Regie: Wolfgang Schenck ©1962 SR (P)1962 SR

Spirit of the Wind Audiobook by Bunny Throckmorton
Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/audiobook/133/ to download full audiobooks of your choice for free. Title: Spirit of the Wind Subtitle: A Woman's View of Sailing Across the Ocean Author: Bunny Throckmorton Narrator: Natasha Harper Format: Unabridged Length: 6 hrs and 25 mins Language: English Release date: 09-07-17 Publisher: Waldorf Publishing Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 3 votes Genres: Travel & Adventure, Adventure & Exploration Publisher's Summary: This audiobook is the story of sailing across the ocean from Guam to San Francisco on our wonderful sailboat, the "Spirit of the Wind", a 41 foot Taiwan-built Ketch designed by William Garden. A group of 20-something kids went to Guam looking for the meaning of life, bought a boat, fixed it up, and learned to sail across the ocean. It was a beautiful and spiritual journey, while at times was totally and completely terrifying. It introduced me to the South Pacific Islands and the wonderful and gracious people there - it was truly a paradise. The warm trade winds that I can feel sometimes in my dreams, the feel and sounds of the wind in the sails and moving through fear. I learned to improvise in the moment, how to deal with life then there was no land for weeks on end, with just the horizon all around - as if we were sailing on a mirror. It introduced me to the wonders of the ocean and its inhabitants. This trip changed my life and what I thought the world was. It enabled me to see, feel, and do things that I didn't know I was capable of. It was a serious lesson in being with three other people, all men, in a 40 foot sailboat with very little privacy. It taught me that the weather goes on - it doesn't help to pray for it to change and is bigger than us. It was transformational in so many ways, facing death almost daily.

On Island Time Audiobook by Scott B. Williams
Please visit https://thebookvoice.com/podcasts/audiobook/133/ to download full audiobooks of your choice for free. Title: On Island Time Subtitle: Kayaking the Caribbean Author: Scott B. Williams Narrator: Dean Smart Format: Unabridged Length: 8 hrs and 4 mins Language: English Release date: 08-14-17 Publisher: University Press Audiobooks Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 2 votes Genres: Travel & Adventure, Adventure & Exploration Publisher's Summary: Tourists visit popular islands of the Caribbean by the planeload. What they don't see from their resort hotels are the hundreds of out-of-the-way, uninhabited islands sprinkled along the West Indies, from Florida to South America. This alluring archipelago, strung with beaches accessible only by boat but spaced temptingly close together, led Mississippi adventurer Scott B. Williams to embark upon an open-ended quest to see how far south he could go in a 17-foot sea kayak. No one was willing to accompany him. He spent months working his way down the west coast of Florida, through the Bahamas, and on to Hispaniola, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. On Island Time: Kayaking the Caribbean, his narrative of this journey of a lifetime, describes the wonders of discovery as he makes landfall on pristine cays. Relentless headwinds, dangerous surf, countless beaches declared off-limits to trespassing, and aggressive sharks that ram his kayak and snap him out of his musing, remind the adventurer that this paradise is far from perfect. Every day of the journey required constant vigilance. With no one to depend on and often no one even knowing where he was for weeks at a time, Williams learned what it means to be self-reliant and to adjust to "island time." With just a simple craft and the few belongings that would fit in it, Williams explores an almost boundless frontier, and a powerful natural stretch of the Caribbean rarely, if ever, accessed by the island tourist. The audiobook is published by University Press of Mississippi.

Title: The Drive Subtitle: Searching for Lost Memories on the Pan-American Highway Author: Teresa Bruce Narrator: Teresa Bruce Format: Unabridged Length: 9 hrs and 33 mins Language: English Release date: 06-13-17 Publisher: Audible Studios Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 3 votes Genres: Travel & Adventure, Adventure & Exploration Publisher's Summary: The Drive follows Teresa Bruce on her 2003 road trip through Mexico and onto the Pan-American Highway, in a rickety camper with her old dog and new husband in tow. Bruce first set off on the exact same route in 1973, her parents at the helm and their two young daughters in tow, as a reaction to the accidental death of their youngest child, Bruce's brother John John. Her attempt to follow the route, using her mother's travel journal as an anecdotal guide, is as much about her need for exploration as it is about trying to understand her parents and their pain, and to finally begin to heal her own wounds over the accident. Bruce is immensely talented in bringing scenery of Central and South America to life - countries from Mexico and Guatemala to Bolivia and Argentina are detailed with her innate attention to detail and sense of storytelling. The Drive details a really incredible journey through these beautiful, at times corrupt and war-torn countries, across roads that are as likely to be barricaded by guerrillas or washed out by floods as they are to be passable. The Drive is travel writing at its best, combining moments of deep heartbreak with unimaginable joy over a panoply of unforgettable settings.

Lasso the Wind Audiobook by Timothy Egan

Title: Lasso the Wind Subtitle: Away to the New West Author: Timothy Egan Narrator: John McLain Format: Unabridged Length: 11 hrs and 36 mins Language: English Release date: 06-06-17 Publisher: Brilliance Audio Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 9 votes Genres: Travel & Adventure, Adventure & Exploration Publisher's Summary: A New York Times Notable Book of the Year Winner of the Mountains and Plains Book Seller's Association Award "They have tried to tame it, shave it, fence it, cut it, dam it, drain it, nuke it, poison it, pave it, and subdivide it," writes Timothy Egan of the West; still, "this region's hold on the American character has never seemed stronger." In this colorful and revealing journey through the eleven states west of the 100th meridian, Egan, a third-generation westerner, evokes a lovely and troubled country where land is religion and the holy war between preservers and possessors never ends. Egan leads us on an unconventional, freewheeling tour: from America's oldest continuously inhabited community, the Ancoma Pueblo in New Mexico, to the high kitsch of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, where London Bridge has been painstakingly rebuilt stone by stone; from the fragile beauty of Idaho's Bitterroot Range to the gross excess of Las Vegas, a city built as though in defiance of its arid environment. In a unique blend of travel writing, historical reflection, and passionate polemic, Egan has produced a moving study of the West: how it became what it is, and where it is going. Critic Reviews: "Sprawling in scope.... Mr. Egan uses the past powerfully to explain and give dimension to the present." (The New York Times) "Fine reportage... honed and polished until it reads more like literature than journalism." (Los Angeles Times)
