The Destinations Podcast With Elleyne Aldine: Breaking Fashion Rules with Koya Nyangi: From Resilience to the African Creators Festival
What happens when your dream event collapses weeks before launch? For cultural producer, stylist, and creative director Koya Nyanyi, it became the spark for something bigger — the African Creators Festival, now a global celebration of African innovation. In this inspiring conversation, Koya shares: * How she turned a cancelled partnership into a community-led fashion show. * Why fashion is more than clothes — it’s wearable art and storytelling. * The power of curiosity, experimentation, and “f*ing it up a little” in style and in life. * How African designers are redefining sustainability with deadstock denim and zero-waste fashion. * Why collaboration across cultures is essential for creativity and resilience.

The Destinations Podcast with Doni Aldine: Brianne Kirkpatrick Williams on Being a Genetic Counselor
This episode of the Destinations Podcast with Doni Aldine features genetic counselor Brianne Kirkpatrick Williams. Kirkpatrick Williams talks about how she became a genetic counselor and how she helps people both find their biological parents as well as deal with finding out the people they thought were their biological parents aren't actually their biological parents. "There are many different people impacted by one person's conception," she says. "And everybody needs support because you can't support the person in the middle if you aren't understanding everyone around them and the type of experience that they're having." In working with people who have been adopted, Kirkpatrick Williams has also worked with adoptive parents. She has witnessed a lot of similar experiences and emotions and some that are very different. "What I've learned with working with people on all different sides is that finding your community and other people who understand is the number one most important thing," she says, "followed by working with a counselor, a therapist, or a coach when the time is right for that person. And understanding that Rome wasn't built in a day." The Destinations Podcast with Doni Aldine: Kadija Taylor and Her Trinidad and Tobago Tablescape
In this episode, Culturs Home columnist Kadija Taylor showcases a tablescape of Trinidad and Tobago. Taylor's tablescape features the Ibis, the national bird of Trinidad, whose long neck and flowing curves evoke a feminine feel, while at the same time its stature evokes a masculine feel, making it "almost a little bit androgynous," she says. "I think that's important that when you're hosting you want to make sure that everyone feels welcome … and represented," she adds. Making sure your tablescape has more than one color gives it a particular vibrancy, according to Taylor. Destinations with Doni: Interview with Megan Nortan
On this Destination: Relationships. As a Third Culture Kid (TCK), how do you connect with other people without sounding arrogant or elitist or turning them off? How long does it -- or should it -- take to get a sense of belonging? How do you describe who you are without saying you're a TCK? How do you talk to your family -- nuclear or extended -- about your identity as a TCK? Is the term "Third Culture Kid" more prevalent now than it was years ago? Third Culture Kid author, consultant and researcher Megan Norton delves into these questions in this episode of the Destinations With Doni podcast. "Foundationally, a story is not complete until it is told, heard and understood," she says. For more info about her "A Culture Story" podcast and her new book "Belonging Beyond Borders: How Adult Third Culture Kids Can Cultivate a Sense of Belonging," go to adultthirdculturekid.com.

Destinations with Doni: Interview with Kahlea Hunt-Khabir
On this Destination: Community. If you're a light-skinned black woman, are you treated differently in the United States than if your skin tone were darker? What if you traveled to, say, South Africa or Brazil? What if you're a member of the academic community? Would one institution treat you differently than another? Kahlea Hunt-Khabir, a PhD candidate at the University of Maryland, a racial equity consultant and one of the co-founders of ForeverWriot, answers these questions on this episode of the Destinations With Doni podcast. "I look at ways in which people pacify me because I'm a light-skinned black woman who is more subversive and they want to care for me in ways that they don't want to care for my darker-skinned counterparts and what that means as far as making space for other black women and what responsibilities do lighter-skinned black women ... and folks in general have to actually share their privilege." Check out Hunt-Khabir's documentary "Seeking Grace: Black Women Finding Self at the University of Denver" about Grace Mabel Andrews, the first Black woman from Colorado to receive a Bachelor of Arts from DU.
