With Wicked: For Good coming to theaters this month, we are are going somehwere over the rainbow to talk about the 1939 adaptation of this book in L. Frank Baum's Oz series. The movie tells the story of a little girl from Kansas whose house gets caught in a tornado that takes her to the enchanted land of Oz. With the help of a Scarecrow, a Tin Man and a Cowardly Lion, she must get to the Emerald City to meet the Wizard who can send her back home. This movie is also anchored by legendary performances from Judy Garland as Dorothy and Margaret Hamilton as the Wicked Witch of the West respectively. 

For spooky season we are starting this year by basically re-making our own first episode of this podcast. We return to John Carpernter's 1978 proto-slasher. In 1963, 6 year old Michael Myers murders his older sister. 15 years after being locked away in a Sanitarium, Michael escapes and returns to his hometown of Haddonfield where he finds and follows a young babysitter. The film debut of Jamie Lee Curtis. 

This week we finally review some 2025 horror again. The follow up to Zach Cregger's 2022 horror film "Barbarian" takes us to the small town of Maybrook who's rocked by the sudden mysterious disappearance of nearly an entire elementary school class and how the shocking tragedy has changed the town around it. Spoiler heavy talk ahead so please watch this film before listening. 

This week we decided to review DC and WB's first attempt at rebooting Superman... Coming one year after Batman Begins, this sort of sequel to Richard Donner and Richard Lester's (respectively) original two films in the franchise sees the Man of Steel return to earth after a five year absence. Lois Lane has moved on in this time and started her own family, few people question why or how Clark Kent also disappeared from a hiatus himself, and we are going to the Lex Luthor well once again with eccentric billionaire villain now being played by Kevin Spacey. Your hosts will also spend some time explaining how we arrived here after Superman II and question why Bryan Singer chose to leave the X-Men franchise for this.

James Gunn officially kicks off the new DC Studios with his long awaited adaptation of the Man of Steel. This movie finally takes Superman out of the grim and gritty era of the Zack Snyder universe and brings back the wonder of the 1978 original with a Superman that is a much needed ray of light in a dark work. This is a SPOILER FILLED review so we do NOT recommend listening to this unless you have already seen this movie.

In preparation for Jame Gunn's highly anticipated DCU reboot of the man of steel, we are going back to 1980 and watching the first Superman sequel ever. Mostly shot in parallel with the original before Richard Donner's exit, this movie is a continuation of the original and expands on the relationship between Superman and Lois lane while also giving us one of the best villains in this series, General Zod. Because of the chaotic nature of this production, two versions of this movie exist and we talk about them both. Javi watched the Theatrical, also known as the [Richard] Lester Cut, while Angel watched the 2006 released [Richard] Donner Cut on DVD. We discuss the differences, the similarities and figure out if we in fact like this super sequel. 

On this podcast, you will believe a man can fly. This week we go back to the grandaddy of the Comic Book/Superhero genre by discussing Richard Donner's 1978 epic. Almost every superhero movie that has come after including those made today include tropes from this film. We follow the Last Son of Krypton as he is sent away from his collapsing planet to earth, and discovers his purpose is to be a hero fighting for truth, justice, and the American way. 

We are back reviewing what may already be the film of 2025. We are unapologetic glazers of Ryan Coogler's work so this episode is less about whether we enjoy this movie and more how great this latest work of the East Bay director is. This modern Vampire story revolves around a pair of twin brothers (both played in an EXCELLENT turn from Michael B Jordon) who are trying to open a juke joint in Mississippi who now have to deal with a completely unexpected treat: Vampires. 

Re-releasing this 2020 episode since this movie turned 30 today. In the 1990s, Disney was going through their Animation renaissance starting with 1989's The Little Mermaid, Included, Aladdin, The Lion King, and the Academy Award nominated Beauty and the Beast.  At the tail end of this period came the sequel to the early 90s cartoon Goof Troop, which follows Disney characters Goofy and Pete as they are navigating parenthood. In this movie, Goofy is afraid that he has grown too distant from his teenage son Max, and decides to take him away for the summer on a cross-country fishing trip for the summer, the only issue is that this interferes with Max's plans to woo his high school crush, Roxanne. 

In Memory of the late Val Kilmer we are re-releasing our hilarious 2020 review of this 1995 Batman movie with the Top 2 (and it's not 2) movie soundtrack of all time.  Lets start this party with a bang. 

We have decided to re-release this 2021 episode since we have reached the 30 anniversary of this musical icon's tragic passing.   We reviewed the Jennifer Lopez star vehicle based on the life of Mexican-American pop icon Selena Quintanilla-Perez. This is a movie that is so prevalent in Hispanic American culture that it has colored much of how we view the late Tejano singer, and it a great snapshot of the struggle for first and second generation Americans to maintain connection with our heritage. Along with the review of this film, Angel gives some thoughts on the new Netflix series, and trigger warning as we also dip into True Crime land by discussing the details of Selena's murder.

"Hey remember that 2008 Incredible Hulk movie?" - No one at Marvel Studios, but also the creators of this movie. In his first outing behind the shield, Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson (formerly known as Falcon) works with President Thaddeus Ross who wants him to put the Avengers back together, until an assassination attempt has him puts them at odds while the mastermind of the attack has everyone seeing red (GET IT?!). Also, in a stunning twist (*sarcasm*), the President of the United States is trading personal favors for his own gain with foreign powers. Come listen to the first episode of 2025! 

This week we talk about this 2001 Chris Columbus adaptation of the JK Rowling book series of a young orphaned boy who discovers he is a wizard and he enrolls Hogwarts, the school of witchcraft and wizardry. Join us as we talk about this movie, our first time watching it and our connection to one if its creators!

This final chapter in the Merc with the mouth's cannon has him joining the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe while also saying goodbye to the Non-MCU Marvel films. It also gives us the unexpected return of Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. 

We review the second film in the Deadpool franchise where he links up with Cable.

We return from hiatus to wrap up our X-Men/Deadpool series with the real introduction to the Merc with the Mouth in live action. Ryan Reynolds deserves massive credit for willing this project to existence after it should have received the electric chair following X-Men Origins: Wolverine. After being diagnosed with cancer and having a treatment that was supposed to cure him, Wade Wilson seeks revenge against the man who ruined his life.

We come to the end of our X-Men series. In this final chapter of the Mutant saga, we follow Jean Grey who's powers become fully unlocked and uncontrollable after the X-Men save a group of Astronauts in space. This is where she is exposed to an alien force that begins turning her into the Dark Phoenix. The cast from First Class to Apocalypse make their final appearance together in a film that was released post 20th Century/Disney merger.

BONUS EPISODE! As a thank you to our longtime listeners and all the new listeners that have recently started following the show we wanted to take a break from Superheroes to talk about maybe the most anticipated horror movie of the year! This film directed by Oz Perkins brings 2010s scream queen Maika Monroe back into the spotlight as an FBI agent who is trying to capture a Oregon serial killer known only as Longlegs. The marketing of this film was excellent from its slow release of movie clips on social media, to a phone number where you could hear the killer's voice, to the hiding of Nicholas Cage's face until you saw it in the theater, and we are so excited to talk about it!

The third film in this superhero decades saga takes us to the 1980s where we finally meet young Cyclops, Jean Gray, Nightcrawler and others as they face off against an ancient mutant by the name of En Sabah Nur, or better known to comic book fans as Apocalypse played the by wonderful Oscar Isaac coming off Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
