*Special Episode* College Board and its Monopoly on Higher Education

It is nearly impossible for any American or even international student to complete high school and enroll in college without in some way interacting with the College Board. The College Board prides itself on being a “mission-driven not-for-profit organization that connects students to college success.” And some of its well-known services for students include the AP Program and the SAT, among others. On top of being elitist and exploitative of low-income students, these programs reign as an effective monopoly over higher education, as they are crucial to college admission. Although College Board claims to be a non-profit, they racked up over a billion dollars in revenue in 2018, with most of their revenue coming from AP Exams. Because students have virtually no other option than to use College Board’s services if they want to be admitted to top tier universities, this makes College Board a monopoly.
