This season will address our addiction and allegiance to coffee and fun facts around coffee culture. There will be shorter content for a little sip. Also there will be robust conversation and stories around nostalgia and unique experiences like a coffee meditation. Think of it as our dark roast together. Either way, Coffee is the new black!

Company culture was a hot topic in 2020 due to the worldwide work from home the pandemic imposed on us. My show was born into that conversation. Enter Seth Godin and his book, ‘This is Marketing’. He said one line that shifted the axis of my show from conversations about company culture from the C suite to emerging leaders.
What was that line? Culture is strategy.
Since entire companies conducted business in their kitchens, the rise of no bullshit work life balance was not just important, but critical. This impacted the growing mental health issues that piggybacked the pandemic. Now we find ourselves with many conversations from quiet quitting to what leadership can be. Can we shift more than the narrative and create the best job you ever had?
Seth Godin is the author of 21 international bestsellers that have changed the way people think about work. His latest book, and soon to be his 22nd bestseller, is The Song of Significance.
Godin writes one of the most popular marketing blogs in the world, and two of his TED talks are among the most popular of all time. He is the founder of the altMBA, the social media pioneer with Squidoo, and Yoyodyne, one of the first internet companies.
At this critical juncture in business and culture, I'm excited to have THE Seth Godin on my show. Join me, as he ushers in powerful lessons for business in The Song of Significance.
Gregory Lay is an Actor, Writer, Producer and Small Business Owner. He was raised in a New Jersey suburb right outside of New York City. He attended Boston University Film School and the Neighborhood Playhouse School of Theater in NYC. He’s appeared in numerous TV shows such as Law and Order SVU and Person of Interest and worked in feature films alongside Matt Damon and Richard Masur. He has written a dozen commercials and two feature films, Lonely Boys and Hudson currently available everywhere. He writes, produces and stars in his own TV show Greg in LA which has been in development across social media platforms. He also owns one of the most successful up and coming cheesecake companies, East Side Cheesecakes which he started in 2020 when the world shut down. He works and lives in Los Angeles, CA
Sean Daniel Cunningham is an award winning writer and director of commercials and films. A New York native living in Los Angeles, his work is defined by its subtle comedy and huge heart.
Sean was nominated for a Young Director Award at Cannes Lions. His short film, This is When We Met, was featured on tastemakers Short of the Week and the Oscar-qualifying Festival, Hollyshorts.
Sean’s feature film Hudson, a dramedy starring Richard Masur, is streaming on Amazon Prime and Apple TV.
He's currently working on a dramedy series, Greg in LA, which recently caught some attention after going viral on social media.
Little fact: Sean is a singer songwriter too. @Lonesomemotel on Instagram. It has a Lumineers or Mumford & Son vibe. Go listen!
Do you continue to submit your music to commercials or movies?
Your music is in Hudson, will you try to feature your music in all of your movies?
How did you start in film?
Let's talk about Greg in LA, my new favorite bingeable series. I had Gregory on my show. You and he have an incredible chemistry working together. You shoot spontaneously, sometimes several episodes at a time. You start with an idea that he finishes and vice versa. That's rare in the business wouldn't you say?
What would be a dream project you could create?
Season 3 is coming soon. How is Greg evolving in this one?
Will we ever meet Beth or will she forever be a figment of our imagination?

Laura Cathcart Robbins turned a viral essay into a podcast called The Only One In the Room. And she turned her pain into pages with a memoir called Stash, My Life in Hiding that's out now!
When she was 44 Laura Cathcart Robbins got sober. That was almost 15 years ago. In the recovery community, it's all about meeting for coffee, it's coffee after the meeting, it's coffee before the meeting. It's coffee. That's how you connect, because we don't meet for drinks anymore, right? Every coffee house became like a haven for her during that time, especially those first couple years.
Along with these topics we talk about her new Bestseller where she turned her pain into pages:
Stash, My Life in Hiding (links to buy in the show notes)

12. All the natural receptors to sleep and survive were bludgeoned with Ambien and alcohol
13. Doctors were lenient because she was good at building a facade, she's dismantling the buildings every day
14. Our identity labels, part of a couple (wife), and how buying milk was the moment she lost her sense of 'self' and had an existential crisis or maybe just a realization. Treated differently even as the ex-husband wife, receiving perks from the marriage, being the Mom of the kids from that marriage. Ego feeding identities. Being on a pedestal in her community. Then to rehab, challenged for the perfect motherhood, divorce, no job, no identity.
15. Invitations to baby showers, wedding showers and spa days: saying yes when you don't want to. The power of saying no.
16. The power of saying Yes and No

My show was created around the idea that we all crave connection. And that we use the coffee meetup as a tool to see each other. It’s about being together, not the caffeine hit.
Humans are social creatures. We have an innate need for connection. Whether it's with family, friends, or strangers, we crave social interaction and companionship. Yes, I said strangers, because regardless of whether you are introverted or extroverted, the need for connection is in you. You are hard-wired for this. This need for connection has been studied extensively, and the results show just how important it is for our mental health and wellbeing. In this episode, we'll explore the innate need for connection in humans, and how studies on mental health and hospitality back this up.
Coffee is a beverage with a long history and a rich cultural heritage. As such, there are many traditions and rituals associated with drinking coffee around the world. Here are a few examples:
Ceremonies: In many cultures, coffee is not just a beverage, but an important part of social and cultural rituals. In Ethiopia, for example, coffee ceremonies are a traditional part of daily life, with coffee being prepared and served in a specific way and often accompanied by traditional music and food.
Leisure: In many Western countries, coffee is often associated with leisure and socializing. People often use coffee shops as a place to meet friends, work on projects, or simply relax and enjoy a cup of coffee.
Hospitality: In many cultures, coffee is considered a symbol of hospitality and is often served to guests as a sign of welcome and generosity. In the Middle East, for example, serving coffee is a sign of hospitality, and in some countries, it's a tradition to offer coffee to guests as soon as they arrive.
Religion: Some religious rituals are also associated with coffee. In monasteries, monks often drink coffee to help keep them awake during long hours of prayer.
Work: In many countries, coffee is often consumed during work hours, and it is seen as a way to increase productivity.
Today I'm going to talk about a thorny or topic, we're going to get into brewing troubles and explore the challenges in the coffee supply chain. So there are several issues and problems that can occur throughout the coffee supply chain. And I explored this in my episode about Illegal Trade and Organized Crime with Coffee. There, I touched on some of those pain points, and I will put a link in the show notes for that episode. But onto our brewing challenges. So labor exploitation is one of them. And it is a persistent problem in the coffee industry, particularly in developing countries where the majority of coffee is grown.
There are several movies that feature coffee and the coffee industry as a central theme or plot element. I will share a few examples. I do love coffee as you know, but I’m obsessed with cooking shows. Oftentimes they cook with coffee!
I recently binged the Big Brunch with Dan Levy. You’ll love that one if you love brunch and espresso martinis! Plus he’s so sweet and the challenges are scrumptious!
Do you remember the movie HER that was shot with Joaquin Phoenix and directed by Spike Jones? Coffee is a popular ingredient in spa treatments because it is rich in antioxidants and has a number of benefits for the skin. Some popular coffee-based spa treatments include:

Did you know that light roast has more caffeine than dark roast!!!
We all know coffee is a complex mixture of chemicals that give the beverage its unique aroma, taste and effects on the body. The main active ingredient in coffee is caffeine, which is a natural stimulant. It's my favorite one. When consumed, caffeine is absorbed by the stomach and small intestine and then passes into the bloodstream. It then travels to the brain where it blocks the action of a neurotransmitter called adenosine. This helps to promote sleep and relaxation. This results in increased alertness and energy as well as improved mood and cognitive function.

Hi Coffee Culture family! My topic today is can you drink coffee while intermittent fasting, the benefits and the risks. I've personally tried intermittent fasting. It's purported to set the stage for a longer life, a leaner body and a sharper mind. More modern day warriors seeking health hacks are trying to improve the sharpness of their minds and are using it by creating a 10 to 14 hour window where they do not consume food. I've had success by incorporating it into my sleeping hours.
