Why is fashion so bad for the environment?

According to the United Nations Environment Program, fashion accounts for up to 10% of global carbon dioxide output, which is more than international flights and shipping combined. Up to 100 billion garments are produced by the fashion industry every year. And each year, as much as 92 million tonnes of clothing ends up in landfill. Only 20% of textiles are collected for reuse and recycling globally, and almost 60% of all clothing material is actually made of plastic. So fashion is also responsible for 1/5 of the 300 million tonnes of plastic produced each year.

There’s a lot more shocking stats like this, and we wanted to understand why.

In this episode we chat to 3 incredible industry experts who are innovating in this space to drive change.

Our Experts

  • Julie Willoughby, Executive at Circ (https://circ.earth/)
  • David McLean, Founder at Hubbed (https://hubbed.com/)
  • Belinda Paul, Founder at RCYCL (https://rcycl.com.au/)

You’ll learn

  1. How materials are constructed and how they’ve evolved
  2. How to dispose of clothes you no longer wear
  3. Why last mile delivery needs a shake up
