Sometimes there are people in our lives who we will never forget because they CHANGE us. If you’re an educator or someone whose work directly services others, you know this better than most. On today’s episode, I’m sharing how my experience with one outstanding student had a profound impact on my style as a leader then and continues to influence me in the present. I’ll also be covering the importance of understanding the depth of your impact as a leader. As a company or school leader, you’ve got to make big decisions; often with those big decisions comes big responsibility. We’ll be talking all about how to make decisions that honor your quest for inclusivity and push back on the status quo that tells you you’ve got to maintain control and dominate every situation.
Here are 3 key takeaways you won't want to miss:
🔑Step back and determine: What is working and what isn’t? When it comes to being a leader, checking in with yourself and your initiatives, goals, and progress (or lack thereof) is integral to your progress and growth. If you’re feeling a little stuck and ineffective, take stock of what you’re doing that is working WELL and what isn’t. Make changes from there!
🔑Identify where you are NOT practicing intentional inclusivity and change it. This is a big one, and it requires a big amount of work. If you’re not sure where to begin when it comes to identifying where you’re not being intentional with your inclusivity take a look at national statistics and identify where women and people of color are most excluded, marginalized, and straight-up silenced. Then, be intentional about fighting back against that.
🔑Let go of practices and habits that don’t serve your mission, vision, or values. Are you struggling to identify exactly WHAT is holding you back from being your very best? Be intentional about your intentionality. That’s right people, journal, reflect, make time where it needs to be made, and understand that the work you do is IMPORTANT.
