Per sciogliere l'enigma del thriller, Serino dovrà scoperchiare e far uscire il marcio che dimora in organizzazioni apparentemente insospettabili, travestite da finalità umanitarie. Questa volta Serino dovrà spostarsi fino in Marocco per scoprire il colpevole.

Der Fickel steht als Rechtsanwalt am Meininger Gericht auf der Karriereleiter ganz unten. Er ist Terminvertreter (im Fachjargon "Terminhure") und springt in Verhandlungen ein, wenn der "richtige" Anwalt verhindert ist. Dass so einer Verteidiger in einem Mordverfahren wird, kann nur in einem Nest wie Meiningen passieren: Sylvia Kminikowski, designierte Amtsgerichtsdirektorin, wird ermordet im Englischen Garten aufgefunden. DNA-Spuren führen zu René Schmidtkonz, dem Enkel von Fickels Vermieterin.

Also gibt der Fickel sich einen Ruck und vergräbt sich in den Fall. Obwohl er sich im Strafrecht nicht besonders gut auskennt, stößt er schon bald auf Ungereimtheiten, die seinen Mandanten entlasten könnten. Ein massives Problem jedoch bleibt: die Oberstaatsanwältin Gundelwein, die im Allgemeinen auf Männer nicht gut zu sprechen ist und im Besonderen auf den Fickel. Sie ist Fickels Exfrau und sähe nichts in der Welt lieber, als dass er sich in seinem ersten großen Fall bis auf die Knochen blamiert...
