How South Central Ambulance Services Used Data to Improve Patient Care Ft. Simon Mortimore
Welcome to the Data Strategy Gurus podcast! In this episode, we have a special guest, Simon Mortimore, the assistant director of Business Information at the South Central Ambulance Services in the UK. Simon shares his journey of using data to improve patient care and how they collaborated with technology partner, Qlik, to develop solutions that align better with the business needs. From creating user-friendly dashboards to teaching supervisors about data analysis, Simon emphasizes the importance of aligning data and information with decision-making processes. He also highlights the role of the Qlik community and their strategic partners in supporting the organization. Join us as we explore how data-driven strategies have transformed ambulance services and how collaboration can drive innovation in the healthcare industry. ---- Simon Mortimore is a senior manager at South Central Ambulance (SCAS) and has been working there for eight years. When he joined, SCAS was already using Qlik software for business intelligence purposes, but Simon believed that the existing solutions did not effectively meet the needs of end users. He worked closely with Qlik and their partners, Differentiator and Infinity, to develop solutions that aligned better with the business objectives. Simon's focus was on providing managers with the right information in their dashboards to support decision-making and improve processes and quality. SCAS handles around 2.6 million clinical contacts annually and provides services across various departments, including clinical, finance, and HR. Simon is passionate about leveraging data and information to drive effective management and supervisory practices. He spearheaded initiatives such as using real-time data from the telephony platform to create scatter plots, or "smartygrams," to help supervisors monitor call takers' performance. Simon also emphasized the importance of tailoring information sets to different levels of the organization. As a senior manager, he ensured that board-level reports only included time series data of 30 days or more, considering shorter timescales to be too tactical. Simon appreciates Qlik's technology for consistently meeting their challenges and credits the strong partnership with Qlik and their strategic partners for the success of their initiatives.
