The Daily Reckoning — or the ‘DR’ as it’s affectionately known — has been in the business of reporting financial trends that matter since 1999. In those humble beginnings more than 20 years ago, we first set ourselves apart by adopting a ‘fat tail’ philosophy in the way we research and report ideas to our readers. What does this mean? Let me explain… If you look at the distribution of events — in the markets and in life — you’ll see that there’s a natural bell curve. The most likely to happen events bunch in the middle. But out at the ends of the curve, where the rare events are registered, there are small bumps and bulges. Statisticians refer to these bulges on the extremities of bell-shaped curves as ‘fat tails’. Instead of tailing off as they are supposed to, the rare events seem to swell up, where you don’t expect them. These are ideas that sit on the edge of emerging trends, and are positioned well to garner spectacular results for those game enough to place a bet…
