Today's Distortion Dad's Wheel of Subgenres episode looks at a decade or more of changes in the sound of metalcore beyond what we already spoke about in Metalcore Part 1. How does Metalcore part 2 differ? We look at 8 genre-defining bands who put out their first albums from 2005 to 2016 and are still putting new music out today. Who are they? One just did a collaboration with Ed Sheeran, another jump started their career thanks to a Taylor Swift song. We introduce 6 new-to-us MC2 bands - one of which just released their debut album this year and another that uses an instrument not commonly heard in metal. We end the episode by choosing 6 DDDD for volunteer listeners to react to and read them to each other live. Will they like what they hear? And what will be our next metal subgenre to explore? The Distortion Dads jump into their second subgenre and quickly realized that they had their work cut out for them. After tons of research and placing bands in waves, part one is here. This episode explores the bands that were integral to the "first wave" of Metalcore, including the Massachusetts Metalcore Scene and others from around the country.
