Don’t Wear Silver in the Winter: Remembering My Mother by Janet Cantor Gari
Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/1/audiobook/300542 to listen full audiobooks. Title: Don’t Wear Silver in the Winter: Remembering My Mother Author: Janet Cantor Gari Narrator: Amanda Gari Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 1 hour 55 minutes Release date: August 1, 2017 Genres: Women Publisher's Summary: Eddie Cantor was a huge star of vaudeville, Broadway, old-time radio, silent movies, and talkies. He was awarded an honorary Academy Award in 1956 for distinguished service to the film industry, in a long career that spanned three decades and such memorable films as Special Delivery, Kid Boots, Whoopee!, and Roman Scandals. One of his earliest paying jobs was as a singing waiter with Jimmy Durante accompanying him on piano. Florenz Ziegfeld hired him to appear at his rooftop post-show, Midnight Frolic, in 1917. A year later, Cantor made his Broadway debut in the Ziegfeld Follies of 1917, often appearing in blackface in an era that popularized Will Rogers, Fanny Brice, and W. C. Fields. After appearing on Broadway for years, he moved into radio in the 1920s. In 1931, he starred in an hour-long Sunday evening variety series that established him as a leading comedian. He also discovered and helped guide the career of singer Dinah Shore, first featuring her on his radio show in 1940, as well as other performers, including Deanna Durbin, Bobby Breen, and Eddie Fisher. Cantor also had a huge song hit in 1934, “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town,” which sold 400,000 copies by Christmas of that year. Cantor capitalized on the 1929 stock market debacle by writing highly popular bestselling books of humor and cartoons about his experience, including Caught Short! A Saga of Wailing Wall Street in 1929. You can imagine how often Janet Cantor Gari heard that her mother was inadvertently as funny as her father, the legendary Eddie Cantor, and that she ought to write a book. The result was surprising, even to herself, as she uncovered her true relationship with her mother. Whether Janet is describing situations in her native New York or the nine years she lived in Hollywood, the book is completely candid. You’ll casually meet celebrities under circumstances you’d never expect, and you’ll empathize with the Cantor clan’s triumphs and tragedies as if you were a next door neighbor!

Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/1/audiobook/275104 to listen full audiobooks. Title: Nujeen: One Girl's Incredible Journey from War-Torn Syria in a Wheelchair Author: Christina Lamb, Nujeen Mustafa Narrator: Raghad Chaar Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 6 hours 43 minutes Release date: October 11, 2016 Genres: Women Publisher's Summary: Prize-winning journalist and the co-author of smash New York Times bestseller I Am Malala, Christina Lamb, now tells the inspiring true story of another remarkable young hero: Nujeen Mustafa, a teenager born with cerebral palsy, whose harrowing journey from war-ravaged Syria to Germany in a wheelchair is a breathtaking tale of fortitude, grit, and hope that lends a face to the greatest humanitarian issue of our time, the Syrian refugee crisis. For millions around the globe, sixteen-year-old Nujeen Mustafa embodies the best of the human spirit. Confined to a wheelchair because of her cerebral palsy and denied formal schooling in Syria because of her illness, Nujeen taught herself English by watching American soap operas. When her small town became the epicenter of the brutal fight between ISIS militants and US-backed Kurdish troops in 2014, she and her family were forced to flee. Despite her physical limitations, Nujeen embarked on the arduous trek to safety and a new life. The grueling sixteen-month odyssey by foot, boat, and bus took her across Turkey and the Mediterranean to Greece, through Macedonia to Serbia and Hungary, and finally, to Germany. Yet, in spite of the tremendous physical hardship she endured, Nujeen's extraordinary optimism never wavered. Refusing to give in to despair or see herself as a passive victim, she kept her head high. As she told a BBC reporter, ''You should fight to get what you want in this world.'' Nujeen's positivity and resolve infuses this unforgettable story of one young woman determined to make a better life for herself. Told by acclaimed British foreign correspondent Christina Lamb, Nujeen is a unique and powerful memoir that gives voice to the Syrian refugee crisis, helping us to understand that the world must change—and offering the inspiration to make that change reality.

It featured a gutsy, brilliant performance by team captain and midfielder Carli Lloyd, who made history that day, scoring a hat trick—three goals in one game—during the first sixteen minutes.    But there was a time when Carli almost quit the sport. In 2003 she was struggling, her soccer career at a crossroads. Then she found a trusted trainer, James Galanis, who saw in Carli a player with raw talent, skill, and a great dedication to the game. What Carli lacked were fitness, mental toughness, and character. Together they set to work, training day and night, fighting, grinding it out. No one worked harder than Carli. And no one believed in her more than James. Despite all the naysayers, the times she was benched, moments when her self-confidence took a nosedive, she succeeded in becoming one of the best players in the world.    This candid reflection on a remarkable turnaround will take listeners inside the women's national team and inside the head of an athlete who willed herself to perform at the highest levels of competition.  With the Author's Note and Prologue read by the Author

The Pirate Queen: Queen Elizabeth I, Her Pirate Adventurers, and the Dawn of Empire by Susan Ronald
Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/1/audiobook/294709 to listen full audiobooks. Title: The Pirate Queen: Queen Elizabeth I, Her Pirate Adventurers, and the Dawn of Empire Author: Susan Ronald Narrator: Josephine Bailey Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 13 hours 43 minutes Release date: September 24, 2007 Ratings: Ratings of Book: 3 of Total 1 Genres: Women Publisher's Summary: Dubbed the 'pirate queen' by the Vatican and Spain's Philip II, Elizabeth I was feared and admired by her enemies. Extravagant, whimsical, and hot-tempered, Elizabeth was the epitome of power. Her visionary accomplishments were made possible by her daring merchants, gifted rapscallion adventurers, astronomer philosophers, and her stalwart Privy Council, including Sir William Cecil, Sir Francis Walsingham, and Sir Nicholas Bacon. All these men contributed their vast genius, power, greed, and expertise to the advancement of England. In The Pirate Queen, historian Susan Ronald offers a fresh look at Elizabeth I, focusing on her uncanny instinct for financial survival and the superior intellect that propelled and sustained her rise. The foundation of Elizabeth's empire was built on a carefully choreographed strategy whereby piracy transformed England from an impoverished state on the fringes of Europe into the first building block of an empire that covered two-fifths of the world. Based on a wealth of historical sources and thousands of personal letters between Elizabeth and her merchant adventurers, advisers, and royal 'cousins,' The Pirate Queen tells the thrilling story of Elizabeth and the swashbuckling mariners who terrorized the seas, planted the seedlings of an empire, and amassed great wealth for themselves and the Crown.
