On October 28th, 1943, the US Navy participated in an experiment involving the USS Eldridge, a Navy escort ship, at the Philadelphia Navy Yard in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The experiment was intended to test the capability of rendering a Naval ship invisible to enemy radar. The results of the experiment would be so catastrophic that the Navy and the federal government buried all knowledge of the test.
