Faceoff 1 Kings 18 Chew the Bible Season 3

In 1 Kings 18, the prophet Elijah confronts King Ahab during a severe drought in Israel. Ahab has been leading the people into idolatry by worshiping Baal. Elijah challenges the prophets of Baal to a contest on Mount Carmel: both sides will prepare a sacrifice, but they must not light the fire. Instead, each will pray to their god, and the true God will answer with fire.

The prophets of Baal cry out all day, cutting themselves and shouting, but nothing happens. Elijah mocks them, saying maybe Baal is asleep. Then Elijah rebuilds the altar of the Lord, drenches the sacrifice with water three times, and prays. Immediately, God sends fire from heaven, burning up the offering, the wood, the stones, and even the water. The people fall on their faces, declaring, “The Lord, He is God!” Elijah orders the prophets of Baal to be seized, and afterward, he prays for rain. The drought finally ends with a mighty downpour, showing God’s power and mercy.

Vanity to Calamity 🪞 1 Kings 16 Chew the Bible Season 3

1 Kings 16 continues the turbulent history of Israel’s kings, highlighting corruption, judgment, and rebellion:

  • Baasha’s Judgment: God sends a message through the prophet Jehu condemning King Baasha for following Jeroboam’s evil ways. Baasha’s dynasty will be wiped out, just like Jeroboam’s.
  • Elah’s Short Reign: Baasha’s son Elah becomes king but reigns only two years. While drunk, he is assassinated by one of his own officials, Zimri, who seizes the throne.
  • Zimri’s Coup and Suicide: Zimri kills Elah and all of Baasha’s family as prophesied. But he rules only seven days. When the army hears he’s king, they make Omri the new king instead. Zimri sets the palace on fire and dies in the flames.
  • Omri vs. Tibni: There’s civil war as people choose between Omri and another man named Tibni. Eventually, Omri wins and becomes king.
  • Omri’s Reign: Omri rules 12 years and is worse than all the kings before him. He builds Samaria as the new capital.
  • Ahab Takes Over: Omri’s son Ahab becomes king next—and he’s even worse than Omri. He marries Jezebel and worships Baal, building altars for him and leading Israel deeper into idolatry.
  • The chapter ends with a curse being fulfilled: Hiel of Bethel rebuilds Jericho and loses two sons, as Joshua once prophesied.

Like Father, Like Son 1 Kings 15 Chew the Bible Season 3

Like Father, Like Son 1 Kings 15 Chew the Bible Season 3

1 Kings 15 recounts the reigns of Abijam (Abijah) and Asa, kings of Judah, and briefly covers the kings of Israel during their times.

  • Abijam ruled Judah for 3 years. He continued in the sins of his father Rehoboam and did not follow God wholeheartedly. But for the sake of David, God allowed Abijam’s line to continue. There was constant war between Judah and Israel during his reign.
  • Asa, Abijam’s son, ruled Judah for 41 years and did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, unlike many kings before him. He removed idols, expelled male shrine prostitutes, and even removed his grandmother Maacah from being queen because she had made an obscene Asherah pole. However, he didn’t remove all the high places.
  • Asa also fought with Baasha, king of Israel. Baasha tried to block Judah, so Asa made an alliance with Ben-Hadad, king of Aram (Syria), by sending him treasures from the temple and palace. Ben-Hadad attacked Israel’s cities, forcing Baasha to retreat.
  • Meanwhile, in Israel, Nadab, the son of Jeroboam, ruled for 2 years but continued in his father’s evil ways. He was assassinated by Baasha, who wiped out Jeroboam’s entire family, just as the Lord had prophesied through Ahijah because of Jeroboam’s sins.

Sick Son & Sodomy 1 Kings 14 Chew the Bible Season 3

Sick Son & Sodomy 1 Kings 14 Chew the Bible Season 3

In 1 Kings 14, Jeroboam’s son, Abijah, becomes very sick. Jeroboam tells his wife to disguise herself and go to the prophet Ahijah in Shiloh, who had once told Jeroboam he’d become king. But Ahijah, now old and blind, is warned by God in advance of her arrival. When she comes, he recognizes her and delivers a devastating prophecy:

• Abijah will die as soon as she returns home.

• He will be the only one in Jeroboam’s family to receive a proper burial, because he’s the only one in whom God saw something good.

• God will wipe out Jeroboam’s lineage for leading Israel into idolatry.

• Israel itself will suffer and be uprooted because of their sins.

Abijah dies just as Ahijah said, and all Israel mourns.

Meanwhile, in Judah, King Rehoboam (Solomon’s son) reigns but also leads the nation into idolatry. Egypt’s king Shishak attacks Jerusalem, stealing treasures from the temple and royal palace. Rehoboam rules for 17 years, but his reign is marked by constant conflict with Jeroboam.

Lion’s Choice 🦁 1 Kings 13 Chew the Bible Season 3

In 1 Kings 13, a prophet from Judah is sent by God to confront King Jeroboam while he’s offering sacrifices at an altar in Bethel—a place of false worship. The prophet declares that a future king named Josiah will destroy that altar. To prove his message is from God, the altar miraculously splits apart and its ashes pour out.

Jeroboam tries to seize the prophet, but his hand withers. The prophet prays, and God restores the king’s hand. Jeroboam invites him to stay and eat, but the prophet refuses, as God commanded him not to eat or drink there.

Later, an old prophet lies and tells the younger one that God said it was now okay to eat. The younger prophet believes him and disobeys God’s original command. As a result, God sends a lion to kill him. Strangely, the lion does not eat him or attack the donkey he rode—showing it was a divine act of judgment. The old prophet then mourns him, buries him, and asks to be buried beside him, recognizing his words were true.

Chew the Bible
North vs. South 1 Kings 12 Chew the Bible Season 3

North vs. South 1 Kings 12 Chew the Bible Season 3

After Solomon dies, his son Rehoboam becomes king. The people of Israel, led by Jeroboam, ask Rehoboam to lighten the heavy burden his father placed on them. Rehoboam consults two groups for advice:

  • The elders say, “Be kind and serve the people—they will be loyal.”
  • His young friends say, “Be tougher than your dad!”

Rehoboam follows the bad advice, saying he’ll be harsher than Solomon. The people rebel, and ten tribes break away, crowning Jeroboam as king of Israel (the north). Only Judah stays loyal to Rehoboam in the south.

Jeroboam, afraid people will return to Rehoboam if they worship in Jerusalem, makes two golden calves and sets up false worship in Bethel and Dan. This becomes a major sin for Israel.

Solomon’s Slidepieces 🛝👸🏽 1 Kings 11 Chew the Bible Season 3

In 1 Kings 11, King Solomon’s heart turns away from God. Even though he was wise, he loved many foreign women—700 wives and 300 concubines—including Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians, and Hittites. God had warned Israel not to marry foreign women because they might lead them to worship other gods—and that’s exactly what happened.

Solomon built altars and temples for pagan gods like Ashtoreth, Molech, and Chemosh, to please his wives. This deeply angered the Lord, who had appeared to Solomon twice and specifically commanded him not to follow other gods.

As a result, God declared that the kingdom would be torn away from Solomon’s dynasty after his death, though not completely. For the sake of David, God would leave one tribe under Solomon’s son’s rule.

Then adversaries began to rise against Solomon: Hadad the Edomite, Rezon of Damascus, and Jeroboam, a servant of Solomon who would eventually rule over the northern tribes.

Solomon reigned 40 years in Jerusalem, and when he died, his son Rehoboam succeeded him.

Queen Sheba 👸🏽 1 Kings 10 Chew the Bible Season 3

In 1 Kings 10, the Queen of Sheba visits King Solomon after hearing about his great wisdom and wealth. She arrives in Jerusalem with a grand entourage, bringing spices, gold, and precious stones. She tests Solomon with hard questions, and he answers them all with ease, impressing her deeply.

She is amazed not only by his wisdom, but by the grandeur of his palace, the food on his table, the servants, and the burnt offerings he made at the Temple. She praises God for blessing Solomon and making him king to uphold justice and righteousness.

The chapter also describes Solomon’s immense wealth — ships bring in gold, silver, ivory, apes, and peacocks. He builds a grand throne of ivory overlaid with gold, and silver becomes so common in Jerusalem, it was considered of little value.

Solomon’s splendor attracts visitors from all over the earth. His fame and fortune are unmatched, and his wisdom draws kings and queens from distant lands.

Solomon's Navy ⚓️ 1 Kings 9 Chew the Bible Season 3

Solomon's Navy ⚓️ 1 Kings 9 Chew the Bible Season 3

Summary of 1 Kings 9

After Solomon finished building the Temple and his royal palace, God appeared to him a second time. The Lord reminded Solomon that He had heard his prayer and chosen the Temple as a sacred place. God promised to bless Solomon’s reign and keep his royal line going if Solomon remained faithful like his father David.

However, God also gave a warning: if Solomon or his descendants turned away from Him and worshiped other gods, Israel would be cut off from the land, and the Temple would become a ruin and a shame among the nations.

The chapter then describes Solomon’s dealings with King Hiram of Tyre, who helped supply materials for the building projects. Solomon gave Hiram 20 cities in Galilee, but Hiram was disappointed with them and called them “Cabul,” meaning “worthless.”

Solomon also used forced labor for his building projects and expanded his kingdom’s infrastructure, including cities, storage areas, and military outposts.

Hey Arnold Judges 18 Chew the Bible Season 3

Summary of Judges 18:
In Judges 18, the tribe of Dan is still seeking a homeland. They send five spies who find the peaceful city of Laish. On the way, they discover a man named Micah who has a shrine, an idol, and a Levite priest. The Danites later return with 600 men, steal Micah’s idols, and convince the priest to come with them. They attack Laish, burn it, and rebuild it as "Dan." They set up the idol, and Jonathan, a descendant of Moses, becomes their priest. This chapter highlights Israel's moral confusion during the time when "everyone did what was right in his own eyes."Your words were found and I ate them 😋; Your words became a joy 😊 to me; the delight of my heart ❤️Jeremiah 15:16Originally inspired by J. Klepto Micah Judges 17 Chew the Bible Season 3

Summary of Judges 17Judges 17 tells the story of a man named Micah, from the hill country of Ephraim. Micah steals 1,100 shekels of silver from his mother, but after being cursed by her, he returns the money. His mother then uses some of the silver to make an idol, which she gives to Micah. Micah sets up a shrine in his home, complete with an ephod (a priestly garment) and household gods. He even hires a Levite priest to serve in his shrine, hoping this will bring blessings to his household. This chapter highlights the spiritual decline and idolatry that was rampant during the time of the Judges, when "everyone did what was right in his own eyes." It introduces the theme of misguided worship, where people mixed true faith with personal preference and created their own forms of religion.

Summary of Judges 16 (Samson and Delilah)

Judges 16 tells the story of Samson, a man blessed with supernatural strength by God, and his downfall through betrayal. Samson falls in love with Delilah, who is bribed by the Philistine rulers to uncover the secret of his strength. After several failed attempts, Samson finally reveals that his strength lies in his uncut hair—a symbol of his vow to God.

Delilah cuts his hair while he sleeps, and the Philistines capture him, gouge out his eyes, and imprison him. While in prison, Samson’s hair begins to grow back. During a Philistine celebration in their temple, they bring him out to mock him. Samson prays to God for strength one last time. He pushes down the temple pillars, killing himself and thousands of Philistines—defeating his enemies in death.Your words were found and I ate them 😋; Your words became a joy 😊 to me; the delight of my heart ❤️Jeremiah 15:16Originally inspired by J.
