The Other Side of Infamy by James Lund | Free Audiobook
Listen to full audiobooks for free on : https://hotaudiobook.com/free Title: The Other Side of Infamy Author: James Lund, Jim Downing Narrator: Tim Campbell Format: Unabridged Length: 5 hrs and 5 mins Language: English Release date: 01-30-18 Publisher: Tantor Audio Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Personal Memoirs Summary: War is uncomfortable for Christians, and worldwide war is unfamiliar for today's generations. Jim Downing reflects on his illustrious military career, including his experience during the bombing of Pearl Harbor, to show how we can be people of faith during troubled times. The natural human impulse is to run from attack. Jim Downing - along with countless other soldiers and sailors at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 - ran toward it, fighting to rescue his fellow navy men, to protect loved ones and civilians on the island, and to find the redemptive path forward from a devastating war. We are protected from war these days, but there was a time when war was very present in our lives, and in The Other Side of Infamy we learn from a veteran of Pearl Harbor and World War II what it means to follow Jesus into and through every danger, toil, and snare. Enemies Within: Communists, Spies and the Making of Modern Britain by Richard Davenport-Hines | Free Audiobook
Listen to full audiobooks for free on : https://hotaudiobook.com/free Title: Enemies Within: Communists, Spies and the Making of Modern Britain Author: Richard Davenport-Hines Narrator: Richard Trinder Format: Unabridged Length: 24 hrs and 11 mins Language: English Release date: 01-25-18 Publisher: HarperCollins Publishers Limited Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Political Figures Summary: What pushed Blunt, Burgess, Cairncross, Maclean and Philby into Soviet hands? With access to recently released papers and other neglected documents, this sharp analysis of the intelligence world examines how and why these men and others betrayed their country and what this cost Britain and its allies. 'Historians fumble their catches when they study individuals' motives and ideas rather than the institutions in which people work, respond, find motivation and develop their ideas', writes Richard Davenport-Hines in his history of the men who were persuaded by the Soviet Union to betray their country. In an audiobook which attempts to counter many contradictory accounts, Enemies Within offers a study of character: both individual and institutional - the operative traits of boarding schools, the universities of Oxford and Cambridge, the Intelligence Division, the Foreign Office, MI5, MI6 and Moscow Centre. The audiobook refuses to present the Cambridge spies as they wished to be seen, in Marxist terms. It argues that these five men did their greatest harm to Britain not from their clandestine espionage but in their propaganda victories enjoyed from Moscow after 1951. Notions of trust, abused trust, forfeited trust and mistrust from the late 19th century to perestroika pepper its narrative. In an audiobook that is as intellectually thrilling as it is entertaining and illuminating, Davenport-Hines charts how the undermining of authority, the rejection of expertise, and the suspicion of educational advantages began with the Cambridge Five and has transformed the social and political temper of Britain. Be Free or Die by Cate Lineberry | Free Audiobook
Listen to full audiobooks for free on : https://hotaudiobook.com/free Title: Be Free or Die Author: Cate Lineberry Narrator: J. D. Jackson Format: Unabridged Length: 8 hrs and 19 mins Language: English Release date: 01-24-18 Publisher: Tantor Audio Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Political Figures Summary: Facing death rather than enslavement - a story of one man's triumphant choice and ultimate rise to national hero. It was a mild May morning in Charleston, South Carolina, in 1862, the second year of the Civil War, when a 23-year-old slave named Robert Smalls did the unthinkable and boldly seized a Confederate steamer. With his wife and two young children hidden on board, Smalls and a small crew ran a gauntlet of heavily armed fortifications in Charleston Harbor and delivered the valuable vessel and the massive guns it carried to nearby Union forces. To be unsuccessful was a death sentence for all. Smalls' courageous and ingenious act freed him and his family from slavery and immediately made him a Union hero while simultaneously challenging much of the country's view of what African-Americans were willing to do to gain their freedom. After his escape, Smalls served in numerous naval campaigns off Charleston as a civilian boat pilot and eventually became the first black captain of an Army ship. In a particularly poignant moment Smalls even bought the home that he and his mother had once served in as house slaves. Contact: info@hotaudiobook.com

The Religious Life of Robert E. Lee by R. David Cox | Free Audiobook
Listen to full audiobooks for free on : https://hotaudiobook.com/free Title: The Religious Life of Robert E. Lee Author: R. David Cox Narrator: Trevor Thompson Format: Unabridged Length: 11 hrs and 42 mins Language: English Release date: 01-19-18 Publisher: Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Company Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Political Figures Summary: The first close examination of how Robert E. Lee's faith shaped his life Robert E. Lee was many things - accomplished soldier, military engineer, college president, family man, agent of reconciliation, polarizing figure. He was also a person of deep Christian conviction. In this biography of the famous Civil War general, R. David Cox shows how Lee's Christian faith shaped his crucial role in some of the most pivotal events in American history. Delving into family letters and other primary sources - some of them newly discovered - Cox traces the lifelong development of Lee's convictions and how they influenced his decisions to stand with Virginia against the Union and later to support reconciliation and reconstruction in the years after the Civil War. Faith was central to Lee's character, Cox argues - so central that it directed and redirected his life, especially in the aftermath of defeat. Contact: info@hotaudiobook.com

Stirring the Pot with Benjamin Franklin by Rae Katherine Eighmey | Free Audiobook
Listen to full audiobooks for free on : https://hotaudiobook.com/free Title: Stirring the Pot with Benjamin Franklin Author: Rae Katherine Eighmey Narrator: Pam Ward Format: Unabridged Length: 10 hrs and 19 mins Language: English Release date: 01-16-18 Publisher: Blackstone Audio, Inc. Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Political Figures Summary: In this remarkable culinary biography, Rae Katherine Eighmey presents Benjamin Franklin's experimentation with food throughout his life. At age 16, he began dabbling in vegetarianism. In his early 20s, citing the health benefits of water over alcohol, he convinced his printing press colleagues to abandon their traditional breakfast of beer and bread for "water gruel", a kind of porridge he enjoyed. Franklin is known for his scientific discoveries, including electricity and the lightning rod, and his curiosity and logical mind extended to the kitchen: he even conducted an electrical experiment to try to cook a turkey. Later in life, on his diplomatic missions - he lived 15 years in England and nine in France - Franklin ate like a local. Eighmey discovers the meals served at his London home-away-from-home and analyzes his account books from Passy, France, for tips to his diet there. Yet he also longed for American foods; his wife Deborah sent over some favorites including cranberries, which amazed the London kitchen staff. He saw food as key to the developing culture of the United States, penning two essays presenting maize as the defining grain of America. Eighmey revives and re-creates recipes from each chapter in his life. Stirring the Pot with Benjamin Franklin conveys all of Franklin's culinary adventures, demonstrating how Franklin's love of food shaped not only his life, but also the character of the young nation he helped build. Amiable Scoundrel: Simon Cameron, Lincoln's Scandalous Secretary of War by Paul Kahan | Free Audiobook
Listen to full audiobooks for free on : https://hotaudiobook.com/free Title: Amiable Scoundrel: Simon Cameron, Lincoln's Scandalous Secretary of War Author: Paul Kahan Narrator: Michael Kazalski Format: Unabridged Length: 9 hrs and 47 mins Language: English Release date: 01-15-18 Publisher: University Press Audiobooks Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Political Figures Summary: From abject poverty to undisputed political boss of Pennsylvania, Lincolns secretary of war, senator, chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and a founder of the Republican Party, Simon Cameron (17991889) was one of the 19th centurys most prominent political figures. In his wake, however, he left a series of questionable political and business dealings and, at the age of 80, even a sex scandal. Far more than a biography of Cameron, Amiable Scoundrel is also a portrait of an era that allowed - indeed, encouraged - a man such as Cameron to seize political control. A key figure in designing and implementing the Unions military strategy during the Civil Wars crucial first year, Cameron played an essential role in pushing Abraham Lincoln to permit the enlistment of African Americans into the US Army, a stance that eventually led to his forced resignation. Yet, his legacy has languished, nearly forgotten save for the fact that his name has become shorthand for corruption, even though no evidence has ever been presented to prove that Cameron was corrupt. Amiable Scoundrel puts Camerons actions into a larger historical context by demonstrating that many politicians of the time, including Abraham Lincoln, used similar tactics to win elections and advance their careers. This study is the fascinating story of Camerons life and an illuminating portrait of his times. Published by University of Nebraska Press. "This book is essential for any civil war historian's library." - San Francisco Book Review "A political biography that every Civil War student should read." - Civil War Books and Authors "A thought-provoking biography." - BlueGray Magazine Contact: info@hotaudiobook.com

Nederman (PhD, York University), you will become a more ethical person as you explore Aristotelian thought. The word "politics" is an often-controversial term in our day, conjuring associations with partisanship and subterfuge. But as conceived by the ancient Greeks, politics was essential for becoming a virtuous person. Among the great minds of antiquity, perhaps none remains as relevant as Aristotle, for whom the ultimate purpose of politics was the common good. Aristotle: A Course on Citizen Virtue gives you the rare opportunity to learn from one of the leading experts on Aristotle and political theory. With Nederman, an award-winning professor at Texas A&M University, you'll explore Aristotle's historical, intellectual, and biographical backdrop. You'll also draw connections between this context and the moral and political philosophies of Aristotle. Finally, you will consider the powerful Aristotelian conception of human goodness. In particular, you'll look at his powerful principle of teleology: all human beings have a purpose. By grasping Aristotle's influences and ideas, you'll come to understand him as a thinker influenced by his time and place. But Prof. Nederman's course also reveals how he provided the basis for moral philosophy, political thought, and university curricula in the West and beyond. Today, Aristotle remains as vital as ever, inspiring great thinkers and providing insights into contemporary issues. And most importantly, he speaks powerfully about what it means to be a good person. By studying his thought, you will find guidance for flourishing and realizing your full potential. The Road Not Taken by Max Boot | Free Audiobook
Listen to full audiobooks for free on : https://hotaudiobook.com/free Title: The Road Not Taken Author: Max Boot Narrator: Henry Strozier Format: Unabridged Length: 27 hrs and 33 mins Language: English Release date: 01-09-18 Publisher: Recorded Books Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Political Figures Summary: In chronicling the adventurous life of legendary CIA operative Edward Lansdale, The Road Not Taken definitively reframes our understanding of the Vietnam War. In this epic biography of Edward Lansdale (1908-1987), the man said to be the fictional model for Graham Greene's The Quiet American, best-selling historian Max Boot demonstrates how Lansdale pioneered a "hearts and mind" diplomacy, first in the Philippines, then in Vietnam. It was a visionary policy that, as Boot reveals, was ultimately crushed by America's giant military bureaucracy, steered by elitist generals and blueblood diplomats who favored troop build-ups and napalm bombs over winning the trust of the people. Through dozens of interviews and access to never before-seen documents - including long-hidden love letters - Boot recasts this cautionary American story, tracing the bold rise and the crashing fall of the roguish "T. E. Lawrence of Asia" from the battle of Dien Bien Phu to the humiliating American evacuation in 1975. Bringing a tragic complexity to this so-called "ugly American", this "engrossing biography" (Karl Marlantes) rescues Lansdale from historical ignominy and suggests that Vietnam could have been different had we only listened. With reverberations that continue to play out in Iraq and Afghanistan, The Road Not Taken is a biography of profound historical consequence. Contact: info@hotaudiobook.com

Why We Can't Wait by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. | Free Audiobook
Listen to full audiobooks for free on : https://hotaudiobook.com/free Title: Why We Can't Wait Author: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Dorothy Cotton - introduction Narrator: J. D. Jackson Format: Unabridged Length: 6 hrs and 5 mins Language: English Release date: 01-09-18 Publisher: Beacon Press Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Political Figures Summary: Dr. King's best-selling account of the civil rights movement in Birmingham during the spring and summer of 1963 On April 16, 1963, as the violent events of the Birmingham campaign unfolded in the city's streets, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., composed a letter from his prison cell in response to local religious leaders' criticism of the campaign. The resulting piece of extraordinary protest writing, "Letter from Birmingham Jail", was widely circulated and published in numerous periodicals. After the conclusion of the campaign and the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom in 1963, King further developed the ideas introduced in the letter in Why We Can't Wait, which tells the story of African-American activism in the spring and summer of 1963. During this time, Birmingham, Alabama, was perhaps the most racially segregated city in the United States, but the campaign launched by King, Fred Shuttlesworth, and others demonstrated to the world the power of nonviolent direct action. Often applauded as King's most incisive and eloquent book, Why We Can't Wait recounts the Birmingham campaign in vivid detail, while underscoring why 1963 was such a crucial year for the civil rights movement. Disappointed by the slow pace of school desegregation and civil rights legislation, King observed that by 1963 - during which the country celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation - Asia and Africa were "moving with jetlike speed toward gaining political independence but we still creep at a horse-and-buggy pace." King examines the history of the civil rights struggle, noting tasks that future generations must accomplish to bring about full equality, and asserts that African Americans have already waited over three centuries for civil rights and that it is time to be proactive: "For years now, I have heard the word 'Wait!' It rings in the ear of every Negro with piercing familiarity. This 'Wait' has almost always meant 'Never.' We must come to see, with one of our distinguished jurists, that 'justice too long delayed is justice denied.'" Contact: info@hotaudiobook.com

D. Jackson Format: Unabridged Length: 8 hrs and 38 mins Language: English Release date: 01-09-18 Publisher: Beacon Press Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Political Figures Summary: In 1967, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., isolated himself from the demands of the civil rights movement, rented a house in Jamaica with no telephone, and labored over his final manuscript. In this prophetic work, which was unavailable for more than 10 years, he lays out his thoughts, plans, and dreams for America's future, including the need for better jobs, higher wages, decent housing, and quality education. With a universal message of hope that continues to resonate, King demanded an end to global suffering, asserting that humankind - for the first time - has the resources and technology to eradicate poverty. Listen to full audiobooks for free on : https://hotaudiobook.com/free Title: A Gift of Love Author: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Coretta Scott King - foreword, Rev. Dr. Raphael G. Warnock - foreword Narrator: J. D. Jackson Format: Unabridged Length: 7 hrs and 31 mins Language: English Release date: 01-09-18 Publisher: Beacon Press Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Political Figures Summary: The classic collection of 16 sermons preached and compiled by Dr. King As Dr. King prepared for the Birmingham campaign in early 1963, he drafted the final sermons for Strength to Love, a volume of his best-known homilies. King had begun working on the sermons during a fortnight in jail in July 1962. Having been arrested for holding a prayer vigil outside Albany City Hall, King and Ralph Abernathy shared a jail cell for 15 days that was, according to King, ''dirty, filthy, and ill-equipped'' and "the worse I have ever seen." While behind bars, he spent uninterrupted time preparing the drafts for classic sermons such as "Loving Your Enemies", "Love in Action", and "Shattered Dreams", and continued to work on the volume after his release. A Gift of Love includes these classic sermons, along with two new preachings. Collectively they present King's fusion of Christian teachings and social consciousness, and promote his prescient vision of love as a social and political force for change. It is true that the era had its kings, warriors, scholars, and religious leaders, but in many ways, Charlemagne was all of these things. Inside you will hear about.... He conquered land for the Franks and sent in missionaries to convert the pagans to Christianity. He was probably illiterate, but he brought in Europes most renowned scholar, Alcuin of York, to transform education for both clergy and laity. He was much-married and virile, but he cherished his children and provided education for both his sons and his daughters. When he was named the Holy Roman Emperor by Pope Leo III, his title was a Christian benediction for the conquest that unified Western Europe. The unification did not last, but the legend never faded. History for Kids: The Illustrated Life of King Henry VIII by Charles River Editors | Free Audiobook
Listen to full audiobooks for free on : https://hotaudiobook.com/free Title: History for Kids: The Illustrated Life of King Henry VIII Author: Charles River Editors Narrator: Mark Norman Format: Unabridged Length: 29 mins Language: English Release date: 01-04-18 Publisher: Charles River Editors Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Political Figures Summary: Perfect for ages 7-10. In Charles River Editors History for Kids series, your children can learn about historys most important people and events in an easy, entertaining, and educational way. This concise but comprehensive audiobook will keep your kids attention all the way to the end. Over 450 years after his reign, Henry VIII is still the most famous and recognizable King of England, but its for all the wrong reasons. Though well regarded by contemporaries as a learned king and "one of the most charismatic rulers to sit on the English throne", he is best remembered today for his gluttony and multiple marriages, particularly the gruesome way in which he was widowed on more than one occasion. Naturally, that was the focus of the popular Showtime drama series centered around his life, The Tudors. Henry VIII will probably continue to be best known for beheading some of his wives, most notably Anne Boleyn, so it is somewhat fitting that his most decisive act came as a result of a marital mishap. Sharply at odds with the Catholic Church over his attempt to dissolve his marriage with Catherine of Aragon, Henry VIII ultimately broke with the Church and established the Church of England, which forever changed both the religious history of England and the social hierarchy of the nation and its empire. Though the popular perception of his reign has taken hold, King Henry VIII did not start life in any of those ways. In fact, he did not even start life as heir to the English throne. And when he did come to the throne at the age of 18, King Henry VIIIs earliest monarchical years showed his promise as a quintessential renaissance, polymath prince. Even on the religious front, Henry VIII started out believing in the essential Catholic theology, even after the pope and the Vatican excommunicated Henry from the Catholic Church (until then, the undisputed political as well as theological leader of Christendom, from which monarchs often needed various forms of legitimacy). For all these reasons, the manner in which his life and legacy diverge makes him an even more fascinating topic, one that clearly continues to captivate audiences around the world today. History for Kids: An Illustrated Biography of King Henry VIII chronicles Henry VIIIs life and reign, but it also humanizes the man who fashioned himself both an athlete and scholar. Your kids will learn about Henry VIII like never before. Contact: info@hotaudiobook.com

History in 30: The Life of Erwin Rommel, Nazi Germany's Desert Fox by Percy Bennington | Free Audiobook
Listen to full audiobooks for free on : https://hotaudiobook.com/free Title: History in 30: The Life of Erwin Rommel, Nazi Germany's Desert Fox Author: Percy Bennington Narrator: Scott Clem Format: Unabridged Length: 48 mins Language: English Release date: 01-04-18 Publisher: Charles River Editors Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Political Figures Summary: "Be an example to your men in your duty and in private life. Never spare yourself, and let the troops see that you don't in your endurance of fatigue and privation. Always be tactful and well-mannered, and teach your subordinates to be the same. Avoid excessive sharpness or harshness of voice, which usually indicates the man who has shortcomings of his own to hide." - Erwin Rommel The 20th century was a century full of conflict and strife, not seen before on a global scale. While there were multiple conflicts that spanned over many years, the two World Wars marked the century. During both World Wars, the Germans were found on the losing end, but that is not to say that those armies were void of brilliance, quite to the contrary. The German Army of World War I was one of the most well-rounded and destructive war machines in history, and if anything, the death knell to the German side during the First World War was the fact that the Germans had weak allies and spent considerable resources and time to try to prop up other empires like Austria and the Ottoman Turks. World War II was an entirely different story. The Germans were angry after the First World War, and using public sway and anger, Adolf Hitler took power in the 1930s. Unlike the earlier army, the German Army of the Second World War committed some of the most grotesque and unforgivable atrocities in the history of mankind. This isn't to say that the German commanders and soldiers were all bad, and of all the men who fought for the Reich, the one with the most sterling reputation is Erwin Rommel, the Desert Fox. Rommel rose through the ranks of the German Army in the years preceding the outbreak of World War II, and he proved to be a cunning and insinuative soldier who was one of the most brilliant cavalry commanders in the history of warfare. Eventually, the evil that surrounded him engulfed him, and his pure brilliance went untapped. Contact: info@hotaudiobook.com

History in 30: The Life of Dwight D. Eisenhower by Percy Bennington | Free Audiobook
Listen to full audiobooks for free on : https://hotaudiobook.com/free Title: History in 30: The Life of Dwight D. Eisenhower Author: Percy Bennington Narrator: Scott Clem Format: Unabridged Length: 42 mins Language: English Release date: 01-04-18 Publisher: Charles River Editors Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Political Figures Summary: During the middle of the 20th century, the United States completed its transformation into one of the worlds superpowers, and few were as instrumental in this development as Dwight D. Eisenhower (1890-1969), renowned for being the nations principal commanding general during World War II and the president who served during the early, tumultuous Cold War years. A career military man, Ike was too young to serve in combat during World War I, but he began a long and productive career collaborating with future military legends George Patton and Douglas MacArthur while serving some of the nations other famous generals, including George Marshall and John J. Pershing. Amazingly, he had never served in anything but administrative positions before World War II. Eisenhower remained mired in middle management positions until George Marshall, Chief of Staff of the Army, took notice of his skills and began promoting him. By 1942, Eisenhower was given the role of appointed Supreme Commander Allied (Expeditionary) Force in North Africa, and after his success there, Eisenhower oversaw the invasion of Sicily in 1943, which at the time had been the largest amphibious invasion in history. With those successes, President Roosevelt picked Eisenhower to be the Supreme Allied Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force, leaving him in charge of Operation Overlord and the defining moment of his military career, D-Day. Like many before him, his successes in the war made him a natural candidate for president, and he was offered plum political spots by both parties before winning the presidency as a Republican in 1952. Despite being one of Americas oldest presidents, Eisenhower redefined the public relations nature of the office, in addition to positioning America during the Cold War standoff with the Soviet Union. But Eisenhowers most lasting contribution as president was the construction of the interstate highway system, and it was in the final year of his presidency that his administration planned and implemented the Apollo space program that would land men on the Moon in 1969. History in 30: The Life of Dwight D. Eisenhower provides a quick but comprehensive look at the life of the general and president. Contact: info@hotaudiobook.com

Throughout world history, there have been countless famous statesmen from all across the world. The true colors and talents of a statesman usually shine through in the most difficult of circumstances, and the most difficult circumstance that any world leader faces is warfare. The 20th century was a century of almost constant warfare, from the Russo-Japanese War, World War I, World War II, the Korean Conflict, the Vietnam War, the strife and fighting in the Middle East, and the American War on terrorism. It was a century where men and women were pushed to their limits. One man shines above the rest, a man who used his wit, intelligence, and drive to bring not only his beloved England through the worst of times, but also helped save democracy for the entire world. Winston Spencer Churchill led England through her darkest hours, became a champion against fascism and communism, and helped secure western civilization. It was not always easy going, as Churchill went through disgrace in his early career and was forced to rebuild his reputation, brick by brick. It did not always seem that Churchill was destined for this greatness as he spent many years in the political wilderness of Britain because of his refusal to conform and "play the game", so to speak. But, as usual, the power of personality and the strength of character shone through and won the day. Indeed, without Churchill, one could argue that the fate of democracy in the world might have suffered a different fate. Churchill was the driving force behind the British resistance to the Nazi onslaught during World War II, using his power of personality and his brilliance as a world leader. Churchill remained a shining light of democracy during Europes darkest hour. History in 30: The Life of Winston Churchill provides a quick but comprehensive look at the British prime minister. Simmons Narrator: Alan Munro Format: Unabridged Length: 4 hrs and 10 mins Language: English Release date: 12-27-17 Publisher: Make Profits Easy LLC Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Political Figures Summary: Mary Stuart became the Queen of Scots when she was only a week old. While she was still a baby, Henry VIII burned and pillaged the Scottish countryside to force her betrothal to his son Edward. The skillful politicking of her mother, Marie de Guise, resulted in Marys betrothal to the son of the French king when Mary was five years old. She was sent to France to be educated as a French princess. There, "the little Queen" was adored and admired. But when her husband died a year after succeeding to his fathers throne, Mary surrendered to duty and left her beloved France behind to return to the homeland she barely remembered, and be Queen of the Scots in deed as well as in name. Six years, two disastrous marriages, two sordid murders, and one abduction later, Mary Stuart went from being an adored and popular young queen to being the most hated woman in Scotland. Taken captive by her own lords and nobles, she was forced to abdicate the throne. A daring escape in the middle of the night led to a heroic last stand against her enemies. In the end, however, the last queen of Scotland was forced to take refuge with the most dangerous woman in Britain: Elizabeth I. Contact: info@hotaudiobook.com

Kim Jong-il: The Controversial Life and Legacy of North Koreas Second Supreme Leader by Charles River Editors | Free Audiobook
Listen to full audiobooks for free on : https://hotaudiobook.com/free Title: Kim Jong-il: The Controversial Life and Legacy of North Koreas Second Supreme Leader Author: Charles River Editors Narrator: Dan Gallagher Format: Unabridged Length: 1 hr and 39 mins Language: English Release date: 12-22-17 Publisher: Charles River Editors Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Political Figures Summary: "When General Kim Jong-il was born, the clouds opened up, and he came down from heaven, and then there was a huge snowstorm! When General Kim Jong-il shouts out loud, storms always happen, huge storms always happen!" - "Dear Leader," a state-issued anthem dedicated to Kim Jong-il North Korea has long been the butt of jokes, and it has been a longstanding target of international criticism, but the startling satellite image was anything but amusing, for it demonstrated the truly catastrophic conditions North Koreans find themselves in. Statistics show that the average South Korean uses up to 10,162 kilowatt hours of power per year, whereas their neighbors in the north consume only 739. This is only one amongst a slew of stumbling blocks affecting the state, impeding it from proper progress. The mismatching network of sprawling, yet lifeless cities and squalid, poverty-stricken provinces stands eerily silent next to the bustling metropolises on either side of it. North Korea is trapped in an impenetrable, soundproof bubble, the entire state frozen in time. Notwithstanding a fractional sliver of the capital, where the Supreme Commander and the North Korean elites resided, the faded Pyongyang skyline and its blocky, monotone buildings - while a vast improvement from the rest of the state - seemed to be lifted straight out of the '70s at best. So why is North Korea so starkly different from its neighbors when nothing more but mere borders separate them? A tyrannical lineage secured by nepotism. An entire nation indoctrinated by chilling, mindboggling propaganda, molded by fear and forced ignorance. Mass purges doled out seemingly on whims, without fair trials. Unparalleled paranoia and cold-blooded assassinations left and right, seemingly around every curve and corner. Contact: info@hotaudiobook.com
