Middlemarch by George Eliot
Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/1/audiobook/271088 to listen full audiobooks. Title: Middlemarch Author: George Eliot Narrator: LibriVox Volunteers Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 33 hours 5 minutes Release date: August 10, 2016 Ratings: Ratings of Book: 3.9 of Total 10 Ratings of Narrator: 3 of Total 5 Genres: Social Science Publisher's Summary: The book examines the role of education in the lives of the characters and how such education and study has affected the characters. Rosamond Vincy's finishing school education is a foil to Dorothea Brooke's religiously-motivated quest for knowledge. Rosamond initially admires Lydgate for his exotic education, and his intellect. A similar dynamic is present in Dorothea and Casaubon's relationship, with Dorothea revering her new husband's intellect and eloquence. In both cases, however, the young wives' expectations of their husbands intellects are not reflected in reality. Despite extreme erudition, Mr. Casaubon is afraid to publish because he believes that he must write a work that is utterly above criticism. In contrast, Lydgate at times arrogantly flaunts his knowledge, making enemies with his fellow physicians. He regards the residents of Middlemarch with a certain amount of contempt stemming from his belief that the townspeople are backwards and uninteresting. However, his education has not included tact and politicking, skills necessary in a small town but are seen by Lydgate as below him, the brilliant doctor. (summary from Wikipedia)

Aggregative Properties & Emergent Properties by JOHN-MICHAEL KUCZYNSKI
Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/1/audiobook/269243 to listen full audiobooks. Title: Aggregative Properties & Emergent Properties Author: JOHN-MICHAEL KUCZYNSKI Narrator: JOHN-MICHAEL KUCZYNSKI Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 0 hours 10 minutes Release date: July 8, 2016 Genres: Social Science Publisher's Summary: It is said what aggregative properties are and also what emergent properties are, and examples are given each of kind of property. It is also explained why, even though all emergent properties are aggregative properties, not all aggregative properties are emergent properties. It is further made clear that, strictly speaking, emergence is a property of one's knowledge of a given kind of aggregate, and not of such aggregates themselves, this being why a property that is emergent at one time will, when additional information becomes available, cease to be emergent. And it is explained why, for this very reason, the right answer to the question 'why does X exist?' is never 'because X is an emergent property.'

That's Not English: Britishisms, Americanisms, and What Our English Says About Us by Erin Moore

Title: That's Not English: Britishisms, Americanisms, and What Our English Says About Us Author: Erin Moore Narrator: Shannon Parks Format: Unabridged Audiobook Length: 5 hours 45 minutes Release date: July 1, 2015 Genres: Social Science Publisher's Summary: An expat’s witty and insightful exploration of English and American cultural differences through the lens of language that will leave readers gobsmacked In That’s Not English, the seemingly superficial differences between British and American English open the door to a deeper exploration of a historic and fascinating cultural divide. In each of the thirty chapters, Erin Moore explains a different word we use that says more about us than we think. For example, 'Quite' exposes the tension between English reserve and American enthusiasm; in 'Moreish,' she addresses our snacking habits. In 'Partner,' she examines marriage equality; in 'Pull,' the theme is dating and sex; 'Cheers' is about drinking; and 'Knackered' covers how we raise our kids. The result is a cultural history in miniature and an expatriate’s survival guide. American by birth, Moore is a former book editor who specialized in spotting British books—including Eats, Shoots & Leaves—for the US market. She’s spent the last seven years living in England with her Anglo American husband and a small daughter with an English accent. That’s Not English is the perfect companion for modern Anglophiles and the ten million British and American travelers who visit one another’s countries each year.

One World Ready or Not: The Manic Logic of Global Capitalism by William Greider

Title: One World Ready or Not: The Manic Logic of Global Capitalism Author: William Greider Narrator: Howard McGillin Format: Abridged Audiobook Length: 6 hours 0 minutes Release date: January 1, 1997 Ratings: Ratings of Book: 5 of Total 1 Ratings of Narrator: 5 of Total 1 Genres: Social Science Publisher's Summary: In ONE WORLD, READY OR NOT, William Greider focuses his incomparable reportorial skills on the global economy, which he contends is sowing 'creative destruction' everywhere. Greider explains the dynamics of the global economy in terms of human struggle. As he makes clear, the actions of multinational corporations and finance capitalists are no longer guided by the national interests of their home countries, but by the imperatives of the free market. As the global economy's contradictions multiply and its instabilities deepen, are we doomed to relive the world depression and the rise of violent fascism experienced in the early 20th century? Greider believes we are not, provided we are willing to recognize the dangers for what they are - as threats not only to our middle-class lifestyles but also to social peace in both rich and poor countries alike - and provided national governments can be persuaded to reassert their powers to regulate players in the global market and protect the rights of workers everywhere before it's too late.
