Another season is over, another champion. Chicago Beef League in seemingly the 27th year of operation. Congrats to John and his Cambodia Flying Canucks in winning their 8th championship. Makes me realize he's good at this thing. Or a witch. Yea, a witch. One of those two things. Anyway, we discuss the incredibly close matchup and briefly ramble on learnings/takeaways plus a moment on 2026 favorites (not Suneel).
We're leaving together
But still it's farewell
And maybe we'll come back
To Earth, who can tell?
I guess there is no one to blame
We're leaving ground (leaving ground)
Will things ever be the same again
Its the final countdown
4 teams went in, 2 came out. Alas, one matchup was so close it came down to the OBP of the last batter of the NYY v BOS matchup. The other matchup wasn't as close but still leads us to a finals where we all think there's some sort of Winnetka Wicken thing going on, and basically David v Goliath. Go David!
Minor technical issue....re-posted!
In another devastating blow to the league, John and Mike won their matchups (ok, fine they were byes). In more important news, Josh UPSETS Jay. Jay's performance was absolutely baffling and he will be reeling for weeks to come in the offseason. Ken beats Suneel with a stronger pitching side. Suneel really should be more careful with Ohtani, he deserves better...Anyway, onto the Semis! We feature our almost always perfect picks and THE BONES have spoken. Listen in to hear the fate of the teams in the Semis!
Week 22 is a wrap, where Battle of Evermore sneakily wins in Gap (vs Jr) and Cambodia Flying Canucks beats Mexikens to win the bat. Aleks is calling for an investigation of the Winnetka Wiccan coalition as there can't possibly be any other explanation for this season's turnout. Obvs. In other news, Mike wins the pick'em in a triumphant comeback over Chip. Onto the Playoffs, where Aleks is inexplicably supporting Suneel (over Ken) and Jr over Jay. Sigh. Let the games begin!
Its almost time for the playoffs. Week 20 is in the books and only one more until stuff gets super-duper real. No fairies were killed in the making here. Chip even makes a fairly coherent statement!
Week 20 wraps and we only have 2 weeks left before the playoffs. The Brute Squad is finally eliminated from the playoff race and that leaves us with 7 teams for 6 spots. The top 4 are separating themselves and vying for the top spot from Phoenix Rises. All the favorites won, so the picks were easy, but Team Sunicle, with the loss to Battle of Evermore, is the 7th team on the outside looking in. We review week 21 matchups and take a peek at how week 22 looks too.
Week 19 is a wrap and Chip (incorrectly) calls Aleks' season over. Somehow Mike storms back with the picks, now tied atop with Chip. We wrapped with week 20 picks (and 21 by mistake) and nonsense for it all to finally end.
I hope you buckle up, we have so much to share with you. We lead off by recapping the highlights of the MLB trade deadline (we disagree on the Dodgers), we discuss the incredibly close week 18, and recap our baseball trip to see games in SF (Giants) & Sacramento (As) with Chip's son Matty. Fun time all around.
We recap the results of week 17 and gloss over Ferni Willow's DESTRUCTION over Trustee Rhino....yea, no one cares about that. We mostly discuss the 4 obvious playoff-bound teams (everyone with me! Phoenix Rises, The Mexikens, Battle of Evermore and Cambodia Flying Canucks) and bicker on how Chip should trade a vet keeper. It was riveting. Not really.
I wrote something snazzy, snappy, and altogether classy here and the Fates decided to overwrite it all with a Refresh. Oh well. We recap week 16 and its short week, and look ahead to the assuredly eventful week 17 matchups. OK look, we did but it wasn't as comical as we hoped. We're doing our best! Enjoy!
We jump right in and immediately recap week 15 (UPSET central!). And because of the MLB All-Star game, week 16 is a short and sweet week. We make predictions and spend a few minutes on the All-Star game, what we liked, didn't, etc. We close with Aleks' battle against his enemies in his backyard, putting MouseBlocker finally to use.
Well, week 14 is a wrap and the playoff picture is fairly clear. The pick'em between Aleks, Mike and Chip is as close as it can be (although, NOT a competition). We evaluate the rash of trades and the BIG upset of the week, but otherwise, we just have fun for a typical Sunday. Isn't THAT special....
Clearer separation between playoff bound teams and rebuilders now and getting closer to a magic number. 4 teams nearly certainly in and 2 more on cusp. We recap week 13 and somehow someone went 6-0 in picks. We briefly discussed rebuilding for Ferni Willow, and Brute Squad, but more to come.
9 weeks left and 5 weeks until the trade deadline.
So much airhorn. We discussed week 12 and preview week 13 but, soooooo much airhorn
We discussed matchups and discussed who should buy/sell. But its our midway point of the 2025 Chicago Beef League season, so lets keep the focus:
Hey
Don't write yourself off yet
It's only in your head you feel left out or looked down on
Just try your best
Try everything you can
And don't you worry what they tell themselves when you're away
It just takes some time, little girl
You're in the middle of the ride
Everything, everything will be just fine
Everything, everything will be all right, all right"The Middle" by Jimmy Eat World
Get your trades in! Don't be last!
With Aleks in Raleigh, we finally got him awake to record. Week 10 was a refreshing change for some teams. Others not. The hottest team lost to the newly hottest team, Ferni Willow finally broke a slump and we had some other matchups apparently. We look into week 11 and realize Chip is still in 1st place in our pick'em. Despite it "not being a competition", Aleks is still groaning about it. And we wrap with some nonsense about Aleks' love of Mormonism.
Its about time to call it a wrap for Vishnu and the Spearmint Rhino. But first we get into week 9, somehow Aleks' went 6-0 in picks, like when Billy Madison debated that one time. Ken and Mike's continue their HOT runs as the top teams in the league. We spend a few minutes reviewing the Spearmint Rhino and potential next steps on that roster. We appreciate the commish's decision here. We close discussing week 10 and the matchups ahead. Please pray for Ferni Willow for some good performance. PRAY, DANGIT!?!? Please? :-)
After a short and frankly disappointing TimBits from Aleks, we wrap up week 8 and look ahead to week 9. Look, some weeks are filled with joyous bits of content, and sometimes its less so. We had fun discussing the mediocrity of Ferni Willow & the seeming new top tier of Phoenix Rises & The Mexikens. At least we mentioned our unofficial sponsor at the end!
What else do I want the audience to know? Well, let me clear my throat. Ahem.
Welcome back to this edition of Power Rankings where we briefly discuss why your team is overrated (I'm talking to you, Josh and Jay). Ok ok...we start by reviewing week 6 results where Chip CRUSHED the predictions by going 6-0. Also, how is Aleks this bad at choosing teams? Just incredible. We touch on week 7 matchups before jumping into the Power Rankings. And yes, Chip was recording from the future. Maybe thats why he's so good at predicting matchups.
