
Tessa recently graduated with a Ph.D. in Health Services Research from the University of Washington. Tessa shared her insights regarding the program and gave some tips for those who are starting their carers in Health Services. We also talked about cannabis, as Dr. Matson conducted her Ph.D. proposal, studying Evaluation of Screening, Assessment, Diagnosis, and Treatment for Cannabis Use Disorder in Primary Care. Tessa is regarded as one of the most productive junior scientists at UW, having published several manuscripts as a lead author. Dr. Matson received the 2022 Gilbert S. Omenn Award for Academic Excellence, the most prestigious, School-wide recognition for graduate students.
Prior to her Ph.D. program, she earned her MPH degree with a concentration in Social and Behavioral Sciences from the University of Washington’s Health Services Department, and her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Whitman College. Dr. Matson worked as a Research Interventionist at Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute and at the VA on a study examining patterns of alcohol use and alcohol treatment among transgender individuals.
