Title: Faithful, Creative, Hopeful: Fifteen Theses for Christians in a Crisis-Shaped World Author: Jesse A. Zink Narrator: Brandon Pollock Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 6 hours 20 minutes Release date: December 3, 2024 Genres: Christianity Publisher's Summary: An urgent argument for the centrality of Christian witness in the world. The world is changing rapidly. Between climate change, an unequal economic system, and widespread human migration, our societies are under stress and strain like never before. And just at the moment when the world needs to hear good news, many people perceive the Christian church as too old, tired, or out-of-touch to respond. In Faithful, Creative, Hopeful, Jesse Zink demonstrates the importance of the Christian gospel and its witness to the flourishing of human societies. Zink offers fifteen theses—echoing those of the church reformers—that together offer a vision for a renewed faith and a renewed church in this crisis-shaped world. From the future of the Eucharist to the nature of Christian hope, from the challenges of neoliberal capitalism to the joys of local community, Zink skillfully weaves together theology, Scripture, liturgy, congregational ministry, and on-the-ground experience of church in a variety of contexts to provoke, motivate, and challenge Christians to renew their ministry and live our mission in a changing and challenging world.

Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl by Harriet Ann Jacobs
Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/1/audiobook/829040 to listen full audiobooks. Title: Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl Author: Harriet Ann Jacobs Narrator: Rick Walz Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 7 hours 2 minutes Release date: October 16, 2024 Genres: Current Affairs, Law, & Politics Publisher's Summary: Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, written by herself is an autobiography by Harriet Ann Jacobs, a young mother and fugitive slave, published in 1861 by L. Maria Child, who edited the book for its author. Jacobs used the pseudonym Linda Brent. The book documents Jacobs's life as a slave and how she gained freedom for herself and for her children. Jacobs contributed to the genre of slave narrative by using the techniques of sentimental novels 'to address race and gender issues.' She explores the struggles and sexual abuse that female slaves faced on plantations as well as their efforts to practice motherhood and protect their children when their children might be sold away. In the book, Jacobs addresses white Northern women who fail to comprehend the evils of slavery. She makes direct appeals to their humanity to expand their knowledge and influence their thoughts about slavery as an institution. Jacobs began composing Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl after her escape to New York, while living and working at Idlewild, the Hudson River home of writer and publisher Nathaniel Parker Willis. Portions of her journals were published in serial form in the New-York Tribune, owned and edited by Horace Greeley. Jacobs's reports of sexual abuse were deemed too shocking for the average newspaper reader of the day, and publication ceased before the completion of the narrative. Notable works Harriet Ann Jacobs: Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl (1861).

Your Jesus Is Too American: Calling the Church to Reclaim Kingdom Values over the American Dream by Steve Bezner
Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/1/audiobook/818074 to listen full audiobooks. Title: Your Jesus Is Too American: Calling the Church to Reclaim Kingdom Values over the American Dream Author: Steve Bezner Narrator: James R. Cheatham Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 7 hours 28 minutes Release date: October 8, 2024 Genres: Christianity Publisher's Summary: The American church faces a discipleship crisis. Instead of following the values of Jesus, many Christians are chasing after what our culture prizes: power, money, and political influence. In Your Jesus Is Too American, Baptist pastor Steve Bezner invites Christians to rediscover what Jesus treasured and incorporate those kingdom values into the church's witness. With a pastoral voice, Bezner shares the lessons he has been teaching in his church community for eleven years—humble service rather than worldly success, healing relationships across religious and ethnic divides, repairing harm against marginalized groups, giving generously, and providing a political witness rooted in the local church. Bezner shows that Jesus's vision of discipleship points the way toward a different way of being in the world. The book offers a welcome perspective for church leaders and congregants alike who are frustrated with the way many churches pursue values that are not in line with Jesus's teachings and are worried about the American church's credibility crisis. It includes a foreword by Beth Moore.

Facial recognition firms track citizens for police surveillance. Cryptocurrency has wiped out the savings of millions and threatens the stability of the global financial system. This new reality—where unregulated technology has become a forceful instrument for autocrats worldwide—is terrible news for democracies and citizens. In The Tech Coup, Marietje Schaake explains how technology companies crept into nearly every corner of our lives and our governments. She takes us beyond the headlines to high-stakes meetings with human rights defenders, business leaders, computer scientists, and politicians to show how technologies have gone from being heralded as utopian to undermining the pillars of our democracies. To reverse this existential power imbalance, Schaake outlines solutions to empower elected officials and citizens alike. Democratic leaders can—and must—resist the influence of corporate lobbying and reinvent themselves as dynamic, flexible guardians of our digital world. Schaake offers a frightening look at our modern tech-obsessed world—and a clear-eyed view of how democracies can build a better future before it is too late.

Title: Amy Foster Author: Joseph Conrad Narrator: Mark Rice-Oxley Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 1 hour 23 minutes Release date: September 9, 2024 Genres: Mystery Publisher's Summary: Joseph Conrad was born on 3rd December 1857 in Berdychiv in the Ukraine, then part of the Russian Empire. His birthplace had been part of Poland which its neighbours dismembered into their own Empires.Conrad’s early years were spent in constant movement, his father was politically active and frequently in trouble trying to help re-ignite a Polish state which meant arrests and exile and the young Conrad himself suffered from ill-health, spending a year at a retreat in Kyiv recovering. By 11 he was orphaned. His education was mainly private and although he was a voracious reader, he was a poor academic student. Now, being raised by an uncle who wanted Conrad to have a worthwhile job, it was hoped that a merchant-marine career might bring out the best of him.At 16 he was sent to Marseille to embark on that adventure. Conrad himself was determined to be both a sailor and a great writer.Life on board a ship was full of adventures and experiences which included gun-running and close quarter encounters with political conspiracies.By his mid 30’s Conrad had returned to shore permanently to add his prodigious literary talents to full time writing. Although he wrote with a comprehensive command in English his spoken English was often cited as ‘horrible’. He was now also a British Citizen. Conrad brought to English Literature both narrative mastery, compelling prose and fully formed characters as well as a deeper examination of the human psyche in a wealth of work. He wrote many novels, short stories, nonfiction, and memoirs which are rightly regarded today as some of the finest in English literature. Jospeh Conrad died on the 3rd August 1924 at Bishopsbourne, Kent in England. He was 66.

Hope I Get Old Before I Die: Why rock stars never retire by David Hepworth
Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/1/audiobook/705353 to listen full audiobooks. Title: Hope I Get Old Before I Die: Why rock stars never retire Author: David Hepworth Narrator: David Hepworth Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 10 hours 43 minutes Release date: September 5, 2024 Ratings: Ratings of Book: 5 of Total 1 Genres: World Publisher's Summary: Brought to you by Penguin. From the author of Abbey Road comes the story of how enduring rock icons like Pink Floyd, Bruce Springsteen and many more have remained in the ever changing music game. When Paul McCartney closed Live Aid in July 1985 we thought he was rock's Grand Old Man. He was forty-three years old. As the forty years since have shown he - and many others of his generation - were just getting started. This was the time when live performance took over from records. The big names of the 60s and 70s exploited the age of spectacle that Live Aid had ushered in to enjoy the longest lap of honour in the history of humanity, continuing to go strong long after everyone else had retired. Hence this is a story without precedent, a story in which Elton John plays a royal funeral, Mick Jagger gets a knighthood, Bob Dylan picks up the Nobel Prize, the Beatles become, if anything, bigger than the Beatles and it's beginning to look as though all of the above will, thanks to the march of technology, be playing Las Vegas for ever. ©2024 David Hepworth (P)2024 Penguin Audio

May these bridges we call words bring you the comfort your soul longs for, let their beat carry you back to your innate wholeness, one that your heart knows so well. They will guide you gently into a silent awakening, to a deeper truth, to a much more meaningful life experience, every time you are open enough to receive it. In the deep knowing that it no longer belongs to me, I open my hands and set it free, so that it can become all that it can be, to all those who might feel the calling to, more than read it, fully experience it. May my loving embrace, in every word, gently guide you back home.

Title: Scandal Wears Satin Series: #2 of Dressmakers Author: Loretta Chase Narrator: Kate Reading Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 10 hours 30 minutes Release date: August 27, 2024 Genres: Historical Publisher's Summary: New York Times bestselling author Loretta Chase follows her historical romance gem, Silk is for Seduction (nominated for 2011 Romantic Times Reviewer's Choice Award for Best Regency-Set Historical Romance) with yet another winner. This time, Scandal Wears Satin, as the second sister from a somewhat scandalous aristocratic family—the purveyors of one of London's most fashionable shops—finds passion and a love as sumptuous as the gorgeous gowns she creates. Superstar romance author Susan Elizabeth Phillips says Loretta Chase has 'a rare talent for creating crackling sexual tension and characters so fresh and compelling that readers won't be able to forget them.' Chase fans, as well as Stephanie Laurens and Julia Quinn listeners, will most assuredly agree—especially when they meet feisty Sophy and the rakish earl whose help (and heart) she enlists in order to win the patronage of a dowager lady. Contains mature themes.
