Geronimo - COMMITMENT - S3 E9

Geronimo was an Apache Warrior from the southern area of Arizona and New Mexico who in the 1870s and 1880s fought for freedom for his people as the US Army resisted and eventually prevailed.  Like the other renegade tribes beforehand, the Apache were not going to sit back and allow the American settlers to invade and take away their native homelands without a fight. Told they would be released to join their families at the reservation in Florida, Geronimo and the remaining warriors eventually surrendered to General Nelson Miles.  However, as was usually the case, the US Government broke its promise and instead imprisoned Geronimo and his fellow warriors as prisoners of war (by order of President Grover Cleveland). In 1905, Geronimo participated in the inaugural parade in Washington, DC for President Theodore Roosevelt. After the parade, he asked Roosevelt to allow his tribe to return to AZ/NM their homeland. Too bad though, he was denied.  In 1909, Geronimo died of pnuemonia on the reservation in Oklahoma. As a warrior, he was an Eagle, as a leader fighting for fair treatment of his people, he was a Hoss. As an immigrant from over a hundred centuries past (from Asia), he was an Immigrant Mutt, like the rest of us! The Eagle Hoss & Hound podcast is a platform for respect. Respect for the Eagle - the individual with a service background (including spouses). Respect for the Hoss - the Social Integrity Hero from our American past. Plus, the Hound - the common #AmericanMutt - you and me. Follow @EagleIMBUED - J.D. Collier
