Welcome to Confucianism in the Modern World! My name is Juan Venancio, and I’m a current sophomore at Harvard University studying government and economics. Prologue: Confucius (Kong Zi)
Confucius was an ancient Chinese philosopher that lived in one of the most violent and tumultuous eras of China more than 2000 years ago in the Warring States Period. Confucianism was the product of Confucius’ lifetime of learning and is a collection of proverbs that many of Confucius’ students wrote in what today is known as the Analects. As we dive into Confucianism’s main teachings, I challenge you to engage with this material and attempt to apply this to your own lives.
