March 2025 marks the 30th anniversary of Chrono Trigger, the first collaboration of Square and Enix, one of the greatest JRPGs ever made, and yet somehow this game is still not profitable to make a sequel to.



We discuss a lot about this game. Why it’s one of the better implementations of ATB. Why its time travel mechanics make sense and FFXIII-2’s do not. Why BlueHighwind is bad at games and can’t beat Radiant Historia, one of the dozens of games directly influenced by Chrono Trigger. Final Fantasy XVI has a second round of DLC, Rising Tide. (AKA: ROLL TIDE!) We can finally close the book on a game that… existed. Cannot really call it “beloved”, at least not by this crowd. It was definitely a complete product with a beginning, middle, and ending. It had… moments. Some of them were decent. So in the end… it was a game. Definitely a game.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has been out for a month, which is just long enough to actually finish the dang thing. It’s a big, big game. And there’s a million things to talk about, from romance to sidequests to music to open world design to everything. This is an incredible game and surprisingly, even the wiki resident Oldhead Hater, had a great time. This podcast includes spoilers up to everything up until Chapter 14, the big ending spoilers will be covered in another show.
