Why chasing health goals is so difficult.

Have you been told you should walk? Maybe that’s what’s getting in the way.

In this episode

  • What is getting in the way of you walking? 0:02
    • What can be getting in the way of you walking is how you are talking to yourself about it, such as external-focused words such as should have.
  • Why do you not follow through on your health goals? 1:28
    • A lot of people take up positive healthy habits after a major scare, but many of them find it too difficult to consolidate the changes.
  • Letting go of excuses, barriers and reasons for not following through with a health commitment . 2:32
    • Your mind loves to 'help' you by using words of 'encouragement' - telling you you have to, need to, must, and should, do things. This is counterproductive.
    • Hands up if you love it when people tell you what to do.
    • The first step is letting go of excuses, barriers, reasons and instead focus on the language you are using.
  • Owning your thoughts and feelings. 5:26
    • The next step is to own the thoughts and feelings that are coming up, and how you feel when you write them.
  • Creating a space for choice. 7:13
    • A brain dump gives you clarity and leaves space for choice.
    • The next step is to play with decision and choice words and see how they sound.
