Ep. 94 - Brett Newton (RehearseNow.AI)
All actors will want to listen to this episode: Growing up in Long Valley, NJ, Brett was encouraged to pursue his dreams, and pursue he did! Residing within driving distance of New York City, he sought after theater, became a professional tap dancer and theater acting before making his move to Los Angeles by the age of 19. Over the years, he’s enhanced his craft to include a professional actor, producer and director, with hundreds of credits. With his company LA Reels, he and his former business partner created one of the first demo reel companies (shooting original content for actors’ reels, filming over 4000 scenes in the last 12 years). Now, he’s developed a site to help actors rehearse with an AI partner 24/7, called RehearseNow.Ai . The site allows actors to upload their script and choose an AI rehearsal partner to go over the scene with and the partner responds in real time. I was actually talking about something like this with a friend of mine and Brett had already created it, so I had to bring him on to hear more about this. We talk a lot about movies, the future of filmmaking and more!
From October 5th-25th, RehearseNow.AI is  running a contest The A.I. Scene Partner Challenge in which actors submit their best audition using www.RehearseNow.AI . Scripts will be provided by LA Reels. Top 10 Actors chosen will do a meet and greet with three professional casting and the top actor chosen wins $1000! Use the code “Classic” to use the service free for a month!
Check out www.RehearseNow.AI for more details.

Ep. 93 - Run (2025)
I was thrilled to see that Tubi movies are finally getting their chance in the theaters. Why not? All the strikes, super hero movies, MCU, remakes, reimaginings, sequels, prequels, DCEU and everything in between, let’s have the little guys have their time.
Run is arguably the best time in the theater I’ve had in a few months and it’s solely on the unintentional humor, acting, directing and everything that made me love seeing bad movies in the theaters!

Ep 92 - Grazia Tricarico (Body Odyssey)
I came across Grazia’s masterpiece of cinema Body Odyssey and was immediately blown away. The story, the acting and everything was like if David Lynch and David Cronenberg made a film about female body building. I know how that sounds and, I had to have her on the pod to talk. Because I was part of multiple people interviewing her, I only had 20 mins to chat, but, as you could tell I could easily talk for another hour. If you can get a chance, check out Body Odyssey, now making the rounds at film festivals.

Ep. 91 - Trust
What in the name of Tubi Original’s is this? Just when you thought Flight Risk was the biggest stinker of the year, Trust says “Hold my beer!” Sophie Tuner’s latest movie about disgusting men grooming children in the film industry to lure them into sexual relationships is getting the thumbs down from almost all critics. Why? Well, because no one sees that part in the movie and are too busy focussed on all the silly aspects of it like the logistics of how doors work and rats carrying hammers. I wish that was a joke.

Ep. 90 - The Naked Gun (2025)
In a world of sequels, requels, remakes and reimaging, is there any surprise that “The Naked Gun” wouldn’t come back? Well, this one was really good and I had a blast watching and recording it! If you like slapstick and silly, then please go see this movie ASAP. It's fun, self aware and, dammit, it’s the movie we need today. Kick back and be prepared to laugh.

Ep. 89 - I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025)
Wow! This movie was bad. Has it been 28 years since the original I Know What You Did Last Summer? Well, the movie I thought was going to be the hit of the summer turns out to be a giant stinker filler with unlikable characters, dumb dialogue (even for slashers) and dumber situations. The whole Summer is a mess of a movie and although I hate talking bad about movies, it’s impossible with this one.

Ep. 88 - Top Cannon and Carolco movies Part 2! (with Ukrainian film critic/author Davyd Klimov)
We’re back to discuss more Cannon and Carolco movies! Ukrainian film critic, author and now podcaster, Davyd Klimov joins me to discuss our favorite films from the cult companies. It's hard not to love 80's action flicks and it's about time I had a discussion on them.
When you’re done with the pod, check out his book To Watch, or Not To Watch, which is filled with reviews that Klimov recommends and … doesn’t. Klimov is very knowledgable critic and if this podcast doesn't convince you to buy his book, then check it out anyways.

Ep. 87 - I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) Re-release
A few years back I did a thorough breakdown of one of my favorite slasher flicks of the 90’s: “I Know What You Did Last Summer”. To celebrate the requel coming out, I decided to rerelease the episode! Kick back and enjoy a classic episode as my wife Miriam and I talk about all things 90’s horror, who Freddie Prinze Jr. is and everything you should know about “I Know What You Did Last Summer”!

Ep. 86 - F1: The Movie
If you’ve seen a movie in the last month, or have used an Apple product, then you’ve seen the trailer for “F1: The Movie”. I’m going to be honest and say that I didn’t have much hope for this. Brad Pitt as an aging driver showing a young hotshot (Damson Idris) the ropes on professional F1 Driving didn’t scream excitement for me. However, I was wrong! This movie with the tired trope of “passing the torch to the younger generation” was exactly what I needed in ta movie right now. Combine that with razor sharp cinematography and a fun soundtrack and you have a kick ass time in the theaters!

Ep. 85 - Top Cannon and Carolco movies (with Ukrainian film critic/author Davyd Klimov)
Growing up in the late 80’s and early 90’s, everyone was in love with Cannon and Carolco movies. When your mind thinks of 80’s action movies, the first movies that come to mind is from one of those production companies. I met Ukrainian author and film critic Davyd Klimov after he reviewed my proof of concept Bishop’s Day. His honest criticism of movies and love of cinema made me want to bring him on the pod and chat like true film nerds. He and I had a lot of things to talk about, so kick back  and be prepared to get a lot of info on 80’s action and more! When you’re done with the pod, check out his book To Watch, or Not To Watch, which is filled with reviews that Klimov recommends and … doesn’t.

Ep. 84 - 28 Years Later
It’s been 23 years since 28 Days Later and 18 years since 28 Weeks Later; does the franchise have anything left in it? Well, I thought so!
Instead of a zombie flick, writer Alex Garland crafted a very in-depth look at the rite of passage in society and having to do the right thing even when you’re not old enough to comprehend what that means. I bet you didn't see that coming!

Ep. 83 - Karate Kid: Legends
Welcome to the mini pods, where it’s just me (Chris) talking about my thoughts on a new movie. Usually the pods have more in-depth research, these are more just like me and minor research.
Karate Kid is back and more kung fu-er than ever! Why is this about kung fu and not karate? Well .. you saw the remake, yeah? Anyways, kind of a strange installment in the Kid franchise that doesn’t really use the characters as much as they should and really doesn’t explore the big tournament like one would expect. The love interest is there, as well as her dad, a tutor and a pizza shop. Although I love seeing Jackie Chan and anything Karate Kid related, this movie left me empty and confused.

Ep. 82 - Final Destination: Bloodlines - mini pod
It’s been 14 years since the last Final Destination flick and does this franchise still have life left? Are the deaths as gross and fun as before or did we finally reach our destination? Well, I really liked it and think everyone who wants to relax and have a fun time at the theaters (how long has it been since we did that?) to go see Final Destination: Bloodlines as soon as possible! Buy popcorn, soda, chuckles, enjoy yourself!

Ep. 81 - Urban Legend (Clay is back)
The 90’s were such a wonderful time for horror. 1996 In particular really kickstarted a new wave of horror, especially the rebirth of slashers. Yes, we all know Scream but there was firehose of teens getting butchered in the late 90’s to 2000’s and Urban Legend was one of the most memorable ones starring a who’s who of teen icons! Friend of the pod (and good friend of mine) Clay joins me to discuss real Urban Legends, working on film sets, other movies and so very much more! Ep. 80 - The Surfer - mini pod
The Surfer is one of those movies that comes around once in a few years that seems like it is a basic thriller but has so much more going on. Straight out of Dublin, Ireland, Director Lorcan Finnegan and writer Thomas Martin craft a thriller that moves towards midnight dark comedy about The Surfer (Nicolas Cage) who desperately wants to buy his childhood home on a beach in Australia. Locals aren't thrilled about this and thus the psychedelic deep search for sanity begins. I loved it and am encouraging everyone to see it as soon as they can.

Ep. 79 - Putting "Pears" on a Burger
Frequent guest and friend of the pod, Ryan "Burger" McCurdy wrote and directed a wonderful throwback to detective flicks called “Pears”. The movie was made in his hometown in Evansville, Indiana and I loved it! To celebrate it’s release on Tubi, I had Burger back on the pod to chat about the making of it. Per usual, we talk about everything and anything and Burger gives an in-depth look at indie filmmaking.

Ep. 78 - On Swift Horses - mini pod
Stanford teacher Shannon Pufhal’s debut novel about 1950’s America and the restraints on being gay was raved in the LA Times as being “a remarkable spell. [She] embraces noir’s mood while weaving in a love story,” by Mark Athitakis. Other reviewers found the novel so boring and bland they had to read the bulk of it in one sitting because they couldn't fathom picking it up again.
The movie version lies somewhere in the middle. I felt the characters had no arcs, motivations were out the window and when things go bad, the response is “What can I do? Amiright?” However, the costumes were amazing and it had decent acting, given the dialogue was all over the place.
“Horses” is a film that wants to explore the restrictions of being gay in a straight, conservative world, but feels more like a hangout flick where the characters rarely come in conflict. They never come to a conclusion, or if they do, it doesn’t make sense.

Ep. 77 - Drop - mini pod
Christopher Landon's latest flick is the trailer you've seen if you've been to the theaters in the last month. In fact, the running joke on Reddit is the trailer for Drop should show before the actual movie that way we can get the full circle experience. I'm not going to lie: I was pretty convinced the movie either: A) Didn't exist or B) Was a real stinker. Turns out I was wrong on both counts!
Since this is a mini pod, the episode is me talking about my thoughts on the film and doing some light info with ciritic reviews. I felt like doing these, because there were certain movies I would watch and deem them necessary of having more than just a written review. Enjoy!

Ep. 75 - The Luckiest Man in America - mini pod
The movie that is making some noise at the indie level is about the scandal that rocked 1984: Michael Larson took on Press Your Luck and walked away with $110,237 (roughly $339,000) in cash and prizes! Although the movie has a fun idea, there really isn't enough meat on the bones of this, but I still wanted to talk about it.
Join in the fun as I talk about 1984, the culture of the time and what led to Larson never landing on the dreaded whammy in his 47 spins!
