Title: A Second Act: What Nearly Dying Teaches Us About Really Living Author: Matt Morgan Narrator: Matt Morgan Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 7 hours 47 minutes Release date: January 16, 2025 Genres: Medicine & Naturopathy Publisher's Summary: I’ve worked as an intensive care doctor for over twenty years, caring for patients who are in the thick fog between life and death. I’ve met hundreds of people who have died, were resuscitated and lived. I’ve long thought that these are the people that we should be listening to, not influencers or business gurus. They know what really matters.   It happened in an instant. Ed was walking through a park with his friend Stuart when there was a bang, a bright light and then nothing. Ed and Stuart had been hit by a bolt of lightning – 300 million volts, enough to power a city for a day, coursed through their bodies, short-circuiting their hearts. Ed was found first, given life-saving CPR to start his heart again, and he survived and had a second chance. He lives life a little differently now, every day knowing the thin margins that separate life and death.   In this book, Dr Matt Morgan meets people whose hearts have stopped and have been brought back from clinical death. He shows us how doctors resuscitate people, the shadowy world of ICU, how you can learn to save a life.We meet the patients who have experienced hypothermia, overdoses, cardiac arrests and a heart transplant and see how their lives have transformed and the lessons they want to share. Along the way, Morgan has his own realisations about his life, how to make the most of it and ensure that life is not wasted on the living.

Survival in the South Pacific: A Lost Airman’s Desperate Rescue amid the Maelstrom of War by Robert Richardson
Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/1/audiobook/822437 to listen full audiobooks. Title: Survival in the South Pacific: A Lost Airman’s Desperate Rescue amid the Maelstrom of War Author: Robert Richardson Narrator: Shawn Compton Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 13 hours 24 minutes Release date: October 22, 2024 Genres: Military Publisher's Summary: In September 1943, as America began advancing from its foothold on Guadalcanal, a young American airman was lost in heavy weather over the South Pacific on what was expected to be a routine flight. In examining that loss and the events leading up to a rescue attempt on an island in the South Pacific, and bringing together societies utterly alien to each other, Survival in the South Pacific brings together the big themes of the Pacific War. The American lieutenant and his comrades had been swept from their homes, trained at speed for war, and dispatched to one of the remotest places on the globe. American war plans in place when Pearl Harbor was attacked poorly reflected the capabilities of its military, and the limits imposed by America's far-flung and indefensible territories. The 'Germany First' policy had resulted in a deeply uncertain future for forces in the South Pacific and Australia—the United States was unprepared for the global war that came to it in late 1941, even as the pipeline of men and materiel began to fill. Young Allied and Japanese aviators, sailors, and soldiers, were not the only ones thrown into the swirling maelstrom of war that had engulfed the Pacific—the indigenous islanders were also immersed in a new reality. In bringing together individual stories of men at war, this book gives a new perspective on the Pacific War.

Tremendous Trifles: 'Perhaps the best introduction to Chesterton' by GK Chesterton
Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/1/audiobook/824529 to listen full audiobooks. Title: Tremendous Trifles: 'Perhaps the best introduction to Chesterton' Series: #1 of Chesterton's Essays Author: GK Chesterton Narrator: Charles Featherstone Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 6 hours 0 minutes Release date: October 8, 2024 Genres: Comedy, Satire & Parody Publisher's Summary: A wonderful and whimsical collection of short essays on everything from sketching on brown paper and building toy theatres to the nature of Englishness and faith. 'Tremendous Trifles contains simply some of the best essays Chesterton ever wrote. They originally appeared in the Daily News, which Chesterton contributed to from 1901 to 1913, and which explains why people bought that paper. Which is an idea so large it spills over into another essay, “A Piece of Chalk.” Here Chesterton describes how he has set out to do some drawing with his chalks, but is distressed to find that he has forgotten his white chalk. White is essential. White is a color. It is not merely the absence of color. It is “a shining and affirmative thing…it draws stars.” As white is to art, so is virtue to religion. Virtue is a positive thing; not merely “the absence of dangers or the avoidance of moral dangers…Chastity does not mean abstention from sexual wrong; it means something flaming, like Joan of Arc.” In this book, Chesterton looks at the ordinary, common things and asks us to see how extraordinary and uncommon they are. The things in his pockets, the objects in a railway station, the people in the street. With these simple, random things he can defend Christianity, Western Civilization and Democracy. “Whatever is it that we are all looking for?” he asks at the beginning of an essay entitled “A Glimpse of My Country.” He suggests that what we are looking for lies very close; we just don’t manage to see it. It is a theme throughout the book, and throughout Chesterton’s writings that what appears to be a trifle is actually tremendous. In the title essay Chesterton crystallizes this truth in a perfect sentence that would go on to be inscribed on buildings and quoted by popes: “The world will never starve for want of wonders; but only for want of wonder.” -- Dale Ahlquist, lecture for Chesterton University

The evil the sorcerer and her demon are doing is seeping into the community. Violent crimes have been increasing. Declan Quinn, the hot werewolf rebuilding my deck, is preparing for a dominance battle with the local Alpha. A couple of wolves have already left their pack to follow Declan, recognizing him as the true Alpha. Declan needs to watch his back as the full moon approaches. The current Alpha will do whatever it takes to hold on to power, including breaking pack law and enlisting the help of a local vampire. And if Wilbur, my selkie friend is right, I might just be meeting my dad soon. Perhaps he'll have some advice for this wicche hunt. I'm going to need all the help I can get. Contains mature themes.

Title: Beware the Heartman Author: Shakirah Bourne Narrator: Varia Williams Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 6 hours 45 minutes Release date: September 17, 2024 Genres: Fairy Tales & Folklore Publisher's Summary: A spooky, heartfelt mystery inspired by Caribbean mythology, featuring the most lovable characters in middle grade fiction! For once, everything in twelve-year-old Josephine's life is going according to plan. She's finally proved that girls belong on the cricket team and earned a spot as a starting player! And she's confident that she and her best friend, Ahkai, will both be accepted to their dream secondary school. Nothing can stop Jo now -- not even the memory of the vengeful sea spirit she vanquished last year. But then a series of disasters strike. Ahkai suddenly seems to have a new best friend -- the annoyingly perfect Lynne. Then Jo isn't accepted to the same school as Ahkai! Even worse, Jo keeps having eerie encounters with a mysterious figure lurking in the shadows -- a figure who bears an unsettling resemblance to the fearsome Heartman rumored to steal children's hearts... Jo doesn't know where to turn. With Daddy away, the only person who'll believe her is Ahkai, but Jo is too proud to ask for help after being replaced. By the time she musters the courage to approach him, it's too late. Ahkai has disappeared without a trace. He's been taken by the Heartman. None of the adults believe Jo. The Heartman is just a legend, after all. But Jo knows that the fearsome creature is real and that if she doesn't find his lair soon, Ahkai will be lost forever.
