Mending Broken Trust
Trust is like a mirror. You can fix it when it's broken but you can still the cracks in the reflection. If you built trust with your employees, then there is a chance you can break it as well. But how can you regain that trust if you break it?Today, I talk about how trust affects the performance of your employees. I explain why trust is so important, and provide an example of how easy it is to break that trust. I share some of the steps you can take to rebuild your employee's trust. I also note the different types of trust you have in the workplace.“We have to train others to take our positions instead of seeing them as our competition. Using this approach to build competence shows the team that you trust them to do just as good a job as you.”- Murtaza Versi“Trust is more like a rubber band than a mirror. EQ Is A Trainable Superpower. Here’s How-PT2
As we discussed last week, there are three key steps to training and strengthening your emotional intelligence as well as the emotional intelligence of others. Step two in the journey to improving your EQ is to take a good, hard look at your ability to be emotionally empathetic toward others. According to Dr. Daniel Goleman, emotional empathy is when you feel physically aligned with another person – as if their emotions are contagious. It’s when you feel a deeper connection with another person’s feelings. This week, I explain what emotional empathy means and how it helps you improve your emotional intelligence. I discuss how emotional empathy helps us build deeper connections with the people around us and how asking your team to join a shared charity, cause, or community project can help strengthen their emotional empathy. I highlight how encouraging your team to spend time in less-formal, 1-to-1 settings focused on building their relationships with others can help improve their emotional empathy for the people they work with. I also explain why it’s essential for leaders to listen to their team members to understand their point of view regarding an issue or problem and how it can help you connect with them on a deeper level.“Hold off on the judgment and be open to different ideas. We want to get an understanding of their emotional state, at that moment, and find a way to relate.” - Murtaza VersiThis week on Engage Relate Perform:●      What emotional empathy means●      How emotional empathy helps us build deeper connections with others●      Understanding other people’s emotional states ●      Joining a shared charity, cause, or community project to strengthen your team’s emotional empathy●      Setting aside time to focus on 1-to-1 relationship-building activities●      The importance of listening to understand●      Examples of empathetic responses●      The negative impact of ‘feeling-stopper’ responsesEngage, Relate, Perform! Thanks for tuning into this week’s episode of Engage Relate Perform. EQ Is A Trainable Superpower. Here’s How-PT1
Do you believe it is possible to increase your own emotional intelligence? Is it possible to increase the EQ of others? According to Dr. Daniel Goleman, a person’s emotional intelligence is a malleable, trainable skill – unlike your IQ. He argues that a person could even train their emotional intelligence well beyond its natural levels. So if EQ is a trainable skill, how can we work that skill like a muscle to build it up to that capacity? In today’s episode, I explain what emotional intelligence is and discuss some of the key competencies of emotional intelligence. I explain how increasing your EQ can help you form better relationships. I explain what cognitive empathy is and share strategies you can use to improve it. I also discuss the benefits and drawbacks of using cognitive empathy skills when negotiating with others.“Having empathy increases the likelihood of helping others and showing compassion.” - Murtaza VersiThis week on Engage Relate Perform:●      Understanding what emotional intelligence is●      The connection between EQ and empathy●      How increasing your EQ can help you build better relationships●      Understanding cognitive empathy●      How to improve your cognitive empathy●      The benefits and drawbacks of using cognitive empathy skills when negotiating with othersEngage, Relate, Perform! Thanks for tuning into this week’s episode of Engage Relate Perform. Laura Minde: A Bottom-Up Approach to Ethical Conduct
Laura Minde is the Managing Director and Founder of Outstanding Solutions Ltd., a hospitality consulting firm based in Tanzania that is dedicated to actively contributing to the growth of the Tanzania and East Africa tourism and hospitality sector through high-quality workforce training. Laura has 5 years of experience in training corporate staff and management employees to develop skills, competencies, and knowledge in workplace standards. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Food Science and Technology from the Sokoine University of Morogoro and holds a dual Master’s degree in International Hospitality Management from EM Lyon and the Institut Paul Bocuse. Laura joins me today to discuss her bottom-up approach to creating company cultures and boosting ethical conduct in the workplace. We discuss why it’s necessary to take a bottom-up approach to ethical conduct when creating company cultures and why it’s crucial for employers and senior executives to model the behavior they expect from their employees. We discuss strategies you can use if you discover your company’s values are not aligned with your own and the value of organizations maintaining an ‘open door policy’ when handling employee complaints. Laura shares the steps employers can take to create a culture of ethical behavior and what employees can do when they witness unethical behavior in the workplace. We also discuss why regularly training your employees on ethics is crucial for maintaining a good company culture and creating trust among your employees.  “As a leader, we have to remember that our employees emulate what we do. - so it’s important to be on the right track and lead by example.” - Laura Minde This week on Engage Relate Perform: ●     Why a bottom-up approach to ethical conduct is necessary in every organization●     The importance of modeling the behavior and conduct you expect from your employees●     What to do when your personal values are not aligned with your company’s ●     How to create a culture of ethical behavior●     Identifying your personal values and morals●     What to do when you witness unethical behavior in the workplace●     The value of having an HR department that is actively engaging with employees●     How maintaining an ‘open-door policy' for communicating unethical behavior helps boost trust within your organization●     How stress and the global economy can lead to unethical behavior in the workplace●     The importance of recognizing your staff for good performance while taking time to understand the root cause of unethical behavior Connect with Laura Minde: ●     Outstanding Solutions Ltd.
