This week, Elyse and Laurent sit down with Eric Toms, writer and star of "My Dad's Kid," a play about distant half-siblings who unexpectedly leave an indelible mark on each others' lives currently running at the Beverly Hills Playhouse.
Los Angeles is known as a hub for actors, writers, film makers, and stars, but in the recent film slump, is Hollywood looking to pivot toward something more experiential? Eric Toms is betting on it. Actor, playwright, and community builder Eric Toms has built his career on creating networks for actors and writers to stay sharp and flex their creative muscles without the need for big studios or pricey festivals.
Host of Second Draft and founder of Night of Shorts Night, Toms creates connections between creatives in-person, allowing LA to become the backdrop, not the border wall, for creators to work together and support each others' art by sharing our most valuable asset--our attention.
Toms encourages fellow actors to "write it yourself," urging young creatives to create their own opportunities and support their fellow artists by simply showing up.
"The hardest part of theater is getting butts in seats." Elyse, a fellow performer with her own one-woman-show, could not agree more.
Support your local theater!!
