends to develop her techniques. In our conversation, we learn how this approach came together and how Alissa gets her photos from camera to linen to stitched pieces that are admired in galleries. Her most-recent exhibition was a combined effort with Elizabeth Sullivan, our May 18 guest. Enjoy the conversation then follow Alissa on her Instagram account to fully appreciate her art.–Cindy and Gary Listen to the podcast: Watch the video You can listen by using the player above or you can subscribe to Fiber Talk through iTunes, Amazon Music, Spotify, Audible, Google Podcasts, TuneIn, Podbay, and Podbean. Fiber Talk with Hannah Arnold, Sherwood Forest Embroidery
Hannah Arnold creates new embroidery designs in a beautiful building her husband built entirely of reclaimed materials. In this week’s show, sponsored by the Embroiderers’ Guild of America, we learn about that she shed and the inspirational environment it provides and how Hannah transitioned from a career as a physical therapist to full-time embroidery designer and teacher. Hannah has a unique approach in that she provides her instructions as videos instead of written word. She has a fascinating second aspect of her business. She stitches bespoke replicas of wedding bouquets to provide brides with long-term memories and to challenge her stitching skills. She has a unique style and puts a much-needed focus on young stitchers.
